Sunshine Draperies, Blinds, Shades & Shutters — Local services in Maryland Heights

Sometime ago I went to Sunshine Drapery & Interior Design to select some roller shades for a sliding glass door at my house. The woman I worked with there was very helpful in selecting the color/design (she later told me she was an Interior Decorator) for the shades, and I provided her with dimensions for the slider. I specified bronze hardware with black end caps. She placed the order and I paid ½ the price upfront. Weeks later when the shades arrived at another Sunshine Drapery location, I had the sales lady open the package to check that the material was correct (it was) and noticed the hardware was white, not bronze. I said “The hardware is supposed to be bronze.” She smiled and said “Yes. Bronze.” although she could plainly see it was white. Suspicious now I took the shades home to see if there were any other issues and found (after performing the installation ourselves – this was not offered by Sunshine Drapery) that the width dimensions were not enough to cover the windows or the roller mechanism making them conspicuous against the brown window frame. When I brought the shades to the store to complain I found out that, contrary to their standard operating procedure, they had not sent someone to my house to take their own measurements (sliders are tricky). When I stated I wanted my money back I was reminded that it was specified in the contract that no cancellations would be accepted. I was told that I owed it to Sunshine Drapery to let them make it right. However, at that point I thought there were so many things wrong with what should have been a simple order, I decided not to throw good money after bad and walked out. I write this, not in the hope of recovering any money, but as a caution to you. Stay away from these guys – they don’t know what they are doing! Months later I went to Budget Blinds. They sent someone out to take their own measurements, helped me select a fabric and hardware and then installed the shades themselves. They look great and all for ½ the price of...

In search of a privacy solution for a sliding patio door, we had a general notion of shade preference but wanted to avoid the frustration and uncertainty of shopping & self-selecting at a big-box store. This is the third or so time I have used Sunshine Drapery over the years, and they never disappoint! My designer, Catherine, was a joy to work with!! She understood what I wanted (even when I didn’t), and she was so very helpful. She was also very accommodating to my needs. She responded immediately anytime I reached out to her. What was really fun was that Catherine arranged for me to meet the seamstress who was making my shades personally. This was really nice because it gave me an opportunity to speak directly with her and I was no longer nervous about how my shades were going to look when finished. As for the installer, Mike, well I can’t say enough about him! He was extremely nice, very personable, and most professional.
