TLDR: DO NOT TRUST THE WEBSITE. As I'm writing this, my wife who booked the room is showing me pics from the website, and they are not even remotely related to reality. This is a dingy cheap hotel and the website lies between misleading and bold-faced lies.
This place has no redeeming qualities other than an okay location. If you sleep through slamming doors and neighbor noise, and plan to be awake by 8am with construction then fine, but otherwise this is not the hotel for you. If you expect a comfortable bed and a decent shower/bathroom as basics for your $450 a night, then Laguna Cove Hotel will be a huge disappointment.
This hotel is really poor. We are actually here right now. Paying about $950 for two weekday, non-holiday nights because we felt like taking a little drive. For that price I'd expect at least a comfortable bed. Unfortunately that isn't the case. The cheap bed and linens is a disappointment, but it's super odd that other than the bed there are only two bar stools to sit in the entire room. There isn't even a table other than a little round bar table type of thing that maybe a laptop could fit on, but no chairs. Pics online show basics like a table, chairs, and a desk, but know that is not the case. Not a single chair in the place. I'm sitting here looking around right now, and the room is basically empty. It's really weird (see pics).
Worse yet is the bathroom. All I could think when I first saw this super-old and ratty bathroom was, "this needs to be gutted." A decent shower an adult can fit comfortably in (I'm under 180 lbs so it's not an issue of my size) and some counter space is all I'd like. For $400+ a night those things shouldn't even be in question.
At 9:45 am this morning I went to the lobby area where they have coffee and light breakfast. I was curious because the website listed a continental breakfast and "custom pastries." It turns out that means those cheap little mini powdered donuts that you can find at any gas station. There were also bananas and a yogurt brand with tons of added sugar. So, the only adult option was a banana. No juice, bagels or bread to toast up, and not even cereal. Truly pathetic.
Truth be told I would have been asleep at that point if I were at home. The "ocean view" king room we are in is actually a construction-view. So, after being kept up by slamming doors (I don't think the neighbors were intentionally being rude, this is just a run-down and poorly kept hotel), I was shocked awake by construction promptly at 8am. I'm not sure how well i could have slept in anyway since another lie by the hotel is that they have blackout curtains. In the pictures I'm posting the curtains are fully shut, and there are no other lights on in the room. The blackout curtains are another complete lie by Laguna Cove Hotel.
Also, I have a king bed at home and this is not one. I wouldn't even care that it's not a full king when advertized as one, but its a really cheap and uncomfortable matress, so we both woke up with a sore back which never happens even when i fall asleep on my own couch.
I am posting some pics including of the sink which, by the way is right by the window next to the shared outside hallway to get to the rooms. So, when you're in the bathroom using the toilet or shower, rather than the ocean view window shown on the website bathroom pics, you have a window that strangers are walking past constantly, which faces the parking lot and street. Even with it closed you see their figures walking by and hear their chatting literally three feet from your toilet. It's uncomfortable if you like privacy while using the bathroom, so it's uncomfortable for literally everyone.
Compare the "ocean view" pictures from the website to this one from reality. I'll show the pathetic barren room as well if I can (rember "blackout shades" are a lie). Please compare to the website and book somewhere else for your own sake.
I know companies lie and that's just how it is, but this place is probably the most misleading and dishonest hotel I've...
Read moreWhat a gem! Laguna Cove Hotel is hands down the best spot I’ve stayed at in Laguna Beach. We stayed in an Ocean View suite, and the view was just unreal – waking up to the sound of the ocean every day was like a dream. Each room has its own cool vibe, and the whole place feels super cozy. The staff was super friendly and made us feel right at home. I’ll definitely be back!
The Ocean View suite we stayed in had an amazing view of the Pacific – I can’t imagine a better spot to unwind. Each room has its own personality, making it feel like you’re staying in a unique, coastal retreat. The hotel is quiet and intimate, and the staff made us feel so welcome. If you’re looking for a relaxed, charming getaway in Laguna Beach, this is the...
Read moreThis hotel was a let down for me, the pictures on its website seem to convey a warm, cozy hotel. While well situated in Laguna Beach with walkable distance to "downtown" and some beaches and free onsite parking, the hotel and the room in particular that was assigned to us (queen room with partial ocean view), is so much in need of an update. There was nothing that would add a bit of comfort to a one-night stay (not the old bathroom, bed linen, room decoration or arrangement, or climate control). The room overall is old and tired looking with stale air even facing the ocean. It was a disappointment even for just one night. And this is unfortunate because with some update and efforts, it could be...
