I Thought I Knew Pot Pie. Then I Found Pino Pies in June Lake
Let’s be real. If you think you have tasted a real pot pie and you have not been to Pino Pies in June Lake, you are missing out. This place is not just a pie shop. It is an out of body experience. I came in for coffee and left in a food trance. I did not even plan to eat here. Now Pino Pies is my personal Everest of baked goodness.
Right away, let me shout out their vanilla latte. It is the smoothest, strongest, and most comforting cup I have had anywhere near the Eastern Sierra. No weird acidity, no jitters, just pure caffeinated happiness.
Now the pies. If you try one, you will end up in a cycle of just one more. I started with the ground beef and cheese. It was heaven. Then I tried the butter chicken. Wait, this is even better. Then steak. I was lost. The crust is something else. Imagine your favorite top crust. Golden, flaky, perfect. Now imagine that all the way around, top to bottom, like some Pixar food fantasy brought to life. Every filling is packed with flavor, quality ingredients, and made with real heart. This is not frozen food. This is grandma’s kitchen if your grandma had superpowers.
And let’s talk about the sausage roll and Aussie pie because everyone in the reviews raves about them. I get it now. Both deserve their own fan clubs. Same goes for the sweet pies, especially anything with berries. Just know that whatever you order, it will sell out fast. That is how you know you are in the right spot.
But here is what makes Pino Pies a legend. The people. I have never had such friendly service. They make you feel like family. My daughter wanted a hot chocolate, and even though it was not on the menu, they got creative and made her a custom one with whipped cream and a cute drawing on the cup. Five minutes later, she is grinning ear to ear. That is the vibe here. Warm, welcoming, and just plain good.
Outside, you have views of June Lake, the mountains, and a patio that is basically a magnet for both locals and travelers. This place is the real small town dream. If you are wondering where to eat in June Lake, stop wondering. Just go to Pino Pies.
Pro tips • Go early or you will miss out. Pies and sausage rolls go quickly • Bring friends or just be ready to fight them for the last pie • Grab a latte and thank yourself later • This is the perfect stop after hiking, fishing, or snowboarding
And here is the kicker. I convinced my family, all seventeen of them, to come back three times. We planned a whole weekend around this place. Pino Pies is that good. If you are anywhere near June Lake, do not hesitate. Skip breakfast at your hotel and get here fast.
Final verdict. If you do not try Pino Pies, did you even visit June Lake? Best pies in California. I would drive seven hours again just for another bite.
