There were many things I liked about The Haven, but there were a few quirky things that gave me pause. We arrived on a Wednesday afternoon, and immediately found that the bulb in the overhead kitchen light was out. We went back to the office and asked for a replacement, which was brought to our room very promptly. The room (#9) was in a lower courtyard area, and was very small but functional and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with plates, silver, and a mini coffee maker. The front door has a curtain over the window, but it doesn't quite meet the bottom of the glass so it is easy to see into the room (and look directly at the bed). I ended up hanging a towel over the existing curtain for a bit more privacy. The downside of the lower level room was that we heard every footstep in the cottage and on that room's deck above us. The room above must also have a sliding door to the bathroom or closet, and we could hear it scraping at all hours of the day and night.||||There is free wi-fi, but the connection was so slow we ended up not using it during our stay and switched to the local 4G which had good reception and speed.||||We decided to turn up the heat a bit since the weather was unseasonably cold, but the furnace in the room would not go on. We quickly figured out that the pilot light was out, but we weren't sure if the unit had been turned off for the summer or if it was ok to light it. At the same time, we discovered that the smoke detector had a dead battery, so back to the office we went asking for a replacement battery and help with the furnace. Again, both issues were addressed promptly.||||On Thursday, we went out to dinner and returned to find that the kitchen light had again burned out. Either the wiring is faulty, or the bulb was - but a replacement was again promptly provided. The over sink light in the bathroom flickered and the fan was non-functional (it turned on noisily but did not suck air).||||On Friday, a group of guests sat outside and partied, talking loudly until midnight. With single pane windows, we could hear every word. No attempt was made by the management to quiet the guests, and when I inquired about the party the next morning, the manager seemed unaware of the issue. Because the office is adjacent to the owners' living space, there is no one available at the office on a regular basis (you have to ring the doorbell) and phoning the office generally directs the caller to an answering machine. I didn't feel that I could easily contact the office for help.||||But all of that said, we enjoyed our little room. There was a small table for 2 and a very functional kitchenette. We ate breakfast in the room each day and packed our lunches for hiking. Dinners were eaten in town at The Tiger Bar and at the June Lake Brewery/Ohanas 395 food truck - both within easy walking distance. For the price and location, I'd consider returning here again, but would ask for a room on the...
Read moreWe have been staying at the Haven for about 3 years at different times of the year to fish the June Lake Loop. Some times just my wife and I and other times the whole family. The haven has been good enough for us to keep coming back but if your expecting 4-5 stars this is not the place for you. We were just there last week and this time my family rented 3 different units. My wife and I with 2 teen kids rented a 2 bedroom for 4 nights. The place is cozy heater, Fire place, fridge, stove, Microwave and all the items you need to stay for a while. Everything was in working condition but the place needs some a little upgrading. Since we are here to fish and enjoy our time with the family it works out perfect. We fish all day, come back get cleaned up and hang out on the large patio, have some drinks, BBQ and enjoy the view. They even have a Jacuzzi, this is definitely a place for an outdoorsman, fishing, Hiking or skiing. We never had any issues with things not working and the owner was nice, all we ever needed was towels and toiletry. Both of my daughters each rented the Studios and they were both clean and they had no complaints. The ones on the lower level need additional lighting since there are bears during this time looking for free food. We all had a great time the 4 nights we were here. ||||Pros:||Great view of June Lake, Good location to stores, tackle shop and restaurants, Large patio with BBQ's and tables, plenty of room to leave fishing poles and float tubes out with no worries, working Jacuzzi, fish cleaning station, WIFi, friendly owner, reasonably priced.||||Cons:||Not a lot of parking stalls, some of the units need to...
Read moreWe stayed 2 nights...the owner was very accommodating and the location is ideal! The facility itself however needs an angel with investment income. It's really on the decline. ||There was a lot of space and very clean sheets and towels...also I appreciated the very clean cool retro stove in the well-appointed kitchen. ||The bedrooms are up a very steep staircase. Note that one must walk through one bedroom to reach the second so it's only appropriate for families or folks who don't mind a lack of privacy. Thankfully it was only my husband and myself because the lack of light blocking curtains on windows facing very bright outdoor lights (on all night) make sleeping in the second room improbable. ||There were books in the rooms and vintage style bedding but the decor is nothing like pictured on the website. The bathroom which is downstairs had a new sink but desperately needs new or painted baseboards and something done with the floor. Yuck!! ||It appears some of the 'cabins' have residents, 1 of which liked to smoke pot in the courtyard. (Not a positive for me) ||The spa room has cracked windows and needs to be resurfaced. I wasn't entirely comfortable using it. ||I'm a fan of places meeting my expectations and I'm sorry to say this didn't come close. They've done some nice things like arrange for a discount at the local marina but this place needs a lot of work to live up to the website or...
