I decided to give my wife and mother a gift for mothers day and bought them a gift card from this place. It was 1 full body massage each (deep tissue) for each of them ($140). I came in to Royal day Spa a few days earlier and paid for the gift card, and told the front desk lady that It was meant as a surprise for my wife and mom. I expressly told them it was a gift for them for mothers day.
ON mothers day weekend, I gave my wife the gift card and arranged for a driver to drop them off. She presented it to the front desk lady and both went in for their massages which was supposed to last 1 hour. My wife said the massage barely lasted 45 minutes, in addition, while they were leaving, the therapist asked them for more money which was never discussed when I purchased the gift card from THEM. They said it was supposed to be for the tip. Imagine giving someone a gift on a gift card and when they get there, telling them they have to pay for it?
This was a mothers day surprise for them, and they were not supposed to pay anything as I had already taken care of it by buying the gift card. My wife and mom were basically verbally harassed for this tip until my wife called me on the phone. I was very embarrassed by it as I felt that they ruined what was supposed to be a pleasant experience for my mom and wife for mothers day by haggling over something which was never mentioned in the first place.
I would advise readers of this review to go elsewhere. There are too many great massage spots in the DFW metroplex to subject yourself to embarrassing treatment. Stay away from this place...I wish I paid attention to the reviews before...
Read moreA colleague of mine recommend this establishment, the one star is for customer service. Upon arrival after making an appointment I was asked to pay first - upfront. Having gone to many (too many to count) upscale spas and salons around the world I have never in my 60 years been asked to pay upfront. As a professional educated woman of color I was offended. I returned to work and asked my Caucasian colleague what the process was for payment she replied "you go in, get your massage, pay when finished". My initial thought was that I was asked to pay first because I am a woman of color - and it appears that I was right. I'm not the one to automatically assume any racial discrimination because I identify with many different races and my appearance reflects my mixed heritage. The massage (after the therapist named Wendy seemed to adjust to touching light beige skin, it took a while) was not the best I've ever had but was good - no complaints there. I paid upfront as requested, then when I was leaving she stopped me with the receipt in her hand and asked for a tip, when I hesitated she confronted me in a hostile tone "we work for tip", I took the high road and tipped her a few dollars out of fear she would become more aggressive. My apology for the long post but it is wise to treat every customer with respect - the way you would want to be treated. People of color be prepared to be humiliated and asked to pay first upfront. I guess my David Yurman diamond cable bracelet, $3k leather bag, 5 carat diamond ring and professional attire wasn't enough to show I wouldn't get the massage and run out the door. I will not...
Read moreI wanted to get a massage after a long trip and thought to try this place out given the good reviews. However, first 10 minutes into the session, I started wondering if the reviews were real or not. Maybe it was the masseuse I got, but I did not have a good experience overall: The head rest smelled bad, as if it wasn’t cleaned/replaced The masseuse asked what pressure I wanted, I said hard, and she said it would be $75 ($10 more than the advertised $65 for an hour). I’ve been to numerous massage places and never was I charged more based on pressure. The massage itself seemed all over the place. Inconsistent pressure throughout. Kept going back to the same area despite my indication that the area feels okay (my upper back hurts more now than before I got the massage). My legs and feet also felt cold half the time as they were left exposed. She took some time to respond when I indicated to cover with the blanket. Surroundings were quite noisy. Several times there were loud thuds on the wall or conversations.
I was hoping to like this place, but I’ve never felt so uncomfortable during a massage than this. I’d like to believe the other reviews and that maybe I just got unlucky with my appointment; however, it’s enough for me...
