I'm posting this as a heads up. There was a young lady standing outside of lindale Mall yesterday freezing and begging for money. I felt bad for this young lady so I initially gave her a $20 bill and went on about my business. After shopping inside the Hy-Vee I noticed that she was still out there freezing so we pulled up again and I told her to get into the truck and get warm and that I would also purchase a hotel for her to stay in on November 5th. I also gave her a pack of cigarettes and paid $80 cash and put the hotel room in my name and put a credit card on file for any incidentals. When we got to the hotel and the room was paid for, before she ever got out of the truck I said to her. since I did you a favor by keeping you in a warm place to sleep tonight, do me a favor and don't mess it up because my credit card is on file. She assured me that there would be no incidences. After getting to the hotel we found out that her name was Nicole Herrin.I called my cousin to confirm if it was the same homeless girl that she had helped out last year that took advantage of them and she is the one they gave me Nicole's last name. I then went on to look up her information on Facebook and sure enough it's the same girl. So this morning November 6th I called the hotel in Marion and explained to them what I had done oh, they immediately went to the room and evicted her along with another man that was in the room that I'd had no intention on paying for his stay also! After speaking with the hotel they said that a couple of their guests had recognized Nicole and told the hotel that she is known for leaving syringes in the rooms. I asked the hotel attendance to please keep an eye on her as she checked out of the room so that no damages would be done and they assured me that they would. about five minutes later I get a call back from the hotel room saying that they are charging my credit card $125 because they smoked in the room. So for having a good heart it cost me $225 and a pack of cigarettes. She is also a heroin addict. Be careful who you help, helping someone out can turn around to cost you more than you initially...
Read moreCurrently a guest at the microtel in Marion Iowa. Beyond disappointed in the staffing and the quality of the rooms. After driving for 13 hours we just wanted a decent room to crash in for the weekend. In less than 24 hours weve changed rooms 3 times. The first room we were in was filthy, the AC was left on and it was 58 degrees when we came in. So like any normal person would do, I put the heat on. Not even a second later the smoke alarm starts going off in our room and it smells like a dead animal is being burned. I go down to complain, the front desk wasn't even around so I picked up the phone to alert them and she comes in cranky as ever. I explain what happened then she proceeds to look at me like I'm whining and my concerns mean nothing, they make us move from our top floor room, to bottom floor room. Where we slept on a rock hard bed with ungodly pillows that made a good night's sleep seem impossible. The shower barely worked and there was water leaking under the sink. I spoke to a man, I believe it was Bryan but I'm not 100% on that and he was awesome. Upgraded our room and was very apologetic and kind to us about the situation. Great right? We get to our third new room, second floor, and the whole floor reeks of cigarette smoke. This was at 11am. Still reeks. Well, we went out to do our business in town and come back to find that everyone of the workers are outside. The phones ringing off the hook. And they're just laughing and giving people dirty looks. Our tub is on and filling with water, which.....we haven't touched the tub... What the heck? I certainly won't be returning to this branch of hotels ever again. If it wasn't for that one front desk man (Bryan?) I'd of left a long time ago. On a scale of one to five: Housekeeping 2 Maintenance 3 Staff courtesy 1 (except for Bryan who was a 5! Very professional) Room size - small but for the low prices, it's not to bad. I'd say 3/4
For someone without kids and who just needs a quick place to crash this may be for you. But if you expect professionalism and cleanliness to any extent, spend an extra 10$ and go somewhere a little...
Read moreRoom was incredibly humid. The bathroom fan turned on, but did not clear out any of the humidity after showering. Every surface in the bathroom would be slick— the walls, counter, door. Everything. Only redemption from this downfall was the fact that the windows open. But still didn’t help much. Went to bed both nights feeling sticky. Breakfast was nothing to be desired. Only “hot” item was waffles via the generic hotel waffle makers you usually see. Other than that, only had cereal, muffins, oatmeal etc. and all of that was usually gone by 8:30 (breakfast is from 6-9:30). A few from our group came down at 9:15, and all the breakfast food had been cleared away. When asked if they could bring it back out since breakfast didn’t technically end until 9:30, the hotel employee let out an exasperated sigh and said “but then I’d have to clear it all out again in 15 minutes!” And refused to serve them, along with a few other couples that came looking for food. She was quite rude about it. You’d probably have a better shower from a garden hose rather than in one of their showers. Rooms were rather small. Yes, I know— they are supposed to be small. But one family in our group has an infant, and they could hardly fit her travel bed in the room. I really don’t see the point of advertising a hotel with small rooms. Who the hell wants that? Walls are not insulated enough. You can easily hear people in the rooms next to you talking. Condition of the rooms were marginal. Damaged walls, flaking paint, etc. Seemed fairly clean though. The WiFi was absolute garbage. Even when it did work, it was slow. But for 80% of the two days we were there, it did not work. You could connect, but it just wouldn’t do anything. Get used to buffering wheels and connection errors. Let me just clarify that I did not choose this hotel. Nor would I have if given the option beforehand. You definitely get what you pay for— hardly anything. Will not...
