It's a beautifully decorated restaurant that is located inside the historical Murphy House that was built in 1851. If anything, you really need to see what the Trilogy Hotel has done to revitalize this space. Everything about this place just lures you in with their grand foyer leading you to the staircase. There is a full bar area to the right at the entrance, and the actual restaurant is near the staircase to the left. I wouldn't have known it was there, if not for the banner hanging from the mansion. I did glance over the dinner menu the first time I visited. It's a varied mix of southern with a little creole, but at a gourmet level. I was only in Montgomery for a short period of time. All I could do was try it for breakfast. If you're staying in the hotel on the weekend, then you may want to try their brunch. The Oxtail Benedict definitely caught my eye.
The breakfast menu is limited. It's a hotel restaurant, so keep that in mind. I initially wanted the Kinsmith Omelet that I've read about. They were out of the pimento cheese. I ended up getting the Steak and Eggs. Everything was cooked exactly the way I ordered it. The steak usually is the highlight, but it was the biscuits and housemade jams that were the star on this plate. I would have liked the steak more had it not been marinated. I think I wasn't in love with the red-eye gravy. Other than that, I was happy with the rest of it. It was a very well presented meal with a mushroom, onion, & spinach stir-fry, and fresh fruit. But those buttermilk biscuits with the strawberry jam that had a touch of mint & basil was what won me over. The service was good as well. I actually wish I had taken her recommendation to get the Alabama Breakfast (the most popular item) with the Conecuh sausage. That's what I'll get next time. I was also blown away by the fact that they gave me some samples of jams to take with me. That was so sweet! They were all great. They should sell & package all of the flavors for tourists like me.
I think it's cool that Marriott has two hotels housed within 3 historical buildings. I stayed at the SpringHill Suites which is next door to the Trilogy. The Trilogy (Autograph Collection) is more of a boutique hotel, but both have great historical architecture features and charm. It's in a historical area with lots of appeal. The breakfast at Kinsmith was good for a sit down meal versus a basic self-serve hotel breakfast. It's good to have both options in a Marriott property. I'd definitely revisit Kinsmith on my next trip...
Read moreWould not recommend any person of color to attend this establishment. Service was poor and treatment is very uncalled for. This was how I was treated below .
Prearrival: Was called by 3 different people being harassed while I was trying to get ready for my event .No one else should have contacted me outside of the sales coordinator I have been dealing with for the last 2 months . The first two people that called were very rude. Two of them were saying $100 authorization but the third person was saying $2100 immediately. Someone called back and apologized and said $100 authorization is fine. Yet after I provided the $100 authorization it still wasn't enough.
Arrival: Was immediately pulled out of the event into the bar and told if I didn't give the updated $800 authorization right now no one from my event would be served. All calls showed me they were hunting me down as if I wasn’t going to show up nor pay . (Which I did pay)
Food: Entrée (extremely dry) Rice Pilaf (bland) Green Bean (bland, could count the green beans on the plate) Overall not worth the price
Server , Bartender , Chef Tyrone and Chandler over Sales event were THE respectful people !
Please take business elsewhere if you are of color . They charged me $897 before I sat down good and refused to service me while charging others 5 days later as the...
Read moreFirst, let me say that I’m never one to try to cause issues when it comes to anyone’s employment, but I do feel that upper management should speak to the wait staff about attending to guests in a timely manner. Maybe they were short staffed, but it seemed their attention was solely towards the other customers (besides their initial greeting), as if my sister and I didn’t matter.
We went there for brunch earlier today and left feeling ignored. After waiting in the hallway for about 15 minutes (with no other incoming guests), we were finally sat, only to sit another 10 or so minutes without even an offer of bread or water from either of the two servers. Disappointed (and feeling a bit disregarded), we finally decided to leave.
Not saying the servers should be fired; I just think a bit of constructive feedback could cause a positive turnaround.
With that said, I will add that I was impressed with the ambiance and exquisite interior design of the place. It definitely has a pleasant charm.
Best wishes on the new...
