I recently dined at Joey in Manhattan Beach with a group of 11, and unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected from a restaurant of this caliber.

We had a reservation for 6:30 PM and had proactively updated the restaurant that our party size had changed from 13 to 11. Upon arrival, we were told the table was still being set up, which was fine, so we went to the bar for drinks. However, the bar setup was unnecessarily complicated, as we were forced to consolidate our drinks onto three separate tabs rather than having individual ones, which made the start of our evening frustrating.

Once we finally made it to our table, our server greeted us by stating that she would be removing a table because there were “too many.” We explained that we needed the extra space, but she insisted, despite our group still filtering in from the bar. When we counted the seats, we realized there were only nine, not 11. She initially argued with us about it but eventually admitted we were right and put the table back.

The disorganization continued throughout dinner. When our appetizers arrived, we asked for individual plates for everyone, and one guest was left without one. Rather than simply bringing another, the server insisted he should have one, essentially arguing again rather than resolving the issue. He was forced to eat off the appetizer plate until a plate finally arrived.

When it came to the entrees, my steak was ordered rare but was practically raw and overly peppered. I specifically asked for mushrooms on the side, but they were placed on top of the steak. Meanwhile, my friend ordered the same dish, received her mushrooms on the side as requested, but was missing mashed potatoes entirely—more evidence of careless service.

One of our guests also had water spilled on him because the server poured it directly into his glass without noticing his straw, causing an overflow. Instead of apologizing, she blamed him for not removing the straw—again, another unnecessary interaction that made us feel like we were constantly being challenged rather than served.

For a restaurant where steaks are priced at $70, we expected a higher level of professionalism, attentiveness, and hospitality. We spent well over $600, and while we were initially told gratuity would be included for a party our size, it wasn’t. Despite the poor service, we still tipped decently because we respect service workers, but frankly, the server did not earn it.

Beyond the poor experience, it’s also worth mentioning that the dress code for female staff is concerning. Seeing women required to wear short skirts, low-cut tops, and high heels while delivering subpar service raises serious questions about the restaurant’s priorities. It would be one thing if the food and service were excellent, but when both are lacking, it makes for an entirely disappointing dining experience.

Having also visited Joey locations in Seattle, I’ve noticed a pattern—poor service, subpar food, and a corporate culture that seems more focused on appearance than quality. We won’t be returning, and I’d recommend others think twice before dining here. A restaurant’s leadership sets the tone, and until management prioritizes both staff treatment and customer experience, I can’t see this...

I've just had the pleasure of dining at Joey's Manhattan Beach, and let me tell you, this place is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted by a modern, cozy atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped into a chic, beachside oasis. The decor is great, with vibrant local art that gives off those positive, endless summer vibes. But the real stars of the show are the staff. I was served by Mike, whose knowledge of the menu was unparalleled, and whose charm could probably light up the entire South Bay. He made every dish sound like the culinary adventure of a lifetime, and his service was spot-on—attentive without being overbearing, just like a good server should be.

Now, let's talk about the food, starting with those incredible Schezuan Wraps. They’re my personal favorite, and were a burst of flavor, perfectly balancing spice and freshness in every bite, making them the highlight of my meal.

But it wasn't just Mike; the entire bar team was phenomenal, crafting drinks that were as visually spectacular as they were tasty. They recommended a cocktail that paired perfectly with my meal, enhancing the flavors like a culinary symphony. The Good Life Margarita is incredible. Spicy, yet refreshing with a beautiful purplish color.

But the real magic happens when you meet Manager Jessica. She's not just managing; she's orchestrating an experience. Jessica is the kind of manager who makes you feel like you're part of the Joey's family from the get-go. Her genuine smile and warmth are infectious, and she’s clearly passionate about ensuring every guest leaves with a smile as big as hers. She even took the time to chat with me and thank me for my meal. Jessica is dedicated and delightful.

