Once again, hoodwinked, though I must take a small portion of the blame as I don’t seem to be a good judge or decision maker with regards to travel needs. Commerce’s most proficient criminals and con artists [marketing folks] get me every time. Nonetheless, on to the Day’s Inn by Wyndham Mackinaw City – Lakeview. The location is great, but that’s where the accolades stop. Nothing in any of the ads or offerings I researched accurately represents the reality of this place. The place is run down, worn out, outdated, and in disrepair, everything from the furniture to the parking lot. However, compared to industry standards it’s clean, it’s been cleaned to a point that a heavy cleaning chemical smell lingers in the air, possibly to neutralize any remaining offensiveness. The furniture has that sticky feel from overuse, sweaty arms, possibly dripping food and a lack of routine cleaning. Even the desk has a sticky feel, the same as restaurant table that been wiped repeatedly with an unrinsed cloth. Flooring, a throwback [or continuation of] the carpet in every hotel room dating back to the 60’s and 70’s, nasty, I imagine if you were to drop something and have to wipe it up, you’d get more filth back that you provided. The balcony for the first floor is really a deck, which is ok, but the lawn beyond it! Don’t venture outside of your deck/balcony barefoot or in sandals, should consider boots. The lawn is a carpet of seagull and goose feces, and I mean carpet – wall to wall. No enjoying the beachfront here. Sad thing is, it would only take a push style lawn sweeper pass once or twice a day to clean it up, we’re talking maybe an hours’ worth of work. The pool, advertised as an indoor pool, turns out to be a once outdoor pool now enclosed. You must cross the parking lot and driveways to get to it. Not saying that’s a big deal, it’s really not, and I’m not opposed to it, just the marketing of it, come on tell it like it is, at the very least present a true photo of it so I know what I’m getting into. Really don’t know what to say other than it needs a complete overall, room by room, stripped of everything. New wallcoverings, new flooring hopefully vinyl, tile, or a durable non carpet alterative, new window dressings, new furniture [no repairing/reusing existing], even the sliders and windows could use replacing. New amenity equipment, coffee pots, refrigerators, maybe add a small microwave. Though the heating and AC unit are working well, the exterior grills are in disrepair, kicked in, twisted, bent, etc. The building exterior is also showing its neglect. And the parking lot, the asphalt is crumbling, losing its structural integrity, the top coating is next to useless given the surface condition. As mentioned, there is a desk, however if you need an outlet, there are no open outlets available anywhere near the desk, all available outlets are filled with the hotel’s equipment, lamps, clocks, TV’s, etc., a complete inconvenience. Again, nothing in any offering on this place, not the descriptions, nor the pictures, matches its true existence, even many of the reviews command suspicion once you see this place in person. The pictures are either old or deliberately produced to mislead the potential customer. The staff reflect the overall state of this place, they are pleasant, informative, faintly engaging. But mostly, they project an abdicated sense of frustration with the state of affairs, an unspoken, oh well I’m sorry. Oh, and as for the billing, there is a price for a pet, which is fair. However, unless it’s buried in their site somewhere, all I could find is [even after the fact] “Pet Friendly”, no mention of a fee. Again, marketing people at their best. As some would say, enjoy your stay, or in this case, good luck and hope this helps those who...
