Marty Rae's of Lexington — Hotel in Lexington

About a year and a half ago, we began a “refresh” type renovation on our Lexington home; we did not have an easy time of it. Being owners of a local small business, we were sure that patronizing other small local businesses was the way to go...we were wrong. After finding out the hard way that many people simply don’t value their reputation, we attempted Lowe’s Home store in Lexington... wrong again! Thousands of dollars and over a year later, we are still trying to get our projects completed. Of course one of these projects is replacing our home’s furniture, and it seems like that would be easy...WRONG AGAIN! Being brought up in a time where hard work and integrity meant something, we were shocked at all we’d experienced. By the time I stopped in to Marty Rae’s on a whim one day, my confidence in people, quality, (even my own ability to choose) had been greatly damaged. WHAT A REFRESHINGLY GOOD EXPERIENCE FROM DAY ONE! My sakes person, Deb Mcaferty, was eager and patient and so very accommodating! Even the other sales people treated me with kindness and respect and a warmth that made me feel like they were all old friends. The owner (who was very busy) even took the time to stop and speak to me personally about some of the store’s history and his family...he even let me vent about some of my awful experiences with my renovation projects! I went from being afraid to choose “chicken or beef,” at dinner to a much more secure home furnishing shopper within the 4 days from purchase to delivery. The men in the warehouse and delivery were just as helpful, courteous and professional as the sales people and owner! I moved from Potomac, MD to Blythewood, SC 16 years ago and met Dale Maxwell while looking for home furnishings at Marty Rae’s. I liked her from the very beginning because of her warm personality and had her come to my house to do an assessment of what I needed to have a beautiful home. She was thorough, relaxed, friendly and professional in her review of my home. What I liked most about Dale was that she made suggestions for my consideration and involved me in the process. I ended up buying everything that Dale suggested, including magnificent furniture, chandeliers, lamps, marble etagere, coffee table and handmade floral arrangements, and I have not changed or moved around one thing since she planned it. My family and other visitors marvel at the beauty of it all. Since then, I introduced Dale to a relative, Larry Brown, ex-NFL great running back with the former Washington Redskins, for a home consultation. She did a super outstanding job in re-decorating his home just as she did for me. Most recently, my son Kevin engaged Dale for home furnishings and, as usual, she did an outstanding job. We recently shopped at Marty Rae’s for new sofas. I was searching high and low for a Chesterfield style sofa. The big box furniture stores didn’t even know what one was. Another local store in Augusta was only interested in showing me pictures from a catalog. So by the time we got to Marty Rae’s I was frustrated with lack of knowledge and service.

We walked in and were quickly greeted by Dale. We talked about what we were looking for and she was able to show us sofas and discuss in depth about the construction and the features. It was apparent from the beginning that she is a a professional who is every knowledgeable about her industry.

She guided us through the entire process and took the time to discuss the pros and cons of different upholstery options, color choices, etc. It was a great relief to finally find someplace that provided knowledgeable customer service.

While we were wrapping up our order, we also got to meet the owner, George, and was able to learn a bit about the business’ origin and his family. It was nice to know that we were able to make a purchase from a family company instead of some faceless corporation.
