If you love all kinds of seafood, this is a fine place. Unlike other buffets, there's not much chicken or beef or anything but seafood, so if you're hoping to find something you're familiar with when you go to other/Chinese buffets, you're going to find a different variety here. When you walk in, it's interesting that immediately the raw fish on ice is the first thing you see. The front of house station is around a divider wall to the left. Kinda thought that divider wall might've been better served to block the buffet from opening doors and direct traffic to reception, but it is what it is. You are seated (two large dining rooms on both sides of the central buffet area) and a server takes your drink order (Coke products) and sushi roll orders, and you go to the buffet at your leisure. Everything in the buffet is included in the all you can eat price, soups to drinks to desserts, and the sushi rolls are all included too. So that's pretty neat. We felt some confusion that crab legs appeared online to be included with lunch; they're not. That's part of the dinner service, which I suppose makes sense, the crab legs, another crab, and a special choice (lobster, seafood variety, or Japanese beef and wagyu beef) included for that menu. For two adults and two toddlers in the 3 to 5 age range, we left having paid $100 (tip incl), and we questioned if that was the best place for us to have a meal. Our kids didn't eat much at all, so not taking kids might be best. But the environment is very family and kid friendly! Everything was very clean, so nicely decorated, bright, inviting. Way cool wooden seating structure is a focal point. Most everything we tried was yummy. Walnut shrimp was kinda coconutty—different from what we were expecting but good for what it was. I noticed that all the cooked shrimp entrees were cooked really well. The buns were interesting. I thought a meaty-filling one would've been nice. The by-the-bite sushi spread over by the fruit bar had some yummy bites to try! Sushi sandwich was a good one. Many desserts were not for me, but the creme brulee option was great. Every selection is a single bite or tiny cup, so if you don't like it, not much waste. Little cups of ice cream were a hit for my kids. I wish I'd taken more time to look over the sushi rolls because it looks like there are a lot of good ones, but we chose one that fell flat for us. Another was great! So take your time. I know sushi rolls just come as they come (8 pcs) but I almost felt like if a roll was maybe half as many bites, you could try more rolls and always order the same one again if you loved it. I think if we go again it might be for dinner and we'd focus on the crab legs and sushi rolls, and then we'd feel like we got more money's worth. The smaller filler foods weren't as amazing as what would bring us back again without AYCE crab legs to draw us in. I'm gonna say it felt like a fair price for the lunch meal if raw seafood is really your jam. Our server was a complete gem, and we felt very welcome. I wish the...

So yesterday, we decided to check out Sukiya in Midvale. It’s supposed to be an all-you-can-eat sushi and Japanese buffet—which sounds amazing, right? Like, you hear that and your brain goes, “Oh wow, I’m about to eat like a sumo wrestler on cheat day.”
We’d been to the Orem location before and it was great. Food was fresh, staff was friendly, and the sushi actually tasted like sushi—not like something that just wanted to be sushi when it grew up.
But this Midvale spot? I don’t even know how to explain it. We walked in and immediately thought, “Did we go to the right place or accidentally stumble into someone’s basement sushi experiment?”
The food… I mean, it was technically there. Like, it existed. But it looked like it had been sitting under those heat lamps since sometime last Thursday. The sushi was warm. Warm. I don’t know if you’ve ever eaten warm sushi, but it’s like your mouth files a complaint mid-bite.
One of the girls behind the counter was just kind of tossing food onto plates like she was mad at it. At one point I swear she sighed at the rice. The vibe wasn’t so much “Japanese hospitality” as it was “We gave up halfway through lunch service.”
And then—the restrooms. Now, I don’t want to be dramatic, but they’re right next to the kitchen. Like touching it. You could wash your hands and stir teriyaki in the same motion. Also, there were cockroaches. Just straight-up attending the buffet like they had a reservation.
Look, if you’re thinking of trying Sukiya, skip Midvale and go straight to Orem. Trust me. It’s like the Orem one is the successful sibling who went to college, and the Midvale one is just… hanging out. On probation.
So yeah. It’s all-you-can-eat. But honestly? I think I ate...
Read moreAs someone that has pre-diabetic tendencies, this buffet is amazing with what it offers. This is can be an all-you-can-eat Nigiri or Sashimi bar if you want it to be.
Their sushi rolls don't seem that impressive as most seem to be iterations of tempura shrimp, however we mostly went for the nigiri and sashimi for our first time here.
I think the octopus sashimi and baby octopus and takoyaki are some of the best I've ever tried. Salmon and hamachi nigiri and sashimi were decent quality, to par with other sushi places. Their mussels were big and clean. The only sashimi I didn't like was the scallops, (it's taste was weird and off-putting, but its texture was great - I always order scallops any seafood place).
I think ot would be awesome if they offered thinly sliced lemons and jalapeños near the sashimi. However, they do offer regular sliced lemons.
I loved the refillable green tea. It's so affordable to have buffet style for two, that ordered the sake (not included in buffet price) would still be affordable.
They had a variety of little desserts. I tried every type of tiramisu they had. Some of their cakes are a little dry. I can't have Boba as a pre-diabetic or most puddings and mousses but their exotic flavors seemed awesome.
Oh, also I love eating roe by itself by the spoonful...if you wanted to eat an entire cup of roe eggs for buffet, you could. They have 3 different types of roe, also.
This is my favorite seafood restaurant in Utah, and possibly Nevada and California, also (where I originally come from and have tried many seafood restaurants).
Service is amazing and quick, also.
Bathrooms could be upkept and cleaned a little better, that and the scallops are the only things that could...
