For a 5 Star Hilton Property and highest level HGV destination it is not meeting my expectations
Don't be fooled by the pretty pictures Don't spend your Money or your points for substandard poo facilities and beach, which is why you are staying here.
After two days I have learned a very important fact about Maui, it has Wind and puts out wind advisory's, almost every day of the year. And when an advisory is posted pool umbrellas are not available. Who would have guessed an island in the Pacific could have winds, even high winds and gusts. So if you go to the pool don't expect to have any shade available. I have been at the pool for almost 3 hours and the palm trees have not moved more than a leaf shimmering in the breeze. After an hour of no wind, i put up my umbrella, and within 15 minutes, good camera monitoring, the director came by and advised there is a high wind advisory and umbrellas are not available for use today.
I am not sure how a resort that is built on an island where wind is a constant does not have a process to allow umbrellas on any day and if/when the wind does pick up, take the umbrellas down. I understand caution and safety and protecting the guests from themselves. However, I believe they are taking this a little to far.
So you have no ability to get out of the sun, what's the solution, go to the pool bar and spend your money.
I bought into the hype of a big sprawling pool with cabanas all around the pool. There are 6 cabanas by the main pool. And they are shared spaces with very worn couches and furniture. We don't need TVs. We need nice and clean lounge furniture. There are additional cabana like spaces by the main building. Not sure why, they would better serve the pool.
I was expecting a beach club with a pool and full beach access. After walking across the property and the very busy road (with cross walk). The beach club has a bar & cafe with basic food choices and drinks. The club house is a comfortable space with nice chairs and the ability to sit inside or out on the lani.
If you want a towel, you must go by the main pool towel stand to get your 4 and 4 only towel allocation. No towels available at the beach club.
The Beach is another story, access via the club area has no SAFE walkways from the hillside down to the beach. The paths are worn paths from people climbing down the hillside. If you don't have good footing don't attempt the climb down the hill. There are no chairs on the beach. No services of any kind. Once you are on the beach there is nothing. The beach is dirty sand, most likely from the construction nearby. Don't look for blue water here.
You climb up the hill to take a rinse off shower, not here. There is a beach side pool, very nice feature, and there is a shower, which is partially operational (today). However if you are coming up from the beach on the other side of the club house you have a good block long walk to get to the pool and shower.
The pool is nice with plenty of chairs and the water is well maintained. But there is a wind advisory so no umbrellas and you get to stay in the sun.
Now back to the main pool, lots of great areas with different pool types, wading, shallow, water decks, plunge pool, and some slides. The lounge chairs and side tables are a good quality, but are showing the wear and tear of age.
Perhaps constructing shade pergola around the pool would offer an alternative to umbrella.
If you are looking for a nice room with very comfortable furniture and quality beds, this is a good place. If you are looking for a 5 star resort I would...

We stayed in a two story building by the beach. ||The grounds are very peaceful. We appreciated that the pools were relatively uncrowded. The water slide is lots of fun! There is an activity room and a good fitness center. There are multiple gas grills with picnic tables outside of the rooms. We participated in yoga (Mon - Fri at 8 am) and aqua zumba. ||It was pretty easy to drive to other parts of Maui as the resort is fairly centrally located. ||The beach is quick hop, skip, and a jump across a two-lane road. The beach is an uncrowded narrow strip of sand sheltered from the road by a fore-down. We really enjoyed repeatedly walking a mile up the beach to a small shopping complex with a farmer's market, an ABC Market, the excellent Sugar Beach Bake Shop, and the amazing Ululani's Shave Ice. Unfortunately, the line gets very long at Ululani's, but the shave ice there is life changing. If you head out early, you might see the Kihea Canoe Club in their outriggers. They even offer the opportunity to paddle with them. |In the opposite direction from the the ABC Market, and less than 1/2 a mile from the Hilton, there is the historically significant Kalepolepo Beach Park with an ancient Hawaiian fish pond that provides shelter for green sea turtles. The beach here is broader, and some people were splashing in the waves. This beach was also uncrowded. ||Cons:|The restaurant, bar, and snack bar have limited hours, but the restaurant location is quiet picturesque. We actually never used them, and just prepared most of our food in the room. There are some other restaurants nearby. ||I wish there were foot wash stations outside of the buildings. There is a beach just across the street from the resort so we often needed to wash off sand. We had to request a broom to sweep out the room.|The microwave door was sticky due to another guest not using it correctly. The washer and dryer were suffering from a surfeit of sand. |If you want a lively and crowded resort theme, this is not the place. Head to the resorts by Kaanapali beach for that or even Wailea. Honestly, the crowds were rather overwhelming at the Kaanapali resorts. Great beach there, though. ||Not gonna lie. The Kihei beach is not a great beach for swimming. There is a brown line from churned up sand. This area was hit by a bad flood about a month ago and there are several submerged trees that were washed out to sea so I would stick close to the shoreline. We drove to several other beaches for swimming and boogie boarding including Wailea, Kaanapali, and Polo. ||South Kihei Road is pretty busy, but it was easy enough to cross this two-lane road, and the traffic noise...
Read moreWe have nothing but positive things to say following our recent stay at the Maui Bay Villas. We arrived at the property around 11am due to our flight times. We were checked in and given pool cards and towel cards to use until our room was ready. At 1:30 we received a text that our room was ready. We let the bellhop know that we had a room and they delivered our bags and groceries to the room, even putting our cold groceries into the fridge for us!||We stayed as a family of 4, 2 adults 2 children, in a 2 bedroom resort view villa. The accommodations were excellent. The kitchen was well equipped with the basics of what we needed. There wasn’t any BBQ tools which was a little unfortunate but we were able to use the standard kitchen utensils when we used the grill. There was ample parking throughout the property. We were assigned building 9 which was close to the pool, lobby and other amenities. The only thing we found odd about the building was that there is only one elevator and it was on the opposite side of the building from the area where the pool was. As we were only on the 2nd floor we just utilized the stairs more often than not. It was not an issue for us but if you have limited mobility prefer the elevator it may be wise to request a room on the side of the building where it is located. ||We had daily cleaning service and they always left extra laundry soup, dishwasher tabs and plenty of towels.||My kids loved the pool and the slide. They were open when posted and the line was never too long. We never struggled to find a place to sit or play while at the pool. We did venture over to the Beach Club area and the beachside pool. It was quiet and private but not necessarily geared towards kids so we didn’t stay long. Had we been traveling without kids I imagine we would have spent a lot of time at that pool. It requires a special key to get in, available from the towel desk, and is a quick walk across the street. ||We bought hot lunches from the convenience store a few times and the food was delicious. The pool bar drinks were great and we really loved happy hour. There wasn’t a water fill station or cups in the Fitness Center but they did have a sign that water was available at the towel stand. ||The most notable memory from our trip was the tsunami warning that happened while we were there. The communication we received from Hilton was top notch. They sent text messages and answered our questions over the phone and in person. What could have easily ruined our trip is now just a fun story because of how well it was handled by Hilton and Maui officials. ||We were initially a little hesitant to book this resort based on some of the reviews we read here but we didn’t experience any of the problems others seem to have...
