Picture it. Kahului, pre-2018. Sunday night. You're hungry. The majority of restaurants are closed. Your choices? Fast food or Zippy's. Sad.
Now picture it. Kahului, July 2018. The lovely folks of the Maui Food Technology Center, a non-profit organization that brings together local farmers, students and entrepreneurs with the food industry, has started the Maui Sunday Market. Like its name implies, it happens every Sunday from 4pm - 8pm at the Kahului Shopping Center's parking lot fronting Kaahumanu Avenue. Entry is free and parking is plentiful.
ATMOSPHERE: There were four rows of food trucks, food stands and vendors of all sorts. A small, covered seating area is available though seating was at a premium. Entertainment changes weekly, I believe. Unfortunately (for me and my gang) there is no beer garden. I arrived around 6:15pm and it wasn't too crowded, though I had a good 30-minute wait at the food truck I tried.
FOOD TRUCKS & STANDS: I'm not sure if the vendors rotate but I read in the paper that there's a wait list for food trucks that want in on the action.
OVERALL: What a terrific idea to give residents (and tourists) more dining and entertainment options since the two malls in the area...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love this place. It has so many options in one spot and it's kinda a locals spot more than a touristy option. Lots of the vendors here are small business owners so they really put there Hart and soul in to the food or products. They have everything from local BBQ to southern style BBQ you can also get some great Hawaiian plates or food to Puerto Rican food. There are vendors with local made sweets and treats and some people with local made jewelery and some with plants for sale. It is a great option for family night , date night or just to grab some good locally made food. Check it out if you get some time. I don't think you will be sorry. Just make sure you bring some cash most but not all the vendors take cards. And don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone with the food. Lots of stuff is really good. Well till next week. See...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLocal āfarmers marketā style eating place. A lot of different options of food trucks available. If the weather is nice, outside eating would be relaxing with your friends and family. There are different food options available. But unfortunately not everybody accepts credit card. So try to keep some cash too. I ate a crape, and my friends ate some Thai, both were mediocre. However, my husband took a platter of BBQed meat and rice, which was better. I felt most of the foods are little expensive, but given the leverage to local business, I think that is acceptable. I wish I would have taken pictures š„to...
