Food Lion — Local services in Southern Shores

I'm at the checkout line at Food Lion Southern Shores, the young kid in front of me works for Food Lion (he was in work clothes and name tag Cameron) and was buying something as well noticed the old Navy ball cap that I was wearing and asked me if I had been in the Navy. I said yes and he smiled broadly and told me that his grandfather had also been in the Navy. "What did he do?" I asked. He proudly answered that his grandpa had been a pilot. I told him that the next time that he saw his grandpa, to give him a big hug and thank him for his service. He smiled broadly once again and said that he would, and started to walk away. He suddenly turned around, thanked me for my service and asked if he could pay for my groceries. I was touched. This minimum wage earner, a grocery stock boy, probably 18 or 19, wanted to pay for my groceries. I thanked him profusely, and declined, and he thanked me again and walked away. The biggest gift that this kid gave me was to rekindle in my soul the faith in people, good people, who make up most of our neighbors and strangers whom we cross paths all over, and in supermarket lines. I don’t think I ever thought I’d feel so called to leave a review of a grocery store. I stopped in this morning on my day off to see if I could swap something out from an Instacart order a couple of days ago not expecting much, wasn’t even sure if they’d let me swap it. Well to start every single employee I interacted with was so kind and helpful. Shout out to the ladies at the customer service counter and the funny girl behind the deli counter, but especially to William who I assume is the store manager. He overheard me explaining what was going on and went out of his way to correct my situation, and did so much more for me than I would have expected. Again, I’ve never felt called to leave a review just for my local grocery store, but everyone that helped me was great and went above and beyond. Probably top 3 customer experiences of all time for me. I go here regularly anyways, but I feel even better about it now knowing who my business supports. And shout out to the girl who complimented my hat otw out too....

Just had to put my 2 cents in and say this Food Lion is the best one I have shopped in in years. The store is always clean and the employees are always very nice, helpful and ready to do whatever you ask or need. I have had many interactions with the employees and always had a terrific experience. When I have trouble finding something , there is always someone ready willing and able to help me locate whatever it is in a hurry. I have also had the pleasant experience of having employees help with outside tasks such as propane exchange and curb side pick-up and not only are they prompt and polite but always ready to help. I do not work there, or have any relatives there or any connection to this Food Lion. I just wanted to spread the word that these people are stellar and I appreciate them...
