In this day of mainstream hotels competing for your hard earned dollar by offering amenities the industry has brainwashed you into thinking you need at runaway prices, the Holiday Motel flies in the face of that, and for us it was refreshing. For example, most places say "free breakfast". Its never free and quality of food is often poor. The Holiday is a return to the "clean place to sleep" simplicity of the 1970s at a price reflecting 25 years ago. Our room was clean and functional with surprisingly very comfortable beds. Clean bathroom, Fridge, microwave, coffee, TV. Ice and laundry a few steps away. We slept well every night. Didn't see any bugs anywhere. Simple room entry since all one level and parking is right in front like the good old days in contrast having to ask or figure out a map how to find your room through a hallway maze at mainstream hotels. And real room keys vs magnetic cards that fail to work at most inopportune time. The owner, Rob, lives in the house on premises and doesn't tolerate obnoxious or out of control guests. Straight up simple no BS at check in. Don't expect to be coddled here but if you need something, it is taken care of. If you are used to staying in $250 plus/night hotels where everything is brand new you might not like it here. The Holiday is perfect for those who don't think they are perfect themselves. No Pets and No Smoking! Thank You Rob! Pool is not going to reopen after the flood in 2024. The Holiday is known as motorcycle friendly and its 100% perfect for that. We were here for an antique motorcycle meet and at the Comfort Inn across road, people were packed in literally like a can of sardines while we had no congestion and lots of free empty space out front. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat. POPs restaurant on site is a few steps away and is awesome especially breakfast. This review is based on a room rate under $100...
Read moreThis is our second stay & we will definitely keep coming! Great location, in the middle of the many places on Soco in Maggie Valley, and right beside Pop’s, which is a mandatory breakfast stop. It’s also across from the event grounds, where most of the car/bike events are held, so it’s a great location. The rooms are big & super clean. The porch rockers are perfect to sit & watch the mountain (bring binoculars & hunt the goats!!) & talk with other guests. There are grills, a fire pit, picnic tables, pool & playground. All clean & beautifully maintained. Maggie Valley is a motorcycle destination, so be ready to see bikes everywhere. I think we were 1 of 2 groups not on bikes at the motel. They leave buckets of towels/rags to dry off your bike when the rains come. I think that’s a nice touch. The best part of the rooms is how quiet they are! Once you’re in, you don’t hear a peep! The porch lights go off about 10, and it’s sleepy time! The rooms have a TV, microwave, fridge, hairdryer, hanging clothes rack, dresser & plenty of outlets. The mattresses are sooooo comfy! This is an older motel that has been well maintained. Do not go expecting a resort. Do go expecting clean, quiet & friendly. Can’t wait for our next visit. Oh!! Be sure & watch for elk!! We...
Read moreExcellent family friendly hotel! If you are used to clean, inexpensive hotels with local knowledge, this is the place. If Holiday Inn is more to your taste, not so much. My take is that one is more Maggie Valley, and the other is more Asheville. Pick one and take a day trip to the other. Although the building is old, the owners are young and totally get kids, including teenagers. They also are quick to suggest ways us older folks can unwind. Be sure to ask Gabbi about local waterfalls. The bed was too soft for my liking, but I am sure that is due to their new mattress pillows, which could have easily been removed if I said something. Not a big deal for me, and I am sure others really like them. If you prefer a hard bed, just mention that while making the reservation (which you will need), this hotel has an understandable loyal following! All in all, I...
