I’ve visited Maui for about the 10th time, always staying with family, however with COVID-19 that wasn’t an option so my partner and I decided to stay at Nona Lani Cottages. ||||The funny thing is, it felt like I was staying with family by the end of it :)||||Staying in Nona Lani Cottages was amazing! We stayed in Cottage #5, one of the garden view cottages and it had everything a couple needed for a week of relaxation and exploration. Full kitchen, mirrors, bed, massive shower and bathroom, the lana’i (porch) was awesome for breakfasts, and it’s proximity to the beach is unbeatable. It’s located in the quieter area of Kihei, so at night if you leave your windows open, you can hear the waves crashing on the sand.||||I mentioned close proximity to the water, and I mean less than 30 seconds away. All we had to do was cross one street with our boogie boards and hit the waves just like that. And we even saw a turtle up close in the water, and whales off in the distance. And with the location being westward facing, the sunsets are remarkable! Also if you plan to snorkel - some of the best spots in Maui are literally 15 minutes away, which makes getting up in the morning to beat the crowds not too tough at all! ||||The property itself is not what you expect if you’ve ever stayed on Maui or in Kihei before. Each of the 8 cottages are a good distance from each other, and this privacy is worth every cent. We stayed in another location on this same trip and the noise of neighbors above and next to us was unbearable. The cottages truly give you a place to recharge, find yourself, and relax. There are lounging chairs available to sunbathe on, picnic tables and bbq’s if you’re thinking of cooking some fresh fish outdoors, and beautiful gardens to look at local and native plant life! Also, depending on the season, fresh fruit might be available - our cottage had a banana tree that probably was going to be ripe in 2 weeks. Some other plus sides are the on site laundry facilities, outdoor shower on our cottage was awesome to rinse off the sand from the beach, and parking was right on site. ||||I would equate staying here to staying at a home away from home. The people at Nona Lani Cottages treat you like family (and it’s family owned and operated for 50 years!), and so don’t hesitate to ask them any questions. I can’t imagine visiting Maui and staying anywhere but here when I’m not staying with my own family, because these people made us feel like family.||||Mahalo to Elena, Val, and of course Nona for making us...
Read moreI am going to write a really honest review because that is what I like to read. We stayed at these cottages (cottage #5) 11/10/2023 - 11/16/2023. I want to start by saying that Maui was extremely crowded and that is not on the cottages, I thought maybe because of the fire there would be less people but the west side was packed with people. When we arrived the staff was polite and told us about the cottages, when we opened the door I was a bit disappointed as it was not what the pictures appeared. We had a garden view which was quaint and pretty. The cottage was VERY clean and had all the ammentites fridge, stove, etc. However the coffee maker was very small and my husband and I are coffee drinkers, they probably should have a single cup maker in there then you make as much or as little as you like. We even thought of buying one and leaving it behind but I said not at almost $350 a night. There were towels, but I had to call for extra towels and dish towels, the shower is Huge that's a positive, but the toilet was very difficult to flush sometimes you had to flush it 3-5 times to get it to flush, not how I wanted to spend my vacation battling a toilet. The living room was not comfortable at all, there is a futon bed which was very difficult to get comfortable on and no end tables, so we wound up pulling the dinning chairs over as end tables for drinks, snacks, etc. also no lighting except for the overhead fan light. The TV was ok but you only get maybe 2 channels that were not public channels, be prepared to watch every episode of Friends and the news, we did get HGTV so as a Realtor that was nice. There is no TV in the bedroom, now I know you re in Hawaii and why would you want a TV in the bedroom, well my husband and I are older we don't drink and we like to watch the news before we go to sleep, this is a personal preference I know. We were told that there would houskeeping on our 3rd day there was never any housekeeping. The location is across the street from the beach, but is a major street in fact the main st thru Kihei so there is alot of traffic and noise and at night could be dangerous to cross. ||All in all I would not stay at this facility again and would never stay in Hawaii without a pool again, but I knew there was no pool so that is on me. If you go into staying here expecting more of an Air BnB feel then you won't be too surprised, I didn't expect a luxurious resort but at that price I did expect the toilet to work and it be...
Read moreThe cottages have a wonderful location. Very simple parking. Easy to pull off of the street and on. During my vacation at this place I found it to be kind of junkie. There was never enough hot water to bath. The water was cold. Ugh! A cold shower every day. Everyday! Cold shower! The kitchen did not have enough utensils to fully cook a meal. We ran out of paper towels and toilet paper. The sheets are far below average. Our bed Was a joke. The most uncomfortable bed I have slept in since I was a young teenager. Certainly not for an adult by any means. The place was just cheap. The most uncomfortable bed I have slept in since I was a young teenager. Oh, I said that already. Certainly not for an adult by any means. The place was just cheap. Someone came up to our private cottage at 9 PM use the garden hose to water the neighboring cottage three nights in a row. This was disturbing and invasion of privacy. Very unusual. We had the same towels for over a week. We had to do our own laundry there is not a service to come clean your room. Interesting enough there’s construction going on at both units next to where we were staying it started early in the morning and ended about 5 PM at night. There’s construction debris all over the place. We were never told about the construction until we checked in. It was very noisy and ongoing and continuous through our entire stay. Ugh! After the construction guys would leave for the day I’d go out and pick up the junk and plastic that was going to blow into the ocean. I started doing this while I was sitting out one morning and noticed a beautiful bird fly down and start eating a piece of plastic bag. I decided that was gross and something had to be done. This was now my daily morning routine. The BBQ was dirty the first day we arrived. It was never cleaned and we were never able to use it. It’s an old dilapidated built up brick piece of concrete that was in a inconvenient location. That was dirty the whole time we were there!! The trees are beautiful here, chickens are fun to watch. And what can be better than having the beach directly across the street. Will choose accommodations elsewhere next time. Thank you, Google for giving us a chance to place our opinion out there for others...
