Horrible. I have worked in hotels for 15 years and never once encountered such treatment, even worse to find out that the GM Michael Curd was the man whom we had encountered. Typically my husband and I stay at Hilton property’s because one our discount, & number two we have never had any issues. I have a heart condition call ASD in which I just had a surgery a couple days ago and after I finally got released from the hospital we wanted to find a hotel near my Cardiologist because we had follow up appointments for the next couple days and we live in another county. We decide upon the Double Tree, I’ve stayed there before with family and during my last surgery so going back seemed the right fit. We had not booked the room yet because we had just left the hospital and after getting to the car realized I was not ready to take a long trip. We pull into the Double Tree parking lot and as my husband and I were pulling up the website to check availability on the discount this man starts walking towards my car mouthing “ You need to leave” and gesturing with his hands very aggressively. I’m clearly confused by this so I open my door maybe I didn’t understand him? He then says out loud very very aggressive at this point “You need to leave NOW!” I look to my husband completely baffled and all I could get out was “Why?” He says are you a guest here (I wasn’t I was just starting to book the reservation) I say no then he gets very hostile and starts saying it all over again. My husband says just go clearly something is wrong with this man. So we go and find another location. However I’m so shaken by this mans treatment of us, I’m questioning myself I mean I wasn’t really cleaned up I just got out of the hospital maybe had I done my hair or fixed my makeup? Maybe it was my car because it is an older car, kind of my back up car due to my BMW getting bad gas in the lines I’m driving this one temporarily. My point is I started to feel this man purposely profiled us, he had no reason to treat someone in that manner. NONE. I should not have to feel like I did anything wrong because we absolutely did not. He did not know if I was already a guest or checking in as he approached my car the way he did. He didn’t even ask until the very end of the encounter. In all the time I’ve worked at hotels that’s never how I’ve seen anyone approach a situation, he could’ve asked simply hey can I help you? Or I noticed you parked back here may I ask what you are doing? Anything other than the highly unprofessional attitude he gave us. I did some digging and asked some questions not only to find out who this man was but this man in fact is the General Manager. I’m disgusted. Luckily my husband caught most of the incident on camera, thank god for camera phones, and I’ve been making this as public as I possibly can and reached out to their corporate offices. No one should ever be made to feel the way this man made us feel. This man needs some form of guest service retraining because his skill set is lacking and not up to par with Hilton standards or just being a morally decent person for...
Read moreMy fiance and I stayed here for the bridal expo that has just passed. The hotel looked good and the room looked good. However, that is where the good stops.
The room had signs of uncleanliness and wear; the latch on the balcony door was falling off, the AC/heater had a mangled cover, the lights next to the mirror in the bathroom were covered in water spots and dust and were falling apart, hair dryer was dirty and didn't work well, the handle to control the water and temperature was loose and falling off and had 90-150 degrees of free travel before it actually did anything, and the tub had yellowing caulk. The tub was very had to get into, and I'm only 21 and 5'11". I was doing knee hugs to get in an some ballet/gymnastics move to get out.
We visited the bar where we were greeted by an awkward bartender. I asked him what Bourbons they had and he just gave us 1 menu of all the Bourbons and drinks they make. Not an issue to share, but it was from a stack of at least 10. The bartender hovered as we read the menu over and made us feel uncomfortable. We took our drinks to the room and I noticed my glass was dirty with spots and a sticky residue. It seemed like it was only on the outside, so I drank it anyway. The bar keeps drinks in coolers at floor level, forcing you to be look down behind the bar. Also most the displayed drinks seemed to be well quality and not display quality. Pricing was average though.
The next morning, we went to the breakfast buffet. We were greeted nicely and dished our food. As we sat down I grabbed my mug and went to get coffee. The lady stopped me as I was, unknowingly, headed for the decalf coffee. She proceeded to lead me around the restaurant like a stray dog to only return me back to my table and pour my coffee. It would have been nice if she said that she would bring it to the table. She also tried to take my fiance's food after she clearly said she was not done yet. The food was like any other hotel buffet, thin bacon, boiled sausage links, runny undercooked eggs, okay sausage gravy, and the baked goods were stale. As we finished, we were told it was to be charged to the room, but they had difficulty and we had to pay there. $30 for two people at a hotel buffet of subpar food. Nowhere in our room did it say the breakfast was not included, simply just times of availability and room service fees.
Overall, this hotel is just an average hotel comparable to any one night stay type hotels with pricing and style of a suite. Definitely not worth the price we paid for the breakfast buffet to not be included, barware to be dirty, TV's to only have one channel no local news and weather channels, and for the room to have the issues it did. Honestly, the looks and cookies are about the best this place offers. It is worth noting that both the server and bartender were not native English speakers, so it could explain the experience. But, the hotel seemed to have hidden fees and left us feeling like we were taken advantage of for what we paid and wondering where our money was really going....
Read moreThis hotel had always stuck out to me as being one of my favorites. Wife and I left our home in Michigan on August 16th. We stayed at Courtyard by Marriott in Beachwood, OH for 2 nights. Then, Doubletree by Hilton in Front Royal, VA for a night, Fox Hill B&B for 2 nights, The Bent Mountail Lodge in VA for a night, The Switerland Inn Resort in North Carolina for 3 nights, then a mountain cabin in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee for 7 nights. Rather than drive 9+ hours home, we decided to stay here, having stayed here in 2017. I must say, exteemely disappointed. The beautiful fountain and large area for reading, eating, or just chatting while enjoying the sound and fresh smell of the fountain water - gone. Entire area is under renovation. As a Hilton Honors member who loves the Doubletrees, this is definitely the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The elevator has a pungent stink to it, the concourse is filled with the noise of saws and the smell of plaster and sawdust, and the outside smells like a sewer. We have to walk under a construction crew patching and hanging molding just to leave through the front door to go to our vehicle. Possibly a safety concern there. Mind you, we just travelled the entire length of Skyline Drive and The Blue Ridge Parkway on our way to our cabin in Tennessee. 2 hotels, 2 B&B's, and our cabin. Every place we stayed had comparable nightly rates to this hotel, which cost $265, and all had amenities that far exceed this one's. Place should be closed during these renovations. Hotel made NO mention they were under renovation when I booked the room a few days ago. If they had, I would've booked a different Doubletree hotel, even if I would've had to drive a little longer today or tomorrow - or, I would've just driven the entire way home today. Very bad form, Hilton! The main appeal of this particular hotel for me was the fountain and concourse area. Now, we are relegated to hiding in our room for the next 17 hours. Hopefully, the beds and bedding are the same as what other Doubltrees have - we like it so much we actually bought the same pillows, pillow protectors, and comforter. If not, we will not be staying here ever again on our way home from our annual vacations to The Smokies. And that's certainly not to say we will, even if they are the same, based on this dreadful experience. At least this is only for one night. Still, definitely NOT how I was looking to end a...
