Relatively decent price at 75 per night… Definitely could be less expensive
Super friendly and accommodating staff/owners who I think live here
Reasonably safe… So far
Cleanliness: I can see that the floor gets cleaned, but there are dust bunnies… I do yoga and when I put my mat down and I’m face-to-face with floor level, I can definitely see spiderwebs under the Air Conditioning and bunnies which would be more of a deep cleaning
Bathtub was clean sink are clean countertops and surfaces are mostly all very clean and appearance
The front door knob on the inside had smears and goo that must have been there for a long time… I had to wipe it down. It was so disgusting. My hand was sticking to the door knob very gross.
Front door does not close all the way, but has been adjusted so that it can mostly close. It stays about a half inch a jar from being in the door frame as it should. It appears the door has been kicked into previously as the molding around the door has a metal plate kind of secured over it.
The security latch at the top the bolts are completely loose on the door… If I had a Phillips head screwdriver, I would screw them down
Unit has a refrigerator that works great
The storage and shelving in this unit are over and above and beyond useful and functional… This was a nice surprise. There is no closet, but the hooks on the bench area are better than a closet.
Room comes with a little coffee, service and hairdryer
The desk area has a nice fashionable and usable, rolling chair
The nightstands are very useful, no drawers, but there are light switches and plugs on both sides of the bed… Super convenient
The decor is not my style, but it is relatively newer, looking and in really good shape compared to some of the five star posh places I have stayed in Texas. Not my style, but it is well appointed.
The curtains are very nice, blackout curtains… Again, not my style at all, but they do the job
The quiet AC i set at 60° I like it really really cold when I’m sleeping. And it got really really cold. It was wonderful. I had to turn it up during the day when I am inside the room doing things. It was too cold & this is august in TX!
The lights in the bathroom area are so bright. I skipped over to Walmart and bought a nightlight.
The location is so convenient to so many big box local stores and restaurants. You can literally go everywhere without getting on the highway… The location is right on the highway too.
The parking lot is convenient as the spaces are far enough apart that you do not have someone banging your vehicle when they get in and out.
Not sure exactly what’s going on with the cleaning crew, but apparently they sweep the upper floor debris down into the parking lot and the parking lot is never cleaned… There is all kinds of garbage Candy wrappers candy pieces of trash cigarette butts all over the entire parking lot. That’s kind of gnarly but for the other good points I’m happy to overlook that. It is so hot someone would have to come out in early morning to do this sweeping or late late evening. It is super hot here in McKinney Texas.
The bathtub looks new and clean. I will be taking a soak for sure. Oh, but you better bring your own flat bathtub drain stopper… There is a drain cat that will not allow a stopper to go into the drain, but you can use the flat reverse seal that goes across the top of the drain
The showerhead is good, even though it is really far away for short people like me who have really long hair… It worked pretty good to rinse my hair, and I didn’t have to stand there forever or run around in the bathtub trying to get drops to hit me… The showerhead is functional
The shower curtain is the kind that could be taken down and washed. It is totally clean
Plenty of towels and a decent towel rack
The paint in the room on the walls is in great condition. The only part of the room that seems to be a bit abused and deferred is the wall area next to the front door, the front door itself, and the door molding and hardware.
Overall, decent...
Read moreWe stayed 3 nights, and experienced some disturbing situational awareness concerns. I suspect the management here is looking the other way on (a few problematic activities I can't mention in a Google Review) two evenings in a row there appeared to be people in special clothing waiting behind the building, with their managers, for adult evening activities. On a separate event, one night of three we were awoken at 4:20am from a verbal altercation occurring in our next-door neighbor over a dispute involving another (problematic thing I can't mention in a Google Review). I wanted to mention that first, please decode as you will, because it's most important affecting your family's safety and comfort if you book here.
OK on to address our personal experience with the facility itself. At check-in, a sign on the lobby area indicates that breakfast is still canceled as of (July 2021) due to covid-19, which immediately struck me more as a cost-cutting measure that's misrepresenting the hotel listing itself which specified a continental breakfast when we booked.
When we first came to our room, there was a noticeable smell of urine on the balcony leading to our room, loose trash under the stairwell, and the balcony, and encountered our immediate neighbor was sitting in their room with the door 1/3 the way open, smoking a cigarette in a "non-smoking" room. To no surprise at that point, our "non-smoking" room, had it's own smoking odors, combined with the musky wet smell coming from the carpet(more on that below). There were cigarette burns in the carpets, furniture, and even on the AC unit, holes in the wall, and maintenance problems everywhere, after dropping a complementary bottle of soap next to the bed, looking for it under the night-stand we discovered scattered pieces of pet kibble. Since we spent three nights, the smell unfortunately has lingered on our clothes, the smell has followed us home on our luggage, extra blankets, and pillows, and have been particularly noticeable reminders of this room over the last few days every time we've hopped back into our car.
