My partner & I have worked in the hospitality industry for over 10yrs. As a FD & AGM manager/ and his extensive knowledge as both houseman & engineering. We are not critical, but do have expectations, basic standards & a perspective as a common guest at a different location outside of our current work place. Our review of this hotel (knowledgeable about the criteria) is simply based on how we know the hotel experience should be. With that said, upon entry the hotel lobby smelled and looked very clean. The PM agent Janisa or Justina (my apologies if the name in error) was initially, cold & uninviting to be honest. I felt that the check in was rushed, no greeting, no eye contact, no smile. Nothing. Initially it was off putting. But I had to remember that in this field, any FD PM agent ESPECIALLY as a woman, we have to stand on business during initial contact. Especially if you don't have legit security during the night shifts to protect you. I used to be a PM supervisor so I get it! I will always emplore all hotel locations to extend security to your PM employees. PM shifts on a weekend, even more importantly on a holiday weekend, you have to deal with ALL TYPES of guests. Some with relaxing intentions, some the intent to be rowdy. I totally understand, however I still feel that she was guarded up immediately & exuded a non welcoming demeanor. Our intentions for booking at the Hyatt Place was to swim in an outdoor pool, get out the house, & enjoy each other's company for the July 4th holiday for the night. The room we were assigned was clean but immediately when we walked in, it was hot. The thermostat was set to 66 but read 75. In July, that's not comfortable. When I went back to the front desk, Janisa completely sympathized with my concerns and quickly moved our room. She explained the HVAC situation for the building & also offered to have maintenance come up and double check everything. She even offered to cancel our reservation at no charge. Wow, she really impressed me with that. Granted our first interaction wasn't pleasant, however she quickly changed my mind. She quickly accommodated us by moving our room and that was much appreciated. Great job Janisa! Thank you. New room was much better. Pool was great! Clean & the water was relaxing. Water pressure in the shower was weak, but I understand that's not an easy fix. We sat outside on the bench under the tree at night and watch fireworks across Rt73. We absolutely loved it! Breakfast was good. Chives on the scrambled eggs was a nice touch. I recommend possibly adding turkey based food options to the breakfast buffet. Turkey bacon or sausage. Instead of just pork or beef options. A variety of bagel choices. Instead of just all plain. iHG locations have raisen, onion and wheat available for their guests. I would also add cottage cheese to the buffet in addition to cream cheese. Incorporate a berry selection (blueberry/strawberry/blackberry) option along side the melon bowl that was available. Also, the young lady cleaning off the tables after guests were finished eating - reminder, please spray the cleaning rag THEN you wipe the tables. Not the other way around. When you spray a chemical onto a surface especially next to people that are still eating, the product can accidentally & potentially contaminate their food. That's housekeeping standards basics. Overall the hotel and the experience was a 4/5. We definitely will stay...
Read moreI didn't know what to expect from this hotel because I had never heard of the "Hyatt Place" brand prior to booking. It was very affordable. We checked in late and the front desk clerk, Angela, was extremely friendly and helpful. I think I went down to the desk three separate times for things we needed and she was able to immediately fulfill all of our requests/needs.
The room was clean and functional. The pull-out couch came made with linens already. The only downside to the room was that the HVAC unit was very weak, and without the air conditioning running, the room became EXTREMELY humid and stuffy. You're also unable to use the bathroom light without the loud fan running. The WiFi was free and easily accessible. There was also a small refrigerator, microwave, and coffeemaker in the room.
Hyatt Place offers a delicious breakfast buffet area with many options. The staff is kept busy constantly replenishing it and we were not without items for very long. There is also a small bar, made to order foods, and pre-made foods available. They have brand name liquors which was much appreciated. The prices for these were reasonable.
The outdoor pool was closed but the fitness center is available 24 hours. They only have cardio equipment(bike, treadmill, and elliptical) but there is floor space to stretch and do bodyweight exercises. They provide free ear buds with a long cord(which were better than the ones I brought). The hotel is located on a side street so I was able to run outside without worries of heavy traffic.
The highlight of this hotel is definitely the staff. All of the staff members were extremely helpful and courteous. I'm sorry I didn't get everyone's names to put into this review. They were all friendly, helpful, and recommended good Chinese takeout. I signed up for the World of Hyatt rewards and they were able to add this stay to it.
The owner and manager should be extremely proud of their staff and what they have going here. I don't sign up for hotel rewards programs(I don't travel much) but I will definitely look for a Hyatt Place or other Hyatt product when I do. If we ever return to Philadelphia this will be the...
Read moreThe hotel is clean, well maintained. The rooms are packed with things to make you comfortable - not a lot of walking room but there’s a desk, a living room area and a bedroom - divided but open to each other. The couch is comfy and does pull out into a bed. There’s even a footstool and a moveable shelf stand for beverages or tablets and few cubbies for shoes. The sink is outside of the toilet/shower (which has a door for privacy) - so the bathroom feels small but it’s very clean. The amenities are push dispenser on the wall - personally I love that as it’s less waste, less garbage going in dumps … a little thing but it adds up and plus it’s nice not to mess with those little bottles.
Breakfast was tremendous! Eggs (powdered but tasty), Canadian bacon, tri-colored home fries (w/one color being sweet potato - it was really quite delicious), French toast sticks with berry compote and/syrup were the hot options and they were kept filled with access behind the buffet area which was a bonus to stop added congestion in a more-confined area. The had fresh fruit bowl with pineapple, grapes, orange sections and melons plus whole apples, oranges and bananas. There were oatmeal packets, cereal containers, toast, bagels, donut holes, hard boiled eggs … and for beverages there was milk, oj, apple juice, ice water and coffee and tea. There was plenty of seating in two different areas - it was one of the best breakfast setups we’ve ever seen. Only “awkward” thing was the area we sat at was directly across from the front desk so it was busy with checkouts but there were other places to sit.
The only down-side of this hotel is the street it’s on is congested and cumbersome to navigate. It’s a busy route with no turnoffs from opposite direction so you have to drive by. Turn around and come back and when it was busy (rush hour either end and lunch time) it took forever to actually accomplish it over 25 minutes driving to get back to the hotel one time when we drove to Wendy’s just 1/2 mile or so down the road! (I realize the hotel can do nothing about that … we were just unprepared and changed our schedule to eliminate travel during those...
