Few positive things to share. The motel is cozy and well-maintained. In general, the staff is accommodating with special requests and knowledgeable about the area. Housekeeping ladies are super friendly. The rooms are missing some basics like a small table to eat or work on and disposable cups. Oh well, it's a small town! Unfortunately, I left with a negative impression for similar reasons others have left negative reviews related to billing and general inflexibility. In other words, management of this place is doing YOU a favor by allowing you to stay here.
I made my reservation over the phone. It's customary to advise guests of any policies verbally at the time of booking. It's also customary that policies exist to protect the business, especially in seasonal destinations destinations which I understand. It’s not the policy, it’s the way they handled it that is unacceptable.
When I requested to leave a day early the night prior, I was told this was "against clearly stated policies that I may haven't been told but should have read". The individual than disconnected my call and refused to pick up several follow up calls for assistance. When I called from a different number the individual pretended to forget the entire conversation and said it was now after-hours and they only assist with such requests after 9am (another rule I was breaking).
I visited the reception the next morning to attempt to have a more rational discussion. On this occasion, the team member wasn't willing to listen to my concerns. Instead she printed a confirmation e-mail and pointed to the policy, the non-verbal equivalent of telling a customer to shut up. When I tried to discuss, I was told I could try to dispute my credit card, "that happens all the time and people always lose:" If you have a pile of chargebacks, you’re not doing something right as a business owner. She seems to be intent on escalating the issue and also said they have plenty of customers that follow the policies and have more generous policies than competitors.
Customers can be wrong, and I admit fault for not more closely reading the policy. What I'm not sorry for is wishing to be treated with respect. It's really not about the wasted $100+ bucks. Most hotels are more flexible than normal given the circumstances, especially for a guest who 's already stayed 2 nights with them and would likely repeat and recommend them to others. Instead I’m doing the opposite, DON'T STAY HERE. It's very clear their self-imposed rules are more important than earning repeat business. If you want to be treated like you're at the DMV or Post Office I encourage you to book. If not, there's plenty of other places to stay. 1 negative review costs way more than the $100 they earned for battling it out over 1 night. Service matters for businesses big and small. They just...
Read moreOur bathroom door has got locked by itself from the inside. I discovered that in the middle of the night when I woke up to use the bathroom. They didn't have any bathroom door keys in the unit. I went through every drawer. I called the receptionist. She had no clue if there was any key for the case like that and she had no idea what to do. She struggled to reach someone. I called her back, she still didn't get a hold of anyone. I asked her what kind of solution they have for emergencies like that because I really needed to use the restroom or whether it was possible to transfer us to a different unit (however we still had some of our stuff in the bathroom). She still had no idea what to do. After trying different stuff to unlock the door we used our metal nail filer to unscrew the screws and take out the lock to get inside. Then we set up the lock back the same way. That was insane. I wanted to cancel the request because we were very tired and didn't want anybody to come to wake us up for fixing the lock problem. So I called back but the person had no clue that there was any request sent. So I had to explain the whole situation again and provide info for my request to cancel. Very very unpleasant experience. The place is nice, very cozy. I was happy to discover the location and would love to come back on my future trips. The spot is perfect right in between Yosemite and Mammoth Lake. But not being able to use the bathroom in the middle of the night after the whole day spent hiking ruins the experience. If you install the lock that requires a key PLEASE keep it...
Read moreI was in town for "Leaves In The Loop". I called the motel for information and was assisted by a very nice person. I decided to skip the online booking service and reserved a room directly receiving a very fair rate. Check-in was quick and easy. I was pleasantly surprised to be assigned to such a nice room. Though basic, it had all I needed to be comfortable for my 3-night stay. The best part was how comfortable the mattress was.The bathroom was clean and looked like it had been updated recently. This motel is in a great location and is within walking distance to most sources of food and the local shops. Everyone that I spoke to in town were all very friendly. This is a very close community and they do make visitors feel welcome. The Leaves In The Loop event was amazing. The weekend started off with a paint-and-sip event on Friday. Saturday had a car show, a guided leaf walk in a local fall color hot spot, then an in-town pumpkin patch with vendors and activities for the kids. All to raise money for the @JuneLakeLittleLoopers, NPO. On Sunday, there was a narrated walking tour of the town. June Lake Loop is an amazing destination for a vacation or just a weekend getaway that offers something for everyone year-round. I would like to thank June Lake Villager Motel for their part in making my...
