We had our first visit to the Beach Street Cottages in June 2022. It was highly recommended by a family friend and booked through my parents for a family trip. We had the 2 units (upstairs and downstairs) in building 19 for 6 adults ranging from 70's to 40's and 2 children (13 & 10). My first impressions were that the units were SMALL but clean and decently maintained & furnished. There was one small bathroom with a single vanity/sink, one bedroom with king or queen bed (not sure), open bunks (no door) in the hallway with single mattresses, and a fold out couch in the one main room. The kitchen was along one wall of the main room and there was a coffee table and a small round dining table. Very small. The building we were in was right outside the pool which was convenient for my kids. The pool is very small and felt crowded at times, and there was no hot tub. I think there was a small game area (big chessboard, fire pit) on the other side of the complex but we didn't use it. There was a center courtyard on either side of the pool with building close around the courtyard. 2 gazebos and a handful of grills. Well landscaped with lovely flowers and bushes and tons of lizards for the kids to chase. ||||I was VERY concerned with the fact that this place is across the street from the beach. It was not ideal but not as bad as I expected. Drivers always stopped for pedestrians and there was a crosswalk just at the end of the complex. There was a door and a set of wooden stairs on the other side of the road to access the beach. For beach service for the units, you can use Ride On surf school which is set up on the beach behind Capt. Daves (the restaurant directly across from the Beach Street Cottages). ||||The parking lot is shared with a restaurant (Kenny D's) and parking is an issue. Each unit gets one spot so if you are sharing with more than one family, someone has to park at the Majestic Sun about 10 - 15 min away. On Karaoke night for Kenny d's (Wednesday) there were no open spots for cottage residents because restaurant patrons were filling the lot. ||||The beach area across the street is completely adequate and you can see the fireworks from the harbor on Thursday nights. It's the usual Destin lovely white, clean sand and clear water (depending on the time of year and mother nature). We had 2 red flag days with big, rough waves, one day when the ocean was as calm as a bathtub, and 4 days with yellow flags and decent waves for kids to surf or paddle in the shallows. ||||I would likely not stay here again on my own but I wouldn't argue if my family booked it for another trip. For my family, the unit was too cramped. Not enough places to hang swimsuits and store beach stuff without tripping on it. The unit didn't have in-unit laundry with was a HUGE annoyance. Laundry was behind the pool and free to use but machines were almost always full and several times I had people remove my wet towels from the dryer. Not having the ability to do laundry or dry beach towels was a big deal to me. We also like a bigger pool, hot tub access, and direct...
Read moreWe stayed here March 2016. Upon check-in, we were sent to a room that had people in it. We were told the room was being cleaned, however, the TV was on Disney channel, and there was not a card that hangs on the door indicating maid service was present. We then had to wait for a room to be prepared. We were put in a room that faced the pool/laundry bathrooms from the porch and the other side was parking lot view. The cars were parked within approximately 4 feet of the master bedroom. The master had a full size bed with a mattress that was worn out. Ironically, every day we were there we received promotional emails from Wyndham at Home promoting their mattress sales. There were no washer/dryers in units. There were 6 pairs located centrally between the units. This would have been fine, but 3 had signs on them that they were not working. We were told they were waiting on parts. There were not enough units to begin with to service a time share community where you need to wash towels, etc. Needless to say, we were never able to wash our clothes. When we arrived, the trash dumpster was overflowing with trash into the driveway. Our teen children were taking out the trash while we were at the store and their key did not work to get back into unit. There is NO staff available for assistance during evening hours. You have to call the other location which is NOT close enough to be sharing staff and services. Our kids did not have their phones with them while taking the trash out at 7:08 PM. They had to wait for us to return. We really questioned the security and safety for these reasons and our check in mishap. The TV's were very poor quality and pictures were fuzzy so we decided to watch a DVD. When we called to see if they had a DVD player available, they kept saying it was under the TV. Finally maintenance came and found out there was no DVD player in the room. We were in the lower unit and heard every single word that the people in the upper unit said. Unfortunately, this stay was very disappointing because we were so excited based on the minimal reviews available for this property. We just left on Tuesday rather than staying until Friday. Management seems to be behind and fairly non-responsive. Beach Street needs its own staff.
Positives for this location:
-There are great resteraunts nearby. -The location and proximity to the beach are awesome and can't be beat. -We were told that units will be completely updated starting in September 2016. This will be an improvement since they are...
Read moreIf you’re wanting a quickie stay ( 3 days or less) then this resort is worth it. We decided to stay 6 days. Check in was very quick. That’s the good. However, I was very disappointed with the upkeep of this resort. I posted a picture of a cigar on the ground because it was where I had to sit on our little “porch”. The cigar hasn’t moved in 5 days. We don’t smoke so it was left there by the previous occupants or a passersby. A lot of paper lying all over the mulch areas. This shows how much the resort CLEANS the grounds. Not as updated as we expected or use to with a Wyndham resort. Most of the units have a view of the one and only pool and all the “cottages “ surround it so it is very compact. So now to the pool… it had major cracks around the edges, green slime on the sides and for the five days we were there, the pool wasn’t vacuumed because there was sand in it, in the same spot! We would have been aware if maintenance had cleaned it bc we could hear EVERYTHING going on at the pool. If someone decides to turn on the music (speakers are mounted on the laundry room) the radio gets turned on at 8:00 am, EVERYONE hears it and if you have a door close to the speakers, you aren’t getting any “peaceful rest.” These cottages are all one bedroom and have a set of bunk beds in the hallway to the bathroom. One family had 7 kids staying in one. 🤷🏻♀️ We just managed with 2 adults and a 16y/o. The kitchen is half the size of a galley kitchen with a half sized stove. I have no idea what one reviewer was talking about when they said that there was plenty of storage space for your groceries. I had our food stored on the countertop, top of the fridge, and in a box on the floor. We probably won’t stay again. Beautiful area outside of the resort and close to all major shopping. I included pics of the pots and pans that you can keep under the sink with your cleaning supplies and a regular-sized fork for size reference for the stove size...
