Firstly, I believe the people writing the low star reviews are entirely too particular and hard to please as this hotel is not only very accommodating, but also extremely well priced compared to most places that offer the same amenities.
Yes, you will pay for everything from parking to water in the room and food as requested. This is a hotel of convenience not your average do it yourself stay.
Parking is $30.00 a night. A bit steep? Yes, but you aren't having to park somewhere that you would be worried about your car being broken into and whilst they offer valet service you aren't required to use it thus saving a bit more money if you aren't willing to pay for that. The valet attendants are wonderful as well.
The breakfast ranges from $12-$25 depending on if you order a plate of food or the buffet and in my opinion tastes just as good as a restaurant breakfast outside of the hotel and cost just as much. The hostess and wait staff are friendly and prompt. Also, please note there are three places within the hotel that serve food. One is a higher scale restaurant offering steaks, seafood, salads .etc. The second is more bar type food; nachos, wings..etc and also serves Starbucks. The third is breakfast.
There is a place to have your hair cut, a bourbon bar, and a couple shops. If you forgot your suit for an event, no worries as they have a men's Talbot's and it is very reasonably priced. There is a gift shop as well to purchase your Kentucky souvenir. Also very reasonably priced.
The front staff are not only friendly but helpful beyond measures. If you need anything extra for your room such as more towels and coffee, they will send some right away.
The cleaning staff is exceptional. There are multiple people cleaning at once therefore making sure you don't walk into a dirty room. Also very friendly and efficient.
I know there is a pool, however I didn't take the time to look at as it wasn't needed for my stay.
I didn't feel the need to have a waterfront view, but the view that I received was fantastic. I got to overlook the water anyway and see the bridge with the train and also the boats coming and going and a partial view of the city.
The room that I requested was pretty basic as that's all I needed. So I'm not sure about the more upscaled rooms. No, there isn't a microwave but I found that to be of no problem. There is a mini refrigerator if needed. The bathroom looked great. Nice and clean, beautiful sink, and a bath tub which is a nice. Yes, the sheets are very thin, but it is summer so that is to be expected. I also look at it as a thinner sheet in a place that accommodates many people is easier to keep clean and I would much rather have a clean sheet than a potentially thick dirty comforter. As far as the reviews about the water being $7 in your room; again that is a convenience and I would recommend bringing your own so as not to need it.
I also have to add that one night both lobbies filled up out of no where with people showing up for an event. Lines formed to elevators, the front desk, the escalators, and even the stairs. I thought I was going to be stuck downstairs for hours and unable to get to my room. In less than 30 minutes the staff had everyone checked in and to their rooms. The entire staff from front desk to valet to the cleaning staff and even the restaurant attendants worked together and made what could have been a frustrating experience a breeze to get through. Excellent work from all!
Overall, this hotel is a perfect example of what customer service should be and I would highly recommend staying here, but also please remember that this a hotel and not your house and things aren't going to be perfect for all, but they are working diligently to try and make it the best stay...
Read moreWe checked in on a Thursday and when we checked in, the floor of our roomwas dirty, it is carpet and there were visible crumbs on the floor. We called the front desk and someone came up and vacuumed but didn’t do a good job as the same crumbs were still on the floor. I called down to the front desk again to express my concerns about the dirty floor and to let them know the toilet was running. Maintenance came and decided the toilet couldn’t be fixed it needed to be replaced. We were moved to a different room. The next room appeared clean but the next morning I noticed there was black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. I expressed my concerns with this to the front desk and also let them know the room did not have a pull out couch since we booked 2 beds and a pull out couch, so 3 sleeping surfaces. We were moved to a 2 bedroom “apartment”. The apartment looked like it hadn’t been updated since the 1980s. The furniture was very old, the carpet was stained, and it had an overall creepy vibe to it but the room also still only had 2 beds and no pull out couch. We were moved again to another apartment that had 4 beds but 2 of the beds were just mattresses on the floor and it was still old furniture and stained carpet. There was also mold in the bathroom in the apartment. I requested to be moved to 2 adjoining hotel rooms as I was traveling with my sick mother and my children. The hotel accommodated this request and although there were still visible crumbs on the floor, I thought we would be ok for the remaining 2 nights. We then noticed mold on the ceiling in the bedroom where the ceiling wall paper was peeling. During the trip I noticed my mom and my daughter’s health decline and I’m confident it was due to the mold exposure. The fact that there was visible mold that wasn’t addressed makes me know that there is mold present that isn’t visible.
The rooms we moved to were all on different floors, so I was able to see 5 different hallways of the hotel. Every hallway floor I saw was very VERY dirty. It was as if they only vacuum every other month. There was also an unpleasant smell in the hallways. I also was not offered bell service during any of the room changes so I had to move all of our belongings myself.
My sick mother needed a wheelchair as did others from our group. When I asked the first time I was told there were no wheelchairs and that I would need to rent one from an outside company. That is fine, but unbelievable since this hotel was so large. I then asked again and security brought a wheelchair to the room for my mother to use. Other people in our group did not receive assistance with a wheelchair even though they requested it.
Each time I was moved to a new room, my card was reauthorized for charges to the point where there were 10 separate authorizations on my card that totaled my available credit. The hotel then told me my card was declined but did not understand that it was because they had authorized all the available funds on my account. When attempting to show it to the man at the front desk, he refused to look at my phone and proceeded to tell me he couldn’t see them on his end.
This hotel claims to be a premier hotel and to be newly renovated but it is definitely not clean and if cleanliness is important to you, don’t waste your time or money...
Read moreIf you have food allergies or sensitivities of any kind and you are attending a conference and The Galt House is serving your food, you might die or visit the ER.
I have several food allergies, and the wait staff is very incompetent and has no idea what an allergy is. They cannot cook without cross-contamination, according to the conversation with the chef. They have literally no idea of what ingredients are in the foods they serve.
I have an allergy to onions and garlic. My first meal there they brought a salad with onion. I said I cannot have onion, I have an allergy. They took the plate, scraped the onion off, and brought it back. I also cannot do salad dressing because of the onion and garlic, and they had no oil or vinegar to serve me. We requested several times just oil, and their kitchen does not have. (I find this extremely hard to believe!) They did find a bottle of French-type dressing (which they brought the bottles so I could read for myself the ingredients) that I could have. I start eating my salad and there we onions in the salad at the bottom, like they didn't all get scraped off! Which, by the way, is NOT an acceptable practice of being allergen-friendly. Thankfully, I had not eaten enough to make me ill but I was not able to eat the rest of the meal. I was told by the lead wait staff "The client, ordered a regular and specialty meal, we have nothing to serve you." For my entree that day they brought a plate of fruit.
The next day, they brought another salad with a ranch dressing. I had the same conversation and said the dressing has onion and garlic. They staff said no the chef says no onion you can eat. I requested to see a picture of the bottle. She comes back and says I'm so sorry, ma'am, but it has onion and garlic powder.. They had no other substitutions and I refused to eat anything else out of their kitchen, as they do not know what an allergy is. This is a dangerous practice, and they could possibly be killing guests!
I was not the only attendee with issues. A lot were told to just scrape whatever the allergen was off their plate or eat around it. I am horrified!
I would never go to a conference there again, and for sure never eat any food prepared in their kitchens. For as nice and as expensive as the hotel was, it was extremely disappointing. I have traveled across the country and been to several conferences and NEVER had the treatment or experience as this! You will get treated better and have more educated servers at a fast food place!
This is a review so the management can train every single food service worker on correct food safety and ServSafe practices. And I highly suggest you hire a dietitian who can guide the chef in making...
