When parking, we noticed that there was a police car sitting directly outside the entrance. Why would there need to be a police officer on stand by at an ice skating rink that has mostly kids under 18 there? Of course, as soon as we walk up the officer follows us inside. We buy our tickets and go to rent our skates. The man at the skate rental counter is very cold and as he asks for our sizes. He gives my husband a pair of the regular brown skates and when my husband requested a pair of hockey skates, he says, āthese are better for beginners.ā Why would you assume that we are beginners? We have been here three times prior and have also ice skated many other times elsewhere. Weāre not professionals but also nowhere near beginner and my husband knows that he likes the feel of hockey skates better than the regular ones. When he told him that, the guy just looked at him until I stepped in and said āheās saying that he prefers the hockey skates, can you get him those please?ā And finally he gave him the skates. Donāt forget that the officer is standing within eye view. We lace up and go onto the rink, which is packed and you can barely skate comfortably unless you zoom in and out of people who barely know how to ice skate. At this time, the officer is WATCHING US SKATE (mind you, we are 2/4 black people in there). Are you supposed to feel protected by this officer or stalked? At this point, itās a bit ridiculous. Skating is an hour and 45 minutes of free time but they clean the ice for about 20 minutes. So if you donāt get there early, youāre screwed. The ice skates werenāt very comfortable and were hurting my feet and legs so we decided to leave a little early. Upon returning the skates, the officer comes and pretty much walks us out and goes back into his car as soon as we leave. From arrival to departure, the whole experience was bad. Feeling watched the whole time was icing on the cake. I really wonder why the need for a police officer at an ice skating rink unless there is a problem for some reason. Weāll find somewhere...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI donāt normally write reviews, but after several amazing interactions with Tony the Goalie at the RDV Pro Shop, I felt like this needed to be said. If thereās one person who defines what great customer service should look like, itās him.
From the very first time I came in, Tony stood out. Heās incredibly knowledgeable about all the gearāwhether itās skates, sticks, sharpening needs, or accessories. Heās the type of guy who not only knows the difference between every blade and hollow but can explain it to you in a way that actually makes sense, no matter your experience level. You can tell he really takes the time to listen, understand what youāre looking for, and then give advice thatās actually useful. He doesnāt just try to sell you somethingāhe helps you find whatās right.
On top of that, heās super helpful and patient. Iāve seen him juggle multiple customers without rushing a single one. Heāll remember your name, remember your skate preferences, and treat you like a regular even if itās your first visit. Iāve seen parents come in with confused looks and leave confident because of how clearly Tony explained everything to them and their kids. That kind of service builds trust, and he earns it with every interaction.
And letās not pretend the guy isnāt easy on the eyes eitherāTonyās got that clean, put-together look and a smile that instantly makes the place feel more welcoming. But itās his professionalism and attitude that really stand out. He makes you want to come back not just for the gear, but for the experience.
If RDV had a āCustomer Worker of the Yearā award, Tony would win it without question. The Pro Shop runs smoother because of him, and I honestly think the whole facility is better for having him on staff. Major...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe called before we went and asked the prices and times for the ice skating . We got there and the price was different because the person forgot it was Friday night . No big deal right ? Ok so then we pay $60 for the four of us to skate after waiting in line for 30 minutes. The line wasn't moving at all .. Not slow .. I mean not at all . Complete standstill for 15 of the minutes we waited . We pay . We go through the person checking wrist bands and she says you have until 945. It was 820 at this time ! Are you kidding me !? We had to then wait to get skates... Didn't have my size or anything close so I had to squeeze Into a skate 2 sizes to small . Rediculous ! My boyfriends shoes were to big but it's all they had too. We went around the rink once and they announced we had to get off for 15 minutes while they smooth the ice ! Are you kidding me ? So all in all we got to scate for about 30 minutes . I will never go back again ! Also I think it was teen night and they forgot to tell us that part too. There literally wasn't one person older than 16 except my boyfriend and I . Tried to make the best of it but boy what a waste of...
