This was the worst stay I have ever had... I stay at Marriott hotels a lot,. and upon arriving at this hotel I immediately turned down the A/C due to it being 78degrees in the room. Went to dinner, and when I returned it was still 78 degrees. I called down to the lobby and the gentleman told me that he would TRY to get maintenance to check it. That was at 8pm. At 9pm I called back down and he told me that he would try to get them there before 11pm. And if he couldnt he would let me know. At 11:15pm I called back down and spoke to a different gentleman (shift change) and he told me that I had to wait until morning. I asked if there was a fan we could use or portable A/C, he said he would look at let me know..... and of course I never heard back from him. The next morning went down to the front desk and asked about the A/C. The gentleman told me that there were multiple rooms on the 4th floor that had this issue and they would get maintenance there to look at it. Left until about 3pm, went up to the room and still no A/C. Now it is the middle of the day in Alabama and it is HOT. Went back down, the gentleman told me the maintenance went to the other rooms and the A/C seemed to be fixed, but they did not go into mine. I told him that they needed to come back while I was out and check it. He said he would call them again. Went back out, and when I returned he said maintenance had not been there yet. but they were coming. And he would go ahead and reserve another room for me just in case it was not fixed by the time I came back that evening after dinner. Went to dinner and came back.... and still no A/C. Called down to the front desk, there had been another shift change and the guy told me that there was no record of A/C issues, he was told they were fixed, and there was no room reserved. Went down to talk to him and he basically told me I had to wait to the following day, despite the fact that were were leaving for it to be fixed. I told him that we were checking out and he was rude and told me there was nothing he could do. He then told me (at almost midnight) If I could find another hotel that had availability we could move and they would pay for the room. At that point I was done. There were no available rooms anywhere as it was a busy weekend and everything was sold out. |When I got back home I contacted customer support.... and now it is five weeks later and still no resolution. I asked for a full refund, and I was told by the hotel manager that given the circumstances they would only refund me one night. The hotel was booked full the whole weekend, and the only thing they could do for me was refund me one night.... I will never stay at this hotel again. And customer support cant actually help you with anything. They continue to try to get in touch with the general manager for the refund status and nobody is ever working, or they say they will take care of it and I have to call back the following day. Read moreIt's a great location in a historical building with cool architectural details. I don't think there are any rooms in this hotel that look exactly the same. The developer in charge of the renovation of this space actually worked with historians to preserve the historical features. I was blown away by the amount of sunlight coming from these enormous red brick windows. The coolest part is that the high ceilings have wood beams, and reach a height of about 16 feet. I reserved a single King Suite with a river view (Room 410). It was a very spacious room!
There's a microwave and a refrigerator to the right when you first walk into the room. There's a Keurig coffee machine near the flat screen TV. Everything looked modern and new. The furnishings are from West Elm. The bathroom was clean and bright. There are bath gel, shampoo, and conditioner wall dispensers that are conveniently located in the shower stall. They have blackout window curtains that work almost too well. The room gets super dark with the high ceiling. There was a MGM Biscuits playoff game the first night I was there, and the curtains totally blocked out the huge LED field lighting. As for sound, I think I may have heard the train horn faintly in the background once or twice. I normally wear earplugs, but I never had to use them the entire time I stayed at this hotel. The room also stayed cool the entire time. I never had to adjust the temperature.
The hotel staff were all friendly & helpful. Checking in was a breeze. Typically check-in time is at 4:00 pm. I arrived early, but fortunately my room was ready. Breakfast is included with your room fee. It's more like a continental breakfast with a few hot breakfast options. You can make your own waffle, or get some scrambled eggs and bacon. I'd say it was an average breakfast.
I wanted to give a 5 star review, but unfortunately I didn't get any housekeeping services. The reservation confirmation said that guests will receive housekeeping every other day. I stayed there for 3 nights and didn't get that service. They did set me up with 3 sets of towels, and I'm grateful for that. Other than that, it was a beautiful and comfortable stay. I wouldn't hesitate to book another stay at this hotel...
