Great stay overall that this Holiday Inn Express on our way back from Chico. Very easy on/off the freeway - very near Starbucks and many other restaurants, Target, etc for easy walking.
Hotel lobby was very nice and staff was great. I was traveling with my 2 teenage boys, so stayed in a 2 queen + sofa bed at end of hallway, The sofa-bed area is a little area by itself which my younger son really liked. The sofa bed was comfy as were the queens. However, the extra sheets for the sofa bed were sort of wadded up in the closet. I'm used to having a plastic zippered bag at other IHG properties with the sheets etc nicely folded. There was no comforter, but only a small blanket which didn't cover the width of the sofa bed. The sheets were fine though and my son is usually warm, so we didn't worry about it at the time. We should have asked for a comforter... Also, I also prefer when the sofa beds are already made up. At other brand hotels this is always the case, but IHG hotels, the sofa beds are often not made.
The HVAC was old and we made the mistake of turning down the temperature (the room was set to 75 but comfortable when we came in). I didn't want the heater to kick on so turned to 72, but then the AC ended up running during the night and the room was an ice box at 4:00AM waking up my son on the soft bed as the air was blowing on him. I then turned on the heater and got that burning smell of dust as the heater likely hadn't been used all summer (we stayed in November).
Overall, the room just feels dated. The microwave is an older model with the turn wheel to set the amount of time and "dings" when done. The refrig was fine, but the cabinet both were in looked pretty old. Nice flat TV and modern work chair but desk and couch table are dated. Breakfast area is similarly dated. Area is clean and very usable but tables and chairs have seen better days.
Staff was super friendly and attentive. At other IHG properties, there are sometimes cookies or mints out in the evening or water in a dispenser. We arrived around 7:30PM on a Saturday and nothing was out. I don't think this is part of their practice.
Breakfast was the standard Holiday Inn Express Breakfast served warm and tasty. I would like to see them add brown sugar for the oatmeal and move from styrofoam plates to paper plates and bowls or offer paper as an option.
Definitely would stay again if...
Read moreOut of the 3 Holiday Inn Expresses in the Roseville / Rocklin / Lincoln area, this is the best one. It's unusual to have so many of the same brand hotel so close together, but I guess there is demand in the area. This location has great freeway access, get off and turn right into the driveway!
I stayed here in Lincoln with a friend visiting from San Diego, and I have to say this is one of the best Holiday Inn Expresses I've stayed. The staff was really friendly and accommodating, allowing us an early check in and late check out. This is a pretty new area, so it's new construction all around, including an In N Out right here in the same parking lot, how easy is that! The pool is an indoor one as is the hot spa. The rooms we had was a king suite with an expanded area for the work desk. The wi fi worked well and was fast enough to stream movies in HD online. Big advantage at this hotel: a quiet air conditioner! Most all Holiday Inn Expresses have this built into the wall AC/Heat unit, that makes a ton of noise. This one you just set the thermostat and the unit keeps the place cool or heated with hardly any noise. The room was perfectly clean and the bathroom was clean as well. I liked this exec suite!
The free included breakfast is really good and is way better than some of those "continental" breakfast consisting of stale donuts and weak coffee. This was real hot breakfast including pancakes, omelettes, biscuits and gravy and even turkey and pork sausage patties. Lots of breads for toast and cereal and milk for the less adventurous. I have to mention, and compliments to the kitchen staff, especially the Eastern European lady, who had the insight to slice all the English Muffins and Bagels to make it way easier to eat. Who wants to get stuck trying to slice a English muffin with a plastic knife? The hot coffee is out 24/7 so you always have a pick me up anytime you want when you stay here. I'd love to stay here again! I hope this review was helpful in your decision to stay...
