2025-7-11: update to my previous review . . .
The Mequon Site Manager Dustin is great; he's a straight-shooter, keeps a clean place, and is very customer driven and focused. I hope this company recognizes him for the hard work he's doing there, and how much he cares for and respects this location.
That said, after Extra Space bought Life Storage a few years back after this new building was built, I've grown really weary and tired of Extra Space's shady business practices.
Every single year, on or around the anniversary of your lease, they send you a note card in the mail notifying you of your new rate increase. That rate increase is sometimes $50-75/month, but a few times has been more than $100/month. Then you have to call your store manager, who (every year) gives you the same 2 BS lines of reasoning: 1.) the rate increase covers building and service improvements 2.) we have to stay competitive in the storage landscape
Then that store manager has to call "their manager" - whom the customer is not allowed to speak to - and "see if they can get a lower rate approved."
This all, of course, is there scheme to earn their shareholders more money - NOT to take care of the customer. Why, you might ask? Here's why:
1.) yes, costs do increase over time, and a modest rate increase is understandable - but Extra Space has not improved the building, nor the service (short of Dustin's excellent customer service) 2.) Extra Storage claims they "need to stay competitive with other companies in the storage landscape" . . . but that of course is a lie too, because Extra Storage is the LARGEST COMPANY IN THE INDUSTRY - meaning, they set the standard and pricing structure for the whole storage space industry. It's not competition when everyone else follows your lead and the rate standards you set Nationally.
What's more, this time I did NOT receive a notification or card in the mail about my rate increase; I found out when they billed my card for an extra $58/monthly. Comparable's in the Mequon area, with or without some of the features at this current location, are $100/mo or more cheaper than Extra Storage in Mequon.
So, they're taking advantage of the wealthy zip code for sure, employing shady tactics and BS reasoning for the absurd amounts of money they're charging (compared to other great storage companies in the area), and then make you -- the customer -- have to work to keep your rate acceptable.
Why would anyone want to give this company their hard-earned money?! Why would they want to put great employee's on the frontline like Dustin in the difficult position, month after month, of having to deal with irate renters who got smacked out of the blue with an $80/month increase? The company boasts about shareholder profit, inflate their prices to ridiculous levels, and then try to tell the consumer that it's to stay competitive. Mind you - this is for an empty box on a concrete floor with a roll-up door, not for some lovely apartment with nice appliances.
If these were home or apartment rentals, they would have already gone bankrupt with the way they handle their leases and renewals alone. I, for one, have finally had it, and will be looking to lease elsewhere. I suggest everyone else save yourself the hassle, and...

I especially want to give a shout-out to Dustin who helped me with relocating to a different Extra Space Storage location that better suited my needs. He's very knowledgeable and he communicated clearly to make sure I understood my options and how the process works. Most importantly, I was impressed by Dustin's level of customer-focus, which went above and beyond anything I expected. In addition to the above, he offered information and tips I wouldn't have even thought to ask about (e.g., the senior discount, the most cost-effect approach to when I made the move, the benefits of prepaying on future months, etc.). Overall, I truly felt cared for as a person, not just a customer, and I really appreciate that.

They said it would be ready in the morning and when I went to check, it was ready, and I was impressed. The only reason for the absent star is because there was a support column running through the middle of the unit. The fact that they didn't indicate that on line was slimy. typically in person, they show the unit. now days it's all getting moved to online and they should indicate something like that, online.
