This hotel is not as advertised. The hotel's website shows a beautiful wide sandy beach and while it is on the water, it is nowhere close to wherever that photo was taken. We checked into a hotel that advertised "on the beach" with a restaurant and bar. There is a bar area that looks like it has been abandoned. The restaurant is closed. Our room was over the main street and was noisy. The bed was comfortable, but that was the one highlight. There is nowhere to put your clothing--very small area for hanging clothes and no drawers for other clothes. The safe did not work (and I wouldn't recommend leaving any valuables in the room). The sink had no counter space at all and was in the small chamber with the non-closet.||We were told that the beach was not accessible from the hotel property, but we could go down to public beach (no lifeguards) by walking down the highway about 200 yards. We went there and it was a campground--the only people there were homeless and camping out. Not at all safe for families.||We checked out after 2 nights (supposed to be 5 nights). The hotel requires payment upfront so beware. After complaining, the owner called to offer us a cottage, but to be honest it would not have changed the fact that there was no beach access or a restaurant. He also offered for us to go to a beach club down the street but that wasn't offered to us to begin with and frankly, it looks like a shack and was not inviting at all. ||I would give this hotel 1 star and that is only because the bed was comfortable. The people at the front desk were very nice and I felt sorry for them since I'm sure they take most of the complaints. Note that this is not an inexpensive stay. We paid nearly $600 per night. I didn't expect it to be a resort, but I did expect more of what was on the hotel's website. ||I did check the reviews when I booked, but it was difficult to locate the bad reviews as they were hidden, but when I did fine them (once we arrived) they indicated the same experience that I am giving here. ||Cute town, but don't stay here. You can visit the town for a few hours and then go to Wailea in 40 minutes. It is more expensive, but...
Read moreI did a ton of research on upcountry hotels and this one kept coming to the top of the list. However, I can't say it fully met my expectations. We originally planned to travel in May 2020. We canceled due to the pandemic, but they retained our deposit. I understand that they are a small hotel, so I understood. This could be difficult for others who cannot reschedule. We used the deposit for travel this year, booking a deluxe hotel with town view. "Deluxe" is a strong word because the room was EXTREMELY tiny. Three of the four nights of our stay I showered in the evening and ended up with cool, borderline cold, water. When I showered in the morning on the last day, the water was warm. I believe being attached to a restaurant affected this. Speaking of restaurant, we ate there on the night we arrived. Unfortunately, my husband had food poisoning. We only had snacks on the plane, so it was definitely from the restaurant. Twice housekeeping came when we were still in the room (and we spent most of our time out of the room), so we only had cleaning services upon arrival and the day before we left. Our room desperately needed a coat of paint or two and the bathroom cleanliness could have been better. I was afraid to turn the ceiling fan on because of the dust I could see on it.
The positives. The hotel was in a great location in the middle of so much and accessible to so many activities that we had planned. We had a town room and it was noisy/lively, but didn't bother us at all. The private beach behind the property was lovely, peaceful, had turtles and beautiful sunsets. The lobby area was charming and the staff always greeted us upon arrival and departure. Basically, expectations are key. Recognize that this is a small hotel with a European feel without resort/luxury accommodations, but in a...
Read moreWriting a review to validate a handful of things that others have said that I chose to ignore! Also writing because this place (like all of Maui- is not cheap! I would be ok spending what I did to stay at Paia Inn if it made sense in terms of the value of what you get. I was looking to stay in Paia and the accommodations options are slim, but honestly should have just went with the hostel down the street. I was apprehensive based on reviews of this place but I had high hopes because it looked charming. The too long didn’t read is that this place seems like it was probably a very cool spot 7-10 years ago. It’s just honestly tired now. I get the rustic vibe but this place is just run down/neglected. The restaurant bar below is closed and those spaces look like they just have become storage for the place. You are charged a resort fee for some very sad amenity spaces. Outdoor furniture and decor that looks poorly maintained/broken. They provided access a few addresses down on Hana Hwy to access the beach through a “better way” where they “host weddings but just don’t have any reservations at the moment”. The place also looks like it hasn’t been touched in years and just feels neglected. Also just fyi, the walls are paper thin. Can literally hear people coughing in the next room. I really didn’t care about that because I sleep with earplugs but I’m sure a lot of people would mind that. The shower was also chipping pretty badly and needs a replacement. It’s a glorified hostel with resort prices. A couple positive things are the service. The front desk staff did assist me in opening up another parking spot when they were all full at night. The location is also nice...
