The location is very isolated. We did not stay particularly long because the hotel is not near much of anything. Actually Maitland as a whole is pretty spread out. All of the hotels are not within walking distance of many restaurants and Ubers/Lyft takes a while to show up here. The surrounding hotels in the area, especially north in Altamont Springs, are much better options: better rates, more amenities, and a better location.
After a somewhat recent stay at this hotel with my partner, I am saddened to feel the need to change my already iffy review to an even more critical response. The night of check in, the woman working behind the desk was beyond friendly and provided amazing customer service. It had not been the best of nights for me, and she could tell I had been crying when I approached the desk to get our room. She was super sympathetic and even upgraded our room for free because it was very late, and she didn't have any other reservations booked for the night. She also allowed me to get a free beverage from their convenience shop and let me know that she would leave a note for the morning staff/management to allow my room number to have a complimentary late check out as long as their was enough vacancies to accommodate us. I wasn't asking for much, just an extra hour since we paid full price for our reservation and didn't check in until 1:30 AM, and we desperately needed the extra sleep. She said the staff would call the room in the morning to let us know either way. The room was clean and very nice. As I previously mentioned, the property is very secluded, but for a short one night stay simply to sleep and watch Netflix, the room was pretty perfect. We didn't set the alarm, since we figured staff would call and wake us up. They never did. And I am confident that this associate left the note that she promised she would. Regardless, it was about 15 minutes after check out, and management started banging on the door. Eventually, we woke up and answered it apologetically, attempting to explain the situation. The manager did not want to hear it. She called security, and we were lead down to the front desk, as if we committed a crime. She said that we were now banned from the property, and we needed to pack our things immediately and leave. The problem was, we had already went on Priceline to pay for our room for another night to avoid further confrontation. No one seemed to care, and they would not provide a refund or call Priceline (which is Priceline's policy for cancellations), and directed us to leave immediately. Confused, we went back to the room to pack, upset, embarrassed, confused, and quite frankly, angry. We had spent about $220 for the room since it was a Saturday, and needed the money to be refunded in order to get a different room. Then, I made the mistake, apparently, of asking the housekeeper if I could have an extra towel to wash my face with. Security later told us that she told the manager that she "recognized me" and that we were not good guests. So instead of the 15 minutes we were supposed to have to pack and leave (for no reason whatsoever), they decided to call the police anyways about 5 minutes into packing. The cops searched us and our room. After they didn't find anything, they asked for our I.D's to run our names in case we were wanted for crimes or something. Neither of us had any reason to be arrested or otherwise in trouble, so the police instructed the manager to back off and allow us the time to pack our things, and to also call Priceline so we could get a refund (5 days later-it was hours before a friend picked us up,). I even wrote a good review after our first stay! We are a gay couple, so it was decided that we weren't welcome at "A Marriott". The manager, a petite, middle-aged woman with a hot temper, made it clear that she was NOT for gay rights. Humiliating. How can people treat other people in such a way? Especially those in an authoritative/superior position? I can't imagine being her-doing this to 2 innocent people. She, and the hotel in general,...
Read moreThe hotel and rooms we had ZERO complaints, the hotel was clean and well designed. I am giving it one start because of the staff the hotel has. Upon checking in the women at the counter didn't great us. She simply said checking in? We said yea ma'am, NAME? We told her then she said ok put your credit card in. So I did and asked, how much, her response was I will tell you after you insert your card. So i did as i was told. Then she walked away, Took my credit card out and she handed my husband the keys. I mentioned the price again as she just walked away. Then later that evening (we came up with about 30 guests) a large majority of the guests where solarizing and about 4-5 kids where loud. The hotel gave a another guest a notification that if any one of the guests are caught in the halls making noise after 9 pm we could be fined or asked to leave without a refund. The fee was in the amount of 150.00.
The next night after our event we all went back tot he hotel swim and unwind. The pool sign said, Closes at 10am. It was 7:45pm at this point. A women from the front desk walked out and told up we all had to leave. A guest then pointed out to her that the pool sign says pool closes at 10pm. Her response was NO, It closed at 7, you all need to leave the area, we then asked her if she could allow us to stay until 10pm as what the sign says, she just repeated, no we closed today at 7pm. We (30+ guests) felt this was uncalled for. They treated us unfairly all weekend. Majority of the time as you walked past the front desk they would not even look our way for a smile or anything. We did not feel welcome, even after spending $380.00 to stay. I have had warmer greeters at 2 start hotels then we did at this one. Again the hotel was beautiful. The staff not so much. The morning of continental breakfast, I personally arrived down at 7:30am. I asked one lady that was in the area if they are making more or is what is left all we have. She didn't bother looking at me but mumbled as she walked away, sure i will bring more. That was it. Extremely unpleasant staff. No one in our party was disrespectful or rude to them but they did not enjoy us being there. I would imagine we brought A LOT of money this weekend. When we where leaving the room, packed up I even felt the need to video my room as we left JUST so we would not get charged extra for leaving things untidy. This is how the staff made most of their...
Read moreOn November 20, 2015 our corporation made reservations at the Maitland Courtyard for 4 of our survey crew members. Our Confirmation Number was 92547295. Our reservation was guaranteed to my corporate credit. We listed the names of each of the individuals that would by staying for 2 nights. I received an email confirming the reservation for November 23 and November 24, 2015 at my corporate email.
Our survey crew arrived on the afternoon of November 23, 2015 to check in. The front desk clerk on duty refused to allow them to register. She told them that their names were not on the credit card and she wouldn’t grant them access to the room unless I completed the following documentation: 1. Authorization for Deferred Billing 2. "A clean and legible copy of the front and back of the Credit Card and Driver License must be signed and sent back with this authorization in order to process the deferred billing."
All the while I am completing this lengthy application, photocopying the credit card and drivers license, my 4 employees were sitting in the lobby after working all day surveying in the Maitland area. They were tired, hungry and wanted to take a shower. They were prevented from these activities by a front desk clerk who obviously was not trained properly for her position or could not understand or remember what a "guaranteed reservation" means. This is demonstrated by the fact that she knew my credit card was used to make the reservation. Why she would have that knowledge without being able to discern that the 4 people standing before her were the same people for whom the reservation had been made.
It is my belief that the front desk clerk was "profiling" our survey crew based on their appearance after surveying all day and additionally was discriminating against them by making them wait in the lobby for an inordinate amount of time.
For your information, we are a civil engineering and surveying firm who does work all over Florida. We frequently send our crews and engineers for extended stay throughout Florida. In addition, we have sent crews to Texas, North Dakota and Colorado. You can be assured that we will never book at a Courtyard again. We have also made our staff aware of this...
