I was anxious to try this place, especially after seeing many articles and polls about how good the Chicken Fried Steak was. Did it live up to the hype? Eh...
So the good. The atmosphere. It's honestly amazing how good the interior looks. The work done to turn the old Furr's building into a completely unrecognizable brand spanking new environment is commendable. Very warm with lots of dark wood furnishings and mood lighting. That being said, it is dark inside, bordering on maybe too dark. There's a lot to look at, but sometimes it's hard to see.
The service. So, yes, this eatery is in the same vein as Hooters or Shenanigans or Bone Daddys, with very attractive waitresses in short shorts and cleavage baring plaid shirts. Your opinions on the appropriateness of these types of stores are up to you. However, our waitress was friendly and attentive without being flirty. I had an issue with my order, kitchen's fault, and she managed to get it taken care of. No real complaints.
The food. Oh boy, this is probably on me. This feels like a situation where I built up my expectations so sky high. It was doubtful it could live up to what was in my mind. We had fried pickles for starters. They were fine. Crispy and not too heavily breaded. As is the norm, had to ask for more ranch. My guest had the fish and chips, and again, it seemed fine. Crispy, but not too oily. Same for the fries. Finally, my chicken fried steak, the great hope. The dish that held all my expectations. So for the good, it's a big portion. It's actually 2 steaks over a bed of garlic mash potatoes with the skin mixed in. I also ordered a side of the "Adult Mac and Cheese." The steaks were fairly tender but not melt in your mouth. The breading was, unfortunately, softer than I like. There was a slight crispness, but not that flaky satisfying crunch I prefer. I always order gravy on the side. Twin Peaks calls their gravy "Jalapeño Gravy." I didn't notice any particular Jalapeño heat or flavor, but I preferred it that way. The potatoes were also fine. they needed salt and butter, though. Finally, the "Adult Mac and Cheese. I did not like this side at all. It's made with Tabasco sauce and that sour vinegar and spice just do not mix with the creamy pasta. It also upset my stomach later on in the day.
So, again, I'm probably a victim of my own expectations. I wanted greatness and got okayness. It's definitely worth going back and trying a different dish and different sides, but I'll taper my ideas a...
Read more🚫 Absolutely Horrible Experience at Twin Peaks – Never Again 🚫 901 Interstate Hwy 2, W Expy 83, McAllen, TX 78503 Date: 9/6/2025 We called ahead to confirm that Twin Peaks would be showing the UTRGV football game. They said yes, so my family and I packed up in our tailgate gear and went in excited. But from the moment we sat down, things started to unravel. First, we were told they wouldn’t be showing the game after all. Fine—I figured I could stream it on my phone while we ate. My daughter ordered BBQ chicken wings and fries, I had nachos, my wife a salad, and my niece tacos. Everything seemed normal until disaster struck. 👉 My daughter suddenly jumped up and ran to the restroom covering her mouth. When we looked at her plate, we saw an earwig crawling out from under her french fries. Yes—an actual bug in the food. I flagged down staff and got the manager, expecting him to take this seriously. Instead, his response was to pick up the tray and casually say, “It’s alive, so it’s fine—I’ll just replace it.” Are you kidding me?! That’s not how you handle a health hazard. We refused to finish our meals and drinks. The manager’s “solution” was to comp the fries and wings, tell us to “have a nice day,” and walk away. Meanwhile, multiple waitresses apologized and even admitted that management has been terrible. Other customers saw what happened, I showed them pictures, and people started leaving. The manager came back later still brushing it off, saying it could’ve come from anywhere. I told him, "Sorry, but earwigs don’t just appear in clean kitchens—if one made it to our table, there’s a bigger problem in the back". The manager's name was Joe Blas. I left furious. We should’ve gone to 5x5 Brewery in Mission—they had the game on, great service, and never once have we had an issue there. ⚠ Bottom line: Twin Peaks has a management problem and based on our experience, a bug infestation issue. If you care about food safety, your family’s health, or basic respect from management, stay away. If anyone knows someone at the Health Department, please share this. That place needs to be inspected...
Read moreMy first time ever going to Twin Peaks (TP) i wasn't impressed. It was four of us and the waitress was decent. She basically just did her job. Didn't make us really feel welcomed. Two weeks later a friend invited me to go watch the game at TP and as usual I got there early to get a table. I didn't request anyone because it's still new to me. I was greeted and seated. The waitress comes over and begins to tell me the specials. After she brings me my drink, she then starts talking to me about the place (TP) she actually began talking to me and genuinely seemed invested in our conversation. She was knowledgeable on the foods and even recommended a few. Brisa was her name. Fast forward the following week. I go back and ask for Brisa and was sat down at one of her tables. After being served by her approximately 30 minutes later she comes rushing to my table exclaiming why i was familiar to her and why didn't remind her it was me from last week. She had finally recognized me and got comfortable talking to me. Had another great night because of her. Not to mention that the beer was on point! Nice and cold! The following week friends invited me back to TP to watch a game and was helped by a different waitress (Brisa) had the day off. She tried the whole, "so how is your day" thing but it looked like she was forcing it. My friends showed up and we enjoyed the food, drinks and the game. Our waitress was to busy keeping a guy busy with her company. After the game we left. Then just yesterday (01/08/2024) about six of us got together for food and drinks there at TP. I asked for Brisa and right away she recognized me. It was a busy night full of customers but Brisa was on point with everything. We never had to wait long for drinks, food, refills, etc. Not only that but she was constantly going back and forth between customers. Needless to say, thanks to Brisa I have enjoyed my times at Twin Peaks and she definitely is the reason I will go back. Hospitality, cold beer, good food and a...
