Dinner tonight was my first time visiting here and I regret that I have not been here sooner. I had a really nice experience and aside from a few hiccups it was a really good dinner with a great vibe. Just to start I really like the design, almost an outdoor inside type of feeling. I especially like the lighting since it’s very low and resembles candlelight. The live jazz was perhaps the true icing on the cake in terms of what made it an enjoyable setting. The music was not too loud that we could not hear each other talking but loud enough that it drowned out the tables around us.
I will admit service was pretty slow at the beginning and we had to wait awhile to get our check after we finished but I don’t blame the server at all she was very polite and everyone we saw was working hard I just think they were short staffed tonight. I started off with the beet salad with blue cheese and it was very tasty. Very light and refreshing and was a great start. For my entree I chose the Dover Sole and it was delicious; I finished every bit of it.
Overall I would recommend to anyone, especially if you’re a fan of bistro style French cuisine. I would say it’s a casual setting so it would be ideal for a date or a dinner with friends. Parking can be a pain in the area however they do provide valet. It is a bit more expensive than some other bistros but they do have large portion sizes and...
Read moreThis review is strictly for the speakeasy-like bar in the bar of Cafe Stella. Dimly lit and upbeat, I stepped into a room full of wonder and excitement. I was digging the music they were playing, which seemed to be straight from my Pandora playlist (hint: Bonodo station all the way). There's even a DJ booth area for when the place wants to get extra hype, I guess.
It was my first time at this establishment last night. I was there for a friend's birthday celebration and features your typical 'first come, first serve' seating area.
Because my friend doesn't drink alcohol, we asked Jesse, one of the bartenders (he wears black eyeglasses) to make a nice non-alcoholic drink. What he ended up making my friend blew all of our minds away. I come to find out that it's their cocktail Sea Archer without the alcohol. It was AMAZING and I highly recommend it virgin or with booze. Extremely refreshing with a hint of ginger taste to it.
The one thing I wouldn't necessarily order is their old fashioned. They do not do it well. The balance is extremely off and it's way too strong. I'd rather take my whiskey neat than to have it mixed w/whatever they put in their old fashions. It literally tasted like gasoline was in my...
Read moreNice warm ambiance but to me, the food is everything. We had a reservation for 4 and they were able to accommodate 6 of us that showed up. We had a cocktail in the patio while we all arrived. The menu looked pretty classic and i love it when chefs make classics perfect instead of trying too hard to innovate and ruining the original meals. This happens a lot in LA. To me, everything was perfect. At the table we ordered oysters that were nice and fresh and champagne. Perfect pairing! Nice champagne! Then ordered the frittes with filet mignon. I've ordered this dish in other French and Belgian restaurants and this one is the best. Perfect fries, perfect filet mignon with herb butter. The butter and baguette were so great, I'm still licking myself thinking about it. Perfect creme brulee, and these other puffs with cream and ganache. I gotta come back cause that is all i could fit in. Super recommended. The only negative thing about this place is that there are no options on the menu for vegans. There's like a side plate of grilled vegetables, and that's no fun as an entree. I have many vegan friends and I'm sad that i can't bring them. But lucky for me, I'm not vegan so I'll be...
