This hotel is a really excellent option for a longer stay, and the reason I'm only giving it four stars is because of Hilton's design choices for the suites.
The staff was friendly and accommodating. Special shout out to Emma, the manager who checked us in. Our first room didn't have an AC that was working and she immediately moved us into another room, which was perfect.
There's a small pool with a max depth of about 4 feet and an accessibility chair, which is the first time I've ever seen a hotel make that accommodation. (Actually, the whole design of the public spaces was perfect -- wide pathways for folks who use wheelchairs, lots of spaces to sit for breakfast. Very attuned to people who need accommodations -- downstairs, at least). There's also a small gym, a pool table, and an outdoor space with some grills.
The room itself was nice. The sofa was comfortable and so was the bed. The fridge was full size with a functional ice maker. Our room came equipped with pots, pans, plates and silverware as well as dishwashing detergent. It had a dishwasher that we ran once and that I believe you could hear from space; I don't know how our neighbors didn't complain. Lol. The stove top was an electric with two burners, and there was a microwave.
The TV let us log into our own YouTube account, which was nice. There's so many spaces to plug in chargers, too -- both with traditional plugs and with USBs. The window has two shades: one for privacy and one that blacked out the light, so that was a nice option.
There were plenty of shelves and drawers for clothes so you didn't have to live out of your suitcase, too.
The bathroom (shower and toilet) was a little tight for the placement of the door, but not unmanageable. There was a shower stall with shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel on the wall, which is environmentally smart. Same thing with the sink, which was outside of the toilet/shower room -- they had soap and lotion dispensers attached to the wall. There was also a full-size closet.
The only drawback to this room has to do with the placement of the opening for the area with the sink, which faces the bed and not the sofa. There's no door between the sink space and the bed. So if I got up in the middle of the night, I either had to stumble in the dark into the bathroom or risk turning on THE BRIGHTEST light in the entire room and just hope my husband didn't wake up. There's also no fan in the bathroom so there was no way for the steam from the shower to dissipate until you opened the bathroom door. It's a little awkward when you're only sharing with a spouse; I can't imagine what it's like if your kid is sleeping on the pull-out sofa. It could also be fixed pretty easily with the addition of a wall slide door or even a privacy screen.
Would still recommend the stay, but just keep the bathroom thing in mind if you're traveling with...
Read moreI don't generally write reviews about hotels unless something is very good or not good, but I'm hoping this will help you make an informed decision. First the good: The staff was fabulously friendly and helpful. The room was well appointed, clean, had a nice little kitchenette, and was spacious. I was on the 7th floor in room 723. The elevators both worked the whole week I was there and were exceptionally speedy. Pickup area for Uber, etc. is safe and convenient. The location is good if you need to be downtown to attend a Cardinal's game, etc. The not so good: Parking is horrible! You have to park in a parking deck that is poorly lit and has a filthy elevator. You carry your luggage from the car (almost always parked on the 3rd or higher level because the first several levels are reserved) to the elevator, through the flow of garage traffic, over two curbs, through a rock area of about six feet, to the sidewalk that takes you to the hotel. This is not for anyone that is disabled or wishing not to get wet in the rain. And for this you pay $25 a night. A downtown hotel should have valet for that price given that parking garage situation. Rooms: There is one row on each floor with a decent view (of the main road and it's buildings). This faces the front of the hotel. The rest of the rooms look out over some pretty nasty rooftops. The room I was in, was very quiet being at the end of the hall (a plus for me). The room A/C will not turn off. You can set it to off, but it doesn't stop so by mid afternoon it's freezing in the room. Downtown is considered a "food desert" by the locals and they are correct. There are no food markets, drug stores, or budget restaurants close by the hotel. Expect to pay $18 for a hamburger, $20 for a taco salad, etc. at a few places within walking distance. Finally, it is a pet friendly hotel and the staff is very kind about pets. I do not regret taking my small dog but I mention it because there is no grass for potty duty unless you walk several blocks to a municipal park. There are a few wood chip or rock areas (approx 3-4 feet) that surround some of the trees that are installed in the sidewalks, but that's all. The frontage road is very busy, hold tight to your pooch. A little dog did fine but I wouldn't want to try it with a large dog (hope that helps). Final note...stop at the front of the hotel to check in before going to the parking garage!! They need to give you a pass to use the garage. This should honestly be sent in an email prior to...
Read moreThis is our first time staying here and I absolutely adored it! We had a full size refrigerator, stove, microwave, place settings, silverware, blow dryer, iron & board, etc...basically everything that you need for a comfortable stay. Bed and pillows were nice.Loved having full blinds for the windows. Nice comfy couch, work desk and plenty of lighting and outlets. Large shower and the room was super clean. Even having the option to choose whether we want our room serviced everyday was nice because we usually don't need it, aside from getting extra towels or garbage being emptied.
The staff were absolutely fabulous and always so cordial. They purposefully greeted us with a smile when we came in and when we left every day (so sweet). And there was always a beautiful floral scent in the lobby! They had a good snack selection in the lobby for purchase.
Hotel was located around a lot of restaurants and museums in walking distance. The only bad thing is there's very little space to park to unload your luggage in the front. There's only enough room for like three cars max at a time. Parking garages is right next door - not too much of a walk at all. Nice being able to let yourself in and out of the parking garage with a QR barcode on your phone.
Niice fitness center and pool table in the lobby! The breakfast was o.k. to nice with good assortments. "Business" center consisted of 2 high quality computers in the lobby with a printer. The lobby also has great seating where family and friends can gather to talk and chat. I also noticed an additional room ourside behind the Business center where you can gather for a reunion or something of the like. It had two large grills, seating, tables, a crystallized bonfire and a gas fireplace! Nice addition!! First time seeing its kind at a hotel.
We actually live right outside of Louisville but stayed here because we had a conference for 3 Days downtown. Usually Embassy Suites is our choice but for some reason their prices were outrageous!! 😅🤣 I'm glad we chose Homewood this time! We wiill be back!! My only regret is not...