Read moreI would give it a zero if I could. After figuring out WHERE to check in (because the sign about where to enter was not the location of the lobby or hotel) this hotel, which turned out to be a motel was the absolute worst place. Upon walking in I honestly described it as an upscale prostitute room. I took pictures of what we encountered and would have no problem sharing them with you. The room had holes all over the wall, the door security latch was broken, molding pulling off the wall around the door, door had a huge gap around the door when it closed such that you could see outside through the crack. There were paint scratches all over the door and refrigerator was scratched on top and front, there was tape in the inside. The cabinet where we suspect the refrigerator was supposed to go had glue spots all over it and was broken and scratched. The linen was dirty, their were many dead bugs in the light fixture in the bathroom which also gave off a yellow glow. The Kleenex box falling off the sink front, the tub had mold all around the tub edge and any caulk was cracked or falling off and black in color, the shower curtain rod was rusty and had water drips around it from the rust dripping when wet, lamp shades were stained and the lap shade bottom piping edge was literally literally hanging off, one lamp was also leaning forward as the base was broke, there was a wad of electrical cords behind the table next to bed that extended behind the bed to the lamp hanging on the wall on the other side of the bed. We found that because the light would not come on and figured it just had to be plugged in. It was a severe fire hazard. There was a towel on the counter in the bathroom that looked like it had probably been used. Trying to pull in the lot was a hazard. The parking lot was full of pot holes and what we thought was maybe employees leaving were just standing in the drive area of the lot and would not move even while we were in front of them trying to get by. Upon check in we were told that no one would come in the room unless we requested housekeeping and that you don't have a big breakfast...just muffins, juice and coffee. We reserved a king suite and it was expensive. If that was a suite....not sure what was special about it or why the high cost. There was NO CARPET. The TV was about 27 inch. Our "Lakeview" was a small patio with plastic chairs that looked to be the kind you can get on clearance from a Walmart. We did not feel safe in this hotel and were afraid to touch anything because it was so bad. We checked out shortly after checking in. When we did, the concierge asked if something was wrong with the room. I said she was better off asking what wasn't wrong with the room to which she proceeded to tell me that I will still be charged for the room because I did not cancel in time". She never asked for details or offered anything else. This room was absolutely disgusting and I will NEVER stay in a days in or Wyndam again. EVER! And we travel frequently. We have never had this experience at any hotel we have ever stayed in. For this being a huge travel area for tourists and a Wyndam hotel sponsored by the chamber, I am beyond shocked that a hotel (motel) could operate like this or would want their name associated with it. Even the exterior was run down. We stayed at another hotel which was a huge upgrade from this and actually...
Read morewe arrived at 2 am to book a room tired from driving on our way home to Sudbury On. The service was good, until I got in the room, I was sure there were some kind of bugs I could not see, as I felt my foot was being bitten, we checked the beds and saw nothing , so tired went to sleep, and in the night was bothered by more bug bites, again I could not see anything. In the morning I realized that I have been bitten by fleas and walking from the bed to the sink to brush my teeth I received approximately 24 bites in total on both feet. I have an allergic reaction to flea bites and my partner placed towels on the ground so I could walk to rest room. I spent the rest of the morning getting ready standing on the beds. We tried to call the office however the phone cord was all chewed up it looked like rodents may have chewed the cord. Now that I think about it I did hear rodent noises in the walls. Anyways we went down the office to complain about the bugs, I asked for the manager, and Jodi advised that she was the manager. I told her about the bugs and the bites offered to show her my feet and ankles, she refused called me a liar. Proceeded to tell me that I made up this story as my partner had no visible bites on his feet. She told me she was not going to discount the rate or return the room fee. She told me that I was bit by mosquitos outside. I had not left the room since 2 am the night before. I also tried to tell her that the phone in the room was not working as the cord was chewed up she just talked over me. I said to her : are you just going to rent that room to other guests, they will be bitten by fleas. She said that she would look at it. She said that if there were fleas everyone in the room would be bitten, I stated to her that perhaps everyone would be bitten however not everyone has an allergy to their bites. She was belligerent, she would not give me a complaint number or contact person for the chain of Days Inn. She stated that she was the manager that she owned the property and that she was not going to help me. I told her that I would complain to the health unit well if there is one ? and she said go ahead, she proceeded to takeout her cell phone and start to record me, stating in the phone In a more polite manner that she could not help me, I asked if she was recording me without permission she said yes, so I told her to turn it off, she refused therefore I flicked her phone towards the counter in her failed attempt to catch her phone she clumsily made it bounce up and hit herself in the chest with it. Then she called the police, and claimed that I grabbed her phone aggressively and threw it at her assaulting her. OMG what a woman I have never been treated with such disrespect. I hope no one stays there even if it is pet friendly as your pets will catch fleas and bring them home with them. I feel sorry for the pets that stay there and I will never stay there again or recommend it to anyone. I hope I find the number to place a proper complaint against this manager Jodi maybe her last name is Klooster....
