🏨 Sheraton Westport Chalet in St. Louis: The Hotel Horror Show!🏨
Once upon a chilling night in St. Louis, our family embarked on an adventure to celebrate my son's 10th birthday during a hockey tournament. Little did we know, we were in for a stay that would rival any epic comedy drama set in a hotel that was disgusting, unsafe, and without copitant staff.
🌆 Act 1 - The Filthy Chamber of Surprises: Our hotel saga began in a room that seemed plucked from a horror film. As we entered, the scent of mystery wafted through the air. It didn't take long to discover the source—dirty brown stained towels lurking in drawers and a fridge harboring the remnants of someone's broccoli soup. The pièce de résistance? Sheets stained beyond belief. The water faucet became our nemesis, transforming showers into a game of roulette, scalding the kids and us with its unpredictable temperature swings. To add to the absurdity, the lights in the lobby flicker, casting an eerie glow over the chaos.
🌬️ Act 2 - The Chilly Comedy of Errors: After a bone-chilling Blues hockey game, we eagerly returned to the hotel, only to be greeted by a frigid 58 degree slap in the face. The 2nd room's heating had decided to take a vacation of its own on an 8-degree night. We were left shivering and incredulous. It was time to switch rooms again, but we were determined to stay in high spirits as the kids shuffled at midnight to yet another room with me pushing 2 luggage carts full of equipment across the hotel, again.
🏠 Act 3 - The Tower of Chaos: Our final destination was in a different tower, promising a change of scenery. What we found was a room perched right outside a construction zone, with a symphony of jackhammers and drills. The public restrooms, conveniently lacking soap, added a touch of absurdity to our stay. But the grand finale was yet to come. The hair dryers never worked, and rooms lacked TV remotes, leaving us in the dark both figuratively and literally.
🎁 Act 4 - The Disastrous Bag Mix-up: Just when we thought the comedy had reached its peak, a plot twist awaited us. They decided to clean our second room before we could retrieve all our belongings in the middle of the night. In then process they wadded up our clean clothes hanging on a hanger into a bag with dirty clothes and gave it to a random family on our team. (Embarrassing !) In addition they threw out our kids' party and hockey game stuff leaving us empty handed and late to our hockey game in the morning. Our son's 10th birthday became a tale of lost treasures, sleepless nights, and disappointed kids all thanks to this hotel's mishaps.
🤢 Curtain Call - The Verdict: To top it all off, this entire comedy of errors came at a hefty price. The hotel was expensive, and the value received was non-existent. If I could give this place negative stars, I would in a heartbeat. The only thing that could have gone worse was to be stuck in the elevator, which almost happened when the power went out in the hotel.
In conclusion, the Sheraton Westport Chalet in St. Louis provided a theatrical experience like no other. If you're a fan of dark comedies and bizarre plot twists, this might be the place for you. But if you value your sanity, belongings, time, and happiness, consider exploring other accommodations.
The show must go on, but your vacation shouldn't follow...
Read moreMy wife, toddler, and I drove in from Maryland for a local training course. We were looking forward to a nice hotel room to stay in for 3 days. They were looking forward to using the pool as well. We stayed in Room 264 in the Chalet.
We found the hotel room was disgusting and dirty. The tile and carpet made the bottom of our feet black, to include my toddler, within minutes of walking barefoot in the room. Our toddler could not crawl or walk around because the floors were so disgusting, and we had to keep her confined in her pack and play during the stay. We mopped the tiled floor with water and towels and they were black.
The bathroom ceiling had black mold growing above the shower. The tiled shower had grime and mold on the grout.
The minifridges both had tons of mold, not just a spot, on the seals and throughout the interior. The shelving was gross and sticky. We had to personally clean out the fridges to store food and bottles for our baby.
I had to repeatedly ask for toilet paper bc we only had one roll in the room.
There was an old smashed spider baked onto the glass balcony sliding door.
There were shaved men's hairs all over the bathroom sink and counter, the toilet, and the shower.
The left elevator was breaking down constantly. One of my colleagues got stuck in it for a bit one morning and was late to training. My wife and I had to take the stairs bc the elevators were out of service one evening. A manager let us up the service stairs because the elevator was broken.
None of the light fixtures in the room and television remote appeared to be dusted and/or clean. The remote had grime and dirt on it. The telephone was disgusting and dirty.
The interior of the coffee pot was dirty and moldy.
I went down to get coffee on Monday morning at 8am and there was no coffee left, nor was there anyone to contact.
Pictures were taken for all of these observations.
I, as well as my collegues, advised the company that I was training with to never use this hotel again and of our issues. Other colleagues had lots of other issues with cleanliness of the rooms, and other issues
We intend to contact the Missouri Dept of Health about our experience, and post a review to Yelp and Google.
I do not desire to stay at this hotel ever again and the experience was horrible, and disgusting. I will recommend to others to find other hotels in the area.
We did not complain to the staff because we had a lot of baggage in the room and it would have been difficult to repack and move, after having driven for 13 hours. Talking to other colleagues, I learned their rooms were also in the same condition or worse off bc of noxious odors from the plumbing, food crumbs in their sheets, showers that were hot and ice cold, and unclean, so it did not appear moving was a good option. We cleaned up our room as best we could and tolerated it for the duration of the stay.
The stay was billed at $469 to stay in these disgusting and...
Read moreShocked at all reviews above 2 stars. Had to stay here for a kids sports event. When we were informed that there would be no daily housekeeping I wasn't shocked as Marriot has struggled post-lockdown to maintain an acceptable level of service. What did surprise me is that, besides the beds being made, it appears that there has been no housekeeping since 2020. Where to start?
Outside - Appears to be built in the 1960's and never updated. Complete with noticeably chipped paint and boarded up windows on first and second floor. The grounds were unmaintained and/or under construction, and I noticed several vagrants wandering through the parking lot.
Lobby - Dated circa 1990's - chipped marble floors worn wood furniture. The worst part was the insane amount of air freshener throughout the common areas that made it nearly impossible to breathe. Front desk staff varied. One day very friendly, another day slow and impersonal.
Room - Had requested fragrance free due to allergies. Bedding was clearly sprayed with some kind of Febreze type product. Whole first floor Smelled of mold. Bathroom was comically tiny. You could turn on the shower and sink while using the toilet and the ceiling was so low that anyone taller than 6' would have to duck to shower. Speaking of shower - had two very cold showers. not sure if they ran out of water or I was fighting the room next to me for hot water. Drain was clogged and the soap scum in the tub compelled me to wear flip flops in the shower. Hair and pee on the toilet, grime and hair in the corners of the chipped floors, Countertop cracked and stained. Wallpaper dirty and peeling. Towels gray and frayed. Room was equally as dirty. Dusty lamps and surfaces, carpet old and unvacuumed. Furniture chipped and worn. Large dirt spots on walls.
I was going to request a room change, but when another family asked me if I also found blood on my sheets, I figured it could be worse.
Marriott has never been able to honor my special allergy requests and it's one chain that refuses to use fragrance free laundry detergent, but this hotel must add extra perfume (to cover the age?) which made breathing nearly impossible, by the time I checked out, I felt like I had a 20 lb weight on my chest. If you're allergic to mold and perfume, you'll also have a miserable stay.
Never been a fan of Sheraton hotels even 40 years ago when they were considered upscale, but this one is pretty bad. Some say that age doesn't define hotel quality, but in this case, it was a very clear indicator. If you're attending a conference or sports team event that requires your stay, think twice about going and if you must, do NOT stay on the moldy first floor. If you have allergies, you'd be better off sleeping in your car and showering at a truck stop (it'd...
