Very disgusted with the whole experience. Not very clean, after driving six hours to end up cleaning a room that should be cleaned already i wasn't happy then to find out the ceiling in the shower leaked through the light fixture not to mention the room smelt like wet dog but after cleaning and airing it out it wasn't to bad just old. The wall had a bubble under looked like it just was old to and it just was a bad spot so we told the front desk guy and he was cool about it and knew about the "separation". I have 3young boys and my 7 year old son just barely leaned against it and it busted open. I saved the pieces and told the guy and again it was "fine and can be fixed". Our last day and I ALWAYS clean before we leave (i owned my own cleaning company) so out of common courtesy and habit i clean before we leave. My husband receives a not so happy from his upset boss that he was just charged 800.00 from a trashed room that also supposedly smelled of smoke which we do not smoke so im confused why they are charging us for that and the wall and supposedly a professional cleaning crew which is hilarious seeing as the that room looked and smelled better after we left then it was when we showed up. So sad that place has potential and could be very nice if they weren't so worried about screwing people over. My husband drives dumptruck and always staying in hotels and they are the only place that had...
Read moreI went back & forth between a 2 & 3 rating, ending up with a 3 because I slept well. How the overall rating is so high is beyond me. I really wanted to give the Chalet a high rating due to many fond memories of family visits at the hotel & meals at the cafe.||Good marks: quiet & clean, fresh linens, comfortable mattress ||Bad marks: looks like a dump from the outside, the hotel is in dire need of a couple coats of paint & general exterior maintenance. The paint has peeled in many places down to the bare wood. Our door frame & door looked battered. (If we had just driven past we would not have selected it due to its appearance.) Decor: dated & drab (our room didn’t resemble the photos. Our bathroom, while clean, was very dated & the shower door is in need of maintenance. Facilities: we set the AC unit to 73°, I would say it kept our room at a stuffy 78°. The TV, while it was indeed a flat screen, wasn’t HD. You don’t realize how spoiled we’ve become until you try to watch a “low def” TV. ||The front desk area does not give a good impression. The clerks were professional and nice.||This place was a gem, but we will not go back, unless the property...
Read moreIf you want luxury, then spend big bucks at the Pfister or Ambassador. If you want a plethora of amenities, then the Marriot or Hilton will suffice. But if, like me, you have people to visit in Mequon or nearby east side, and all you want is a clean comfortable room, then that is what you will get here. The ambience is pure simplicity, circa 1950's-60's, and if you are not from Milwaukee, then you are most likely unaware of the rich history of this motel. For decades, Chalet on the Lake was a 5* restaurant where even the middle class found a way to dine once or twice a year. Dressed in your Sunday best, it was an elegant and delicious dining experience, and kids like me loved petting the owner's St. Bernard, Heidi, who greeted all the children as though she were theirs. But if you abhor historical landmarks and hate the cold, as some here have suggested, then you might want to consider avoiding Milwaukee in the winter, and go stay somewhere where you overpay for a warm working shower and cozy bed because the hotel spent its money on modern decor and amenities you may never need to use. This is 5* bang for your buck--or...