In addition to our room, the hotel itself is in critical physical condition.
The AC units were filthy and have clogged condensers which were dripping on the balconies, ours was special in that it was leaking INSIDE the room, our room had a continuously soaked carpet from a leak at the condenser, the soaked carpet was at the entrance reaching to the bed and extending under window.
There also seem to be potential structural problems with the hotel, specifically on the south balcony of the building, the stucco masonry has fallen off exposing rotting wood, and on the east balcony of the building there is a section with two 4x4 beams with wood shims shoring up a section of 2nd floor balcony. Scary stuff.
The only thing I can really say was ok, was that the management was quick to provided us extra coffee, blankets and towels when asked, the glaring problems being so obvious it is kind of pointless to complain on the spot about anything beyond the trivial because this hotel is completely out-of-control.
We chose the hotel because the prices were cheap, and it's in an great location, and the pictures of the facilities and room even tricked us into packing a swimsuit for the kids. Which is makes the contrast of staying here such a surprise, and so deeply disappointing. It is very conveniently located to visit friends who live in McKinney, Texas. (side note: kudos to whoever took the facilities photos, I was thoroughly sold by the judicious use of saturation, lens-selection, and angle you have an amazing future in real-estate photography).
This was hands-down the worst hotel experience I have had in my life courtesy of Days Inn by Wyndham in McKinney and my foolish decision to try and save $20-$30 a night on our short...
Read moreIf I could give this motel negative stars, I would. Buckle up, this is going to be long. I stayed here for 9 days. [TLDR: don’t stay here. It’s a rip off and you don’t get what’s on the website. I wouldn’t even let my worst enemy stay here. Going to another hotel wasn’t an option since this hotel doesn’t offer refunds for unused stay. So we were still there for a few more days. First impression: I pulled into the parking lot, and there is trash EVERYWHERE. Broken toilets just laying in the grass, mattress and box springs all over the place. I understand you’re renovating, but the way it’s being done makes the place look like a huge trash pile. Checking in: I should have turned right away and walked away the second the man and woman behind the counter were rude. Deposit was $50 then $10 per dog per day. The room itself: After checking in and getting my key card, I went to the room hoping to take a shower and relax. I opened the door to the room, and it was covered in crickets, and roaches. Dead and alive. I asked housekeeping for a broom so I could sweep the room. They ignored me and and I ended up going to Walmart and getting my own. I swept the room everyday multiple times a day just like clock work. The crickets getting in through the door that was so off alignment with the frame that it had to be shoulder checked line a linebacker to even open, and without it closing all the way, all you could hear was traffic, and every conversation of who ever was outside. The Microwave didn’t work, mini fridge wasn’t even cold. No matter how low I turned the air on, it just stayed a bad feeling temp in the room. I brought this up to both housekeeping and someone in the office. Nothing happened except them telling me “you have to give it time to adjust.” It didn’t adjust in 9 days, it was never going to Next day: I went to the lobby because their actual website and Expedia both advised they had a “free hot breakfast.” I thought “great, maybe this will turn the stay around.” NOPE. I got to the office, and the room where breakfast is supposed to be was closed off, full of toddler/small children toys, stroller. It’s like it was a daycare for the hotel staffs kids. They handed be a brown paper bag with a banana and a individually wrapped muffin. It was so disappointing. Take it off your website if you aren’t really doing it as part of the stay. I don’t swim, but the swimming pool area is fenced off really good, BUT, there was so much trash and busted dry wall there, so much so the trash trailer they had in the back of the hotel was overflowing. Day 2: No housekeeping was done, which is 100% understandable since it was just one night. Through out the 9 days, housekeeping knocked on my door one time. That was only done because they were checking on the wrong room. After day 4 I wanted new sheets. I had to hunt down house keeping to get them. I changed them myself. Housekeeping did absolutely nothing to my room the whole time I was there. Night 2: this is a non smoking inside hotel. Great, we love that, but they don’t go around enforcing it. The room a little further down from us was selling drugs left and right. Every 20 minutes or so during the day time, there would be a knock, at the door, an exchange would happen and the person would quickly drive away. I only know this because I was asked by those occupants if I knew anyone who needed “tree.” The weed smell so so strong when they would leave the hotel room that my dogs could smell It, and we were 4 doors down from them. There was also someone operating a full blown tattoo shop in his room. This was a daily happening here. The cycle repeated ALL NINE DAYS. I will never stay here ever again. Who ever is in charge to this hotel from...
