General CONS: Rooms may vary, but expect crumbling. Skeleton staff & Limited Service & Amenities. Very Dusty, dirty bar tables, peeling wallpaper, chipped floor tiles, dirty windows and glass, all in public area. But overall, looked pretty tidy. Trash on grounds and over-flowing trash cans. Restaurant only open for breakfast with a fixed overpriced breakfast of sorts. Small snack shop and sundries offerings, no public microwave. Key card non-operable at back patio door. non- secured hotel entry at night, which is dangerous for staff and guests. (but i think this is because of open bar, whomever can come and go.
ROOM CONS:
Door did not seal properly ( fire hazard). Hole in wall. Stain on ceiling. Cracked caulking along tiles and a smidgen of mold in bathroom at floor and tile. Filthy carpet, dirty and stained. i used flip flops. Worn wood and wobbly desk. No tv menu and no on demand video. No menu of hotel amenities. no microwave. No room service. Limited housekeeping, must ask for any items, only cleaned after 4 nights or 5th day. Dirty windows. Bedding is down feathers comforter and saggy pillows or ask for foam and blanket, not good bedding either way. Bed was ok, not great. Noisy highway, bring earplugs or run fan. I had to run fan all night. the register was dilapitated. My allergies did not do well in this room. Probably, bad air-filtration.
GENERAL PROS:
Secured elevator entry. Fast response from hotel maintenance, housekeeping items and front desk. Full bar in evening with a menu. Comfortable lobby and bar seating with faux candles. soda and ice machine on room floors. Free newspaper and morning coffee. Clean lobby bathrooms. Hand sanitizer stands. Friendly staff. Comfortable building temperature. Outside patio and front benches. Generally, a safer area of St. Louis. Tucked away property.
ROOM PROS:
Clean bathroom! Great water pressure and temperature. Air temperature wall control was great. Good lighting. Nice towels. Nice soaps. Mini- Cooler only (NOTE: Not refrigerator temp). TV swiveled. Accessible plug-ins. full length mirror. Nice Desk chair and big desk, but no mirror at desk. Clock/Alarm. Blackout drapes and sheers. Room Safe. Hangers. Ironing board and iron. Hairdryer. Coffee maker ( Note: only for hotel coffee packet). Ice-Bucket. Sofa was comfy, but no ottoman or coffee table, no table at all for use on either side. Bathroom was one person only.
I think this hotel is suffering from the effects of Covid, the economy, corporate restraints and is struggling to keep up with cleaning and remodeling. Overall, I think they are doing what they can, however some extra cleaning tasks during slow hours, may need to be added to some job descriptions.
I will give 2 stars for in- room safe, clean bathroom, water pressure, lighting, secured elevator entry, the friendly staff and a safer location in the St.Louis area. But really this is not a very well maintained hotel and needs copius amounts of TLC. Probably varies from room to room. Check your room, before moving in to it. We stayed for various reasons, but I would have moved after the first night, however I chose to buck up, for this one trip.
This hotel is not for me, but it may be for you if on a strict budget and you want a hotel bar, in a...
Read moreWhen we checked in I asked the lady at the desk if breakfast was free. She said yes, because I am a Hilton rewards member it would be free for my family any I.
We got to our room and there were dirty towels in the bathroom, the night stand had dirt, dust, or skin flakes all over it, the carpet was soaking wet by the window, and the table had dirt all over it.
The restaurant had a posted opening time of 4pm. It was 430pm so we went down to eat and they were closed. There were other families down there as well looking to eat. We then left the hotel to find something else.
When we came back I stopped at the desk and mentioned how dirty our room was. The guy there offered to move our room to a better one. I again asked if breakfast was free for us and he said yes it was.
We packed up our room and moved to the next one. This was the 8th floor now and the hallways had air conditioning running, they were freezing to walk through. The keys he gave us were not activated so I had to go back down to the lobby. The same guy I just talked to blamed the previous girl, said she never moved our rooms or activated our cards....he had no record of us going to the new room.
The new room was better but there were stains all over the blankets. The whole reason I picked this hotel was for the hot tub and pool so we went down there to swim. The pool room was 65 degrees and the pool itself was freezing. The hot tub was blocked off and had garbage thrown in it. There was a dirty bandaid floating in the pool and the plants around it were all knocked over. The water itself was freezing, only one of us could actually stand it and that was only for about 10 mins and she too gave up. The water temp was less than the air temp, she had to come out of the pool to warm up. There were outlets pulled away from the wall with exposed wires. Totally unsafe, especially around water.
The next morning we got up and there was no hot water at all to our room. It wasn't even warm. Someone at the front desk mentioned they "forgot" to have the water turned on to that floor. We went down for breakfast and the hostess asked us how we were going to pay. I said we were free. She said no, they don't do that anymore. I said 2 people the day before told us we would be free. She again told us we would have to pay and went to call the front desk. She got off the phone and restated we would have to pay. I told her that I felt like if we were promised something that they should honor it. She again said no.
On the way home I got an email with the bill. I had a Hilton Rewards free night stay certificate that I had used to book this room that I turned in when I checked in. The bill stated that my credit card was charged full price and that the certificate was not honored.
Overall, the worst hotel experience my family has ever had. The website for the hotel was not updated with the restaurant hours or the fact that the hot...
Read moreZero stars! I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND! If you plan on staying at the DoubleTree Hotel Westport in St. Louis, MO to visit the indoor pool, DO NOT bother. Long story short, IT’S ROACH infected and I’m still shaken up about what my family and I endured and how we were treated. Short story long…continue to read. My mom, my daughter (11), my son (5 months), and I decided to spend some family time at the pool before my mom headed back home to AZ the next morning. We walked into the indoor pool room, sat our belongings on the table and chairs and got in the pool. My daughter swam as we sat on the steps in the water. My mom pointed out a small roach crawling on the edge of the pool. She killed it with a flip flop. A few minutes later my daughter got out to go grab her towel and saw more roaches running on the pavement. At that point, we decided to leave. We went back to grab our belongings and they were everywhere! On my son pool float that was on the ground, on my jacket that was on the chair, running across the cell phone that was on the table! So we left the belongings there because I didn’t even want them anymore! We literally left in just our swimsuits! I went to the front desk trying to be calm and discreet because there were customers sitting in the lobby and at the bar. The front desk person (Jaylah) called the general manager (Dan) to come check it out. Jaylah walked into the pool room and I waited outside the door. She laughed on the phone with the GM telling him we were just trying to get free stuff and she didn’t see anything. She came back out and told me the GM was on his way down. I walked back in the pool room with the maintenance guy (Jon) who got my key out the jacket pocket (because I couldn’t bare to touch it) and he proceeded to spray the pool room with raid bug spray. While this is happening, the GM (Dan) walks in with an attitude asking what happened. I started to tell the story while pointing to where we were sitting and he jumped back and told me I can tell the story without using my hands as if he was threatened by my action of pointing. He then grabbed the clothing that I said I no longer wanted and told me I would not be reimbursed for them (as if I asked) and walked out. Jon apologized on the GMs behalf and helped me get my baby stroller and bag because that was all I wanted. The GM didn’t walk us out, apologize, NOTHING. He was very rude and I’ve never been treated so poorly in my life. I was not trying to get anything for free because YOU CAN’T PAY ME to ever step foot in that roach fest of an establishment ever again. The audacity of the conversation they had when they thought no one was listening is a defamation of character and a piss poor way of treating customers who still tried to save face for you by whispering in the lobby when I didn’t have to. If you view the camera footage, it supports everything I’ve written here....