I've been to my fair share of trendy spots in L.A., but Joey's Manhattan Beach stands out. It's not just about the beautiful people or the Instagram-worthy ambiance; it's about the heart behind the operation. Mike and the bar team's service, combined with Jessica's management, create an environment where you feel valued and pampered.

If you're looking for a place where the food is as delightful as the company, where every detail is thought through, and where the staff treats you like royalty, this is your spot. Five stars? Absolutely, but in the grand scheme of the universe, Joey's Manhattan Beach deserves a...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Joey Manhattan Beach – The Ultimate Dining Experience! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Joey Manhattan Beach has become my go-to spot every time I’m in LA, which is often—at least once or twice a month. Nestled in the heart of Manhattan Village, this place is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a complimentary glass of bubbly, setting the tone for an upscale yet welcoming atmosphere.

The space itself is stunning—spanning over 9,400 square feet, with a 2,100-square-foot patio, making it the perfect place for business travelers, corporate groups, tourists, or a fun night out with friends. It’s trendy, vibrant, and offers a relaxed, contemporary vibe. The abstract artwork by California artist Amber Goldhammer adds a unique touch, embodying the essence of an endless summer.

The menu is phenomenal, offering a global selection of flavors. The Joey Classic steak is a favorite, and the herb-crusted salmon is melt-in-your-mouth perfection. Whether you’re stopping by for brunch, lunch, dinner, happy hour, or a late-night bite, you’ll find something to love. And let’s not forget the stellar beer and wine selection, plus craft cocktails that keep the evening going.

What truly makes Joey Manhattan Beach special is the impeccable service. A huge shoutout to Assistant General Manager Gina Blake, who went above and beyond to make our night exceptional. Her professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail made us feel like VIPs. It’s rare to find someone who genuinely cares about every guest’s experience, and Gina does it effortlessly. Our server, Simone, was fantastic, ensuring our table was always taken care of with the perfect balance of attentiveness and charm.

And of course, kudos to Executive Chef Ramie Arbid—the culinary artistry here is unmatched. From presentation to flavor, every dish is crafted to perfection.

If you’re flying into LA, a local, or just passing through, Joey Manhattan Beach should be your “Cheers.” Whether you’re here for business, a girls’ night, or a casual upscale evening, this place delivers on every level. You can dine in, take out, or even have it delivered. And with fast service, outdoor seating, private dining options, and a welcoming atmosphere, there’s truly something for everyone.

Highly recommend! Five stars...

This was a first time eating at Joey and found the overall look to be attractive. We were celebrating a birthday. Although it was fairly busy when we arrived at 6:30pm, we had reservations and we were welcomed with a flute of nice champagne and then seated immediately at a booth near the bar. The noise level was high. Although the house music was enjoyable it was just a tad too loud making conversation difficult without having to raise our voices. This loudness was not unique to our table location, it was throughout the restaurant and even the outside patio. I had to step out completely to the mall walk are in order to take a phone call. Our waitress greeted us quickly and served water to the table and gave us a time to look over the menus. Unfortunately from here service declined as it took a while (~5 minutes) for her to return to take our drink and appetizer orders. The appetizer we ordered was served within 5 minutes but our drinks took over 10 minutes which was a bummer. Drinks here are $expensive$ ! Be prepared for $20-$30 a cocktail with the minimum being $17. All of the drinks were on the sweet side but overall were good. We all agreed that our food was very good. I had the Prime New York Strip with Miso mushrooms ($88), my wife the Yellowfin Tuna Salad ($33) and our birthday guest had the Sake glazed Chilean Sea bass ($50). Overall we had a good evening however our waitress could have done a better job of checking in to see if we needed anything. We were at our table for a solid 2 hours which was fine but I really don't like having to flag down waitstaff to get something or get the bill at a high end ($100+/pp) restaurant. We were at our table for a solid 2 hours which was fine but I really don't like having to flag down waitstaff to get something or get the bill at a high end ($100+/pp) restaurant. We all agreed that our food was very good.
