Mattress Firm Erie — Hotel in Millcreek Township

You know when you’re buying a car, and the time you spend declining an extended warranty takes more time than the negotiations on the price of the vehicle? That was this experience - but substitute “sheets” for “warranty.”

My wife and I took advantage of some great promotional prices on a mattress / frame that we chose. Would be more / 5 stars for that part of the purchase. Great bed. Yay.

But when we got to the checkout counter it went like this:

Me: “We will take this mattress and this adjustable frame. Thank you!” Associate: “Do you have the right sheets? We have several bundles for you to choose from.” Me: “Um. Not yet. But no thank you. We will get some. When can the bed be delivered?” Associate: “how much?” Me, looking quizzically at him. Weird pause: “how much…what?” Associate: “how much are the sheets you’re getting?” Me: “How much, like, how expensive? we didn’t get them yet? We didn’t even start shopping yet. I still have to pay you for the mattress?” Associate: “Oh, so you don’t know.” Weird pause, he looks deep inside me, like I’m about to find out the meaning of life. Me, staring blankly, then looking at my wife: “uh, I don’t know? No? But I know we aren’t interested in your $299 sheet set at this time. Thank you. When are we looking at delivery?” Associate: “but how do you EVEN KNOW until I take the time to tell you about them. Natural body oil decomposes a mattress…these high quality super sonic sheets….” Goes on to try to explain the science of $299 queen size overpriced bedding, as I zone out, thinking about how in all the years I’ve been alive…I’ve never invested this much time talking about my sheet selection to a complete stranger. Or anyone. Or out loud. Or internally. What a weird knowledge flex by him, and actually looked around to see if maybe he was on an employee improvement plan because he doesn’t sell enough accessories with his mattress transactions, and I was the victim of his upcoming review metric that needs met. Nope. This was all him.

After an hour of sitting on almost every mattress, unbothered as he tended to other customers, we considered walking out based on that 3 minutes of “but let me upsell you on my high percentage commission items first” attempt. Unfortunate.

Honest opinion: great mattresses, sold by your neighborhood used car lot salesperson. If that’s your thing: 5 stars. But I’m an extrovert and still found the closing of this transaction…yucky. I don’t often remember sales peoples names, but I do remember his. Maybe he’s an outlier? If not…thats an indication...

Baron, with Erie, PA Mattress Firm, was very helpful choosing just the perfect mattress for us. He is knowledgeable and well versed on everything needed for the just the right purchase. Thank you Baron. The mattress arrives in 2 days...I will add more once we get to experience how great it is.

And Sara from the Ashtabula, OH store was also there today. She too was able to add her perspective. Sara showed us an "X-ray tool", that explained each layer of the mattress. That tool compared 2 mattresses, and showed percentage differences of each...in other words, help determine why one is better than the other. Cool tool! Thanks Sara!

We enjoyed the learning process. I decided to order box springs, and ask what kind of discount could I get, since we had just purchased a mattress; and wanted all parts to arrive at same time. A discounted outlet set could be delivered "with" the mattress, so I agreed. But, I did inquire about brand new sets only to find out there weren't any. The original delivery order did not get cancelled, and I found out my order was going to be delivered in 2 parts...not acceptable. Also, my old box springs were not going to be removed upon 2nd delivery, per the order.

I went back the next day, again. Michelle from Ashtabula was working in Erie. I explained my dilemma to her. When she checked the warehouse, she found 11 brand new sets of box springs in stock. The same warehouse where my new mattress was shipping from...the entire order could be delivered 2/10/24. It took her perseverance to cancel the original delivery order, and get everything changed. Michelle gave me the new box springs for the same price as the original discounted outlet set would have cost. Wow, what a spectacular deal!!

Everything was delivered this morning and is perfect. Setup, cleaned up, and the old set... bagged and gone.

Thank you so much Michelle. You stayed in constant contact until all was complete. You went above and beyond for me. I truly can't thank you enough.

I walked into Mattress Firm with the mattress I had in mind to buy. Baron came up to me immediately and helped. He was very professional, genuine, real, nice, and understood that I wanted to make sure to get the best possible. He put himself in my shoes and understood that this was all about helping me pick the right mattress and additional items. He explained everything so well and convinced me to get the mattress cover and bed sheets. I already wanted to get the pillows from the moment he offered me to try out the pillow. He explained to me how the pillows are just as important as having the right mattress and contribute to how you’ll sleep at night. When I laid on the pillow and mattress, it was comfortable! He knew that I wanted a mattress without the seems and that I wanted medium firm/soft. Baron helped me out a lot! He was very kind and engaged in the conversations and considered the price range I wanted to stick to. I can tell that he is very real and honest. I trust him and I trust with what he recommended. I loved it and it was very comfortable. Definitely a great salesman! I’m glad I came right in time for Baron to help me! The other thing I appreciate is that he gave me all the deals and discounts! I didn’t expect to pay $360 for the mattress and for the other items to be super cheap when original price was expensive! He really sealed the deal for me! I really appreciate that he helped me save even more money. I walked in thinking I was going to spend $600 on a mattress alone and walked out ordering the mattress, bed sheets, mattress protector, and 2 pillows for $600!
