Rough Trade Leather & Gear aka Rough Trade/RT is an adult and clothing store located in the hear of Silver Lake.
They have a great selection of street wear, fetish gear and leather including neoprene as well as some more PVC, polyvinyl and polyurethane editions, which I'm obsessed with as a vegan leather bear.
It's a two store wonder with a rag tag crew of people who make this place feel like more than an awesome shop. Adrian, Cristina, Greg (here for cameos and kindness), Jessica, Merlyn, Nabor, and Sera (on top - level 2) are the Avengers of Rough Trade Gear. Not only do the run an amazing Latinx owned shop that caters to the LGBTQ+ community, but the host events, support and advocate for others from individuals to association/clubs, bar and fellow small businesses.
Discover fun tee's, tanks, singlets, shorts, pants, coveralls, overalls, union suits, vest, hats, caps and more. An abundance of adult toys, accessories, magazines, plus more.
They're very knowledgeable, considerate and open all seven days of the week as early as Noon.
Parking available in their lot, local street and/or access to public transit via LA Metro in a very walkable neighborhood.
For custom orders/work you can make appointments over the phone as well as inquire about inventory.
The online shop is amazing and they do offer shipping discounts, but nothing beats the real deal feel and top notch customer service experience.
Stop in and support this local small owned staple in LA and SoCal [check out their Coachella Valley/Palm Springs location and DTLA cousin store...
Read moreI hate to give this firm one star as /some/ of the folks there appear to be trying really hard (and the person who handled me was really nice) but I had a very negative experience. I hope Rough Trade Gear's owners read this as I would like to shop here again with better results.
Jessica-- the manager-- needs to actually make sure her goods ship, that they arrive less than a month late, that she has goods to ship and/or that customers are notified that certain items are out of stock and will/will not be reordered. If an item is permanently out of stock or will not be reordered soon, the customer needs to be contacted with the details of the delay/cancellation and allowed to choose whether to wait or accept a refund from there. They should not have to call multiple times for minimal information and a refund offer. From what I gathered from my calls, the online orders staff has almost no power to ensure customers receive their products. That power lies with the manager, who seems to care less about completing her transactions.
The other staff are very polite and prompt but if the manager cannot muster a single response to a very polite, understanding inquiry over a severely late order, then you have problems.
I imagine RTG is great in person but don't buy anything you can't walk out of...
Read moreYears and years and years of support, patronage and recommendations along with half a closet and beurau of pieces I used to be so proud of now feel like everything I never wanted. Customer service, on a time sensitive piece that was repeatedly discussed and promised, had infinite opportunities to do right but decided treating me like a non socal no one that they couldn't be bothered with. Day after day it could have been rectified but I was of no importance , concern or curiosity. So I have tons of gear from rough trade and have been treated like a fangirl more than a supportive customer. It wasn't just a mistake or error but a purposeful several day run around to make me feel foolish. It's such a disappointment. That kind of customer service is never acceptable and to long time patrons should at least be made right. Losing my favorite fetish store is sad but seeing the alternative kids move to the cool kids table is gross. Don't forget to wear pink on Wednesdays. You're...
