We arrived around 4:00 on the 22nd and there was no one at the front desk. Then the guy who was standing out side the door smoking finally put out his cigarette and came in, obviously not happy about it. We checked in; he charged our card and handed us keys. He did not say anything about the hours for the pool or breakfast.
We got in the room which was supposed to have two queen beds and the beds were full size. The room was mostly clean but in some disrepair. No cover on the built in tissue box holder so it kept falling out. There were chips and about a 7 inch crack in the mirror. They had updated the tile around the tub but not the floor, and the bathroom door had been repaired but the staples are rusting and pulling through. They have the lamps with power outlets in the base, handy for plugging in phone chargers -- except the outlets were loose and wobbly in the base, and kept trying to pull out when we were trying to unplug the charging cord. We put some food and sodas in the mini-fridge only to get up in the morning with everything frozen and one exploded beverage to clean up. We tried to turn down the fridge but it appeared to only have two settings: freeze and off.
We didn't try the TV until the next day and the remote did not work. I took it to the desk and there as a young woman who said she would have someone fix it. I also asked about breakfast and the pool hours. Within a few minutes there was a nice maintenance man who tested the remote and said it needed to be programed.
We were in the room until about noon, then left to do our stuff, when we returned we had had no maid service. When the maid service came the next day they did not leave shampoo, thankfully we had a partial bottle from the last hotel in the backpack. The last day the maid came did not leave a clean wash cloth and they did not wipe off the night stand and counter.
On the 24th I went down to get breakfast. It was about 9:15. I was informed by the same rude guy as when we checked in that breakfast was almost over. They provided thin waffles, toast or bagel, cold cereal and juice or coffee. None of those was a time consuming thing to prepare or eat, so there was no excuse for his rudeness. The same thing happened the next day, but they were out of waffle batter and my husband asked for some and we were told once again breakfast is over soon. There were two other guests eating breakfast as well and three more came in after us. Rude guy came in the room and started throwing out the bread and removing the milk, batter, and butter. His behavior was worse than a two year old told to pick up his toys. Not all of the staff are like the rude guy. On the last morning we went in at about the same time and and the gentleman working the desk noticed that the waffle batter was low and offered to get more. He also did not try to rush us by throwing away food and having the trash taken out while we were eating, nor did he insult the woman or couple who came in at about 9:30 to have breakfast. He was the same person who my husband checked out with; he was polite and thanked him for the information about the problems in the room.
The pool is supposed to have pool towels, however there is a rack but no towels. The pool and hot tub both needed cleaning. The sauna was out of order and appeared to have been broken for some time.
Oddly, an employee's vehicle was almost always parked at the entrance of the driveway, blocking half of the access from a busy road. Annoying and unsafe. It may have rude guy's pickup, since it wasn't there on the 26th when he...
Read moreAs I'm not from the area I made reservations to stay at discovery inn, not knowing the location. We arrived at the hotel late, we went in and checked in. The hotel clerk told her was putting me in a non-smoking room and asked that I don't smoke in the room. As if I smoke. Then the hotel clerk say, "I need a $60.00 deposit, in case there is damages. You get the deposit back tomorrow." the clerk hands me a receipt. We get to our room after checking in. We get off our vehicle go to the room open the door. Before we make ourselves comfortable in any hotel room I do a walkthrough. As we're walking around the room checking the light switches on the lamp don't work, and the smell of marijuana smoke is so strong and the smell of varies chemicals is also mixed with the smell of marijuana. We are suddenly sick to our stomachs. I immediately told my niece we are not staying here. Besides my nephew is with us and I wasn't having him stay in a room smelling of marijuana and chemicals. We leave the room and go back to the office and I tell the clerk we aren't staying there at the hotel, and I explaine to him why were not going to stay there, the clerk ask if I would like another room. I tell him no! I ask for my deposit and he tells me not tell tomorrow, that my deposit would be put back on my card. That was at the beginning of the month on May 3rd. It's now May 19. I've been calling the motel asking for my deposit back but each time I'm given attitude my the clerks answering the phone. I asked to speak to the manager and the clerk didn't know the managers name. I've been told their accountant is looking through the paperwork and they get back with me. No accountqnt has called me back. Then, I finally talk to the manager (Frank), he seems like a nice person. All along he's just as bad as the workers, playing the nice guy and assuring me I'll get my deposit back Frank has called me back once telling me the same story as the clerks, that their accountant is looking into it and for sure I'll be getting my deposit back. I even offered to send him a screen shot showing proof that $60.00 was taken out of my account, Frank told me that wasn't necessary. Today May 19, 2025 I called discovery inn and asked to speak with Frank? The clerk told me that Frank no longer works there?? Yeah, go figure! Discovery Inn is a drug hotel that is run down, dirty, fraudulent establishment that is being ran by scam artist. The employee's are so rude, as well!! Shut Down...
Read moreThe area is flooded with police 🚔everywhere that just assume that no matter who you are or what you are doing, you MUST BE breaking the law in some way. And although it may be unfortunate, that has nothing to do with the Discovery Inn. I actually very much like it there. 😊 One of my close friends rents a room there, so I go and visit him quite often. Now, keep on mind, I know a lot of people that reside in many different hotels or motels, so I have visited most of them. And a huge difference I've noticed between all those places and the Discovery Inn is how friendly the staff is. Not only are they very kind to their tenants, but also to the visitors and guests of their tenants. Which is very unlike most places, unfortunately. The further you go into the heart of Salt Lake City (Downtown) the worse it gets. Most require a visitors fee💲, which is understandable, hut a visitors fee is only supposed to be charged after a certain time. Like if they expect a visitor after 🕘 or 🕙 pm; but most places charge a visitor fee throughout the day and not only that, but they pocket the money. A city full of extortionists... And God forbid you don't pay that visitor fee, they will chase you off the property, ban you, cuss you out.🤬 I've even seen an employee of a certain motel (I won't name the motel because I am not here to ruin business for anyone, just to give an honest opinion) beat up a person that was doing nothing but standing in their driveway... And when they demanded, not asked, demanded that he leave immediately, he only asked them why and asked what be he was doing wrong and the person WHO WAS WORKING came outside and tore him apart, dragged him off the property, and then just went back in like it was nothing, like this happened every day. 😧 Mind you, this was in the worst part of town. The drug infested armpit of Salt Lake City. But still, his response was uncalled for. Anyway, I've gone on too long. My point is that the Discovery isn't like that. Very clean. Very friendly staff always willing to help. And they treat everyone with respect. That's my favorite part. I was pleasantly...
