I am not one to write reviews, but I absolutely have to share my utterly offensive and disgraceful experience at the Hyatt in Milford this past weekend. My fiancé and I decided to stay at the Hyatt just for fun on Saturday night. We have a 4 month old baby at home and wanted a night out for ourselves. We got a babysitter for the night and went out for a friends birthday in New Haven.
We got back to the Hyatt around 1am, checked in, and went to our room. We were playing music, admittedly a little too loudly. The front desk employee came up to our room, stated that our neighbors had complained and asked us to turn down the music. I witnessed the entire interaction between Michael from the front desk and my fiancé, it was calm and brief. We immediately turned down the music and went about our night. About 15 minutes later there was another knock at the door.. It was the MILFORD POLICE. We were escorted downstairs and when I asked the front desk employee why he had called the cops he said that he 'felt threatened' and thought my fiancé was 'going to hit him.' Whether or not he felt threatened is subjective, but I can attest to the fact that my fiancé, notoriously calm and collected, in no way gave the impression that he was going to act out in violence. We were given a receipt, no refund, and forced to leave the premises.
I am a white woman and my fiancé is a black man. I feel strongly that if this weren't the case, things would have gone very differently that night. It disgusts me that the Hyatt condones racial discrimination by employing a person who would falsify a series of events to the police based on their personal prejudices.
You can be an intelligent, successful, kind, well spoken black man and be perceived as threatening by doing nothing but existing.
Needless to say, we will never stay at the Hyatt in Milford again, and urge anyone else to think twice...
Read moreit’s a good place for super short stays like overnight or 2 nights. for anything longer, i would NOT RECOMMEND. their breakfast selection and taste is average. i have had better tasting breakfasts with wider options at quite a few other 3 star hotels in CT. the location is very good and close to restaurants and gas stations and Connecticut Post Mall in the next block. it is an outdated hotel and is in desperate need of upgrading. my room had a half dead bug on the couch the moment i entered my room. the room had no scent to it. they follow sustainability apparently so their shampoo and conditioner come in small packets rather than tubes. NO microwave in the room was a big bummer too. they got an average pool and fitness center, again, other 3 star hotels have much better ones available in the area. i believe their per night room pricing is expensive for what they provide as compared to other 3 star hotels in the area. staff is friendly. last but not the least, their WIFI is TERRIBLE. consider yourself lucky if your phone or laptop get connected and STAY connected throughout. my stay mostly consisted of me using 5G on my phone and hotspot to my computer since that was FASTER and CONSISTENT. their front desk and hyatt IT support weren’t of any good either because all i was told is “we’re sorry for the inconvenience but we’re unable to assist any further.” No wifi in a hotel is THE END for most of us here so if this is for you too then i would def not recommend staying here. so yes, overall, it was just okay, i have been to waaaay better 3 star hotels in the area who actually live up and some even go beyond 3 star a bit in the area. so stay here only if it’s an overnight one or...
Read moreI booked a hotel block at the Hyatt for my wedding as well as a room for my future husband and myself to stay for our wedding night and myself alone for the rehearsal dinner night. Communication with the sales associate, Valerie, was very difficult. I was only able to block 5 rooms for each night to start. I had emailed her multiple times and called multiple times a couple months after staring the block to find out what the room status was and to add more rooms to the block but I did not hear back from her. When I was finally able to get a hold of her, she notified me that she cannot add more rooms to the blocks because she had already added an additional 5 rooms for each night without letting informing me. Furthermore, she had also confirmed with me that my future husband and I would have a large king room for our wedding night. Upon checking in, I found out that she had switched my room to a double room which was very upsetting and not appropriate for our wedding night. The front desk notified me that there were no large king rooms available so I had decided to settle with a regular king bedroom. There was no effort made to remedy the situation at any time. Also, at check-in, the woman at the desk almost gave away another brides guest gift basket to one of my bridesmaids until I mentioned that I had not purchased any gift baskets to be given to my guests. She should have really checked which wedding party she was a part of. The room I stayed in had a very slow draining which left me standing in a pool of water overtime I took a shower. Overall, it was a somewhat disappointing stay and I had wished I looked around some more before booking my...
