I stayed at the Hamilton Inn hotel, & because of Covid, they were not serving a continental breakfast. Instead, they were giving BOGO coupons for this breakfast spot so we went to check it out. It was Friday morning, Sept 11 around 8am. I mention this time because whoever the manager was (would not give me her name) was absolutely awful and should be fired by the owner immediately. It was the morning of my wedding, & it could not have been a worse start to the day. It was hands down the worst costumer service I have ever experienced in my entire life. I also am very understanding about all different types of problems in restaurants as I have been in the industry for years. What is unacceptable, however, is when the manager (who should be setting the example for all employees) is incredibly rude and negative towards her costumers. We started off our experience by walking into the restaurant and waiting at the front. We waited between 5 & 10 minutes to see any employee at all, & none had come to the front. We noticed people walking in & getting directly into the buffet line that was almost out the door. Seeing zero employees for further guidance, we decided to follow their lead. The food was exactly what you would find at a normal hotel buffet. Nothing I would return for, but not as bad as the service. Once we got to our table, we sat for a few minutes looking around. Since no one had come over, we thought drinks and silverware must be serve yourself so we got up to grab them. We walked over to the soda station, & a server yelled at us that a server would come to our table. So we returned to our table to wait for even longer. We sat with cold pancakes with no silverware, no syrup, & no drinks. My friend had a bowl of cereal with no milk & no spoon. After waiting what seemed like forever with no silverware, we spotted a server helping another table and called her over to ask for some. She told us a server would be over shortly. Once a server finally arrived, she lackadaisically took our order & didn’t apologize for the silverware situation as our now completely cold food sat in front of us. After taking our drink orders (and request for silverware) we watched her walk up to the front desk & start cashing people out. We continued to watch her do this for the next 5-7 people in line while we still sat with no silverware. Once she finally came back around, our food was no longer good so we decided we would just cash out. She went back up to the front to continue cashing people out before we could get our bill, & another server told us we could go up without our receipt. With one person ahead of us in line, the manager took over. We told her the situation and she very rudely told us that it was not her job to track down our server to find our receipt & she had people walking in that she needed to take care. [1. Why do you not have a host to greet/seat people & a cashier to cash people out 2. Do you not need to take care of the people who are trying to hand you money?] Our server also did not give us her name. We explained how we difficult it had been our entire experience trying to track down & server &preferred not to do so again to wait 15 more minutes to get a receipt to get back in line. As she grabbed menus & started walking people to a table, she said “that is not my responsibility”. I asked her, “Aren’t you the manager? Isn’t everything in this restaurant your responsibility?” Half way through the restaurant while still walking people to a table she turned around and yelled, “EXCUSE ME?!” through the restaurant and multiple tables were staring. I repeated myself, “Aren’t you the manager?” She said nothing and then grabbed our receipt and checked us out. She ended by very sarcastically telling us to find a way to be happier today. How extremely frustrating it is being refused a bill when standing with a handful of cash just trying to forget what a terrible experience you had. I will never be back and I wanted to warn anyone thinking about going, no breakfast is better than breakfast...
Read moreLet me start by saying the food was okay. Nothing special but not terrible. The place is full of international exchange students which isn't an awful thing until you have one who decides she will assist the person infront of you who was white, then skip you and go to the person behind you..who was also white (it's a full service buffet).
At first I thought, it was accidental but then my sister who went in line at a completely different time from me had the same experience. We are not white and she was...so the assumption is that it has something to do with race but can't say that conclusively.
When we were in line to pay we mentioned to the manager or the older woman at the front that one of the buffet line service workers was quite rude to which she responded with "okay". There was no attempt to inquire about why or what happened. At that point I went outside and took the attached picture so I could post this review. After seeing this, the manager proceeded to come outside to take a picture of my rental car. Lol. What for...who knows.
I went in to tell her I took the pic so I could post a review and not sure why she needed a picture of the car I was driving and she says "it's public info" and that if I post a review she would post a rebuttal. (Okayyy)
Then she proceeds to tell me that Biance is an exchange student and she probably didn't understand what I was saying and that I look like someone who likes to cause trouble. I then responded and said she didn't ask me what happened and that there was no conversation with this chick at all....she simply skipped me and then my sister. She just stood there laughing with the exchange students and said nothing.
Mind you this is also a place with 40 trashy hand written signs about which door people should use. My sister carried a sleeping baby in a heavy car seat in and because there was a huddle of people waiting to be seated, at the entrance door, we went in through the exit explaining that we already had a table and the people were blocking the entrance and she made a snarky remark about rules being in place for a reason.
So basically be aware that this place isn't family or baby friendly and is not understanding towards new moms. Also, be aware that there may be some racists hidden among the staff.
So long Toast A-Go-Go...we will surely choose a classier place...
Read moreWe went for breakfast . We reviewed the menu on line before visiting. I'm not a breakfast buffet type of person (I usually find that the food at buffets is over done, hurriedly prepared and overpriced) but that's all they were offering that day. The regular menu was not in effect, probably due to covid restrictions. Food was okay nothing special. Scrambled eggs, fruit, sausage and potatoes. Our group was four people.
The breakfast buffet was 15.99 each. Coffee and juice was not covered by the coupon and was 2.99 each. So in effect each breakfast cost us $19.00 each. The breakfast food was constable to the breakfasts offered by hotels.
Side note: hotels are still not offering their breakfasts yet, even though COVID restrictions have been lifted. The hotel rates are as high, if not higher now as compared to pre COVID.
Toast a go go offers a coupon available in multiple print formats in various Mackinaw publications for a buy one get one free buffet. We had one coupon we picked up at our hotel. No where in the coupon did it state any limitations.
The other customers at the register had stacks of coupons to cover their parties. Those coupons were promptly thrown in the trash by the cashier after their bills were paid.
When I asked if we could use our one coupon to cover our party I was abruptly told "No, you need a coupon for each buy one/ get one". We were disappointed when the coupon would only cover one person, we thought it would cover two, especially since the coupon seemed somewhat arbitrary, as most, if not all people got the buy one get one.
Our bill for 4 people came to over $80. Which was reduced by the one coupon by 15.99.
That's a pretty expensive breakfast for some over done eggs, burnt sausage, and fruit.
I won't go back, we were treated rudely, food was subpar and poor customer service.
It seems that Toast a GoGo is quite a money maker...
