Coming into town, we found this hotel on the main Street (near the Walmart).
Lots of parking, friendly reception upon check in. The price that we were quoted was the same price that we have looked up online (with some hotels there is a big discrepancy between what the website says the room rates are and what they are in person).
The reception area and main parts of the hotel (hallways etc) were very very warm. Outside temperature that day was about mid 70s. The complementary fresh cookies that were being offered in a container on the front desk were melted.
The hotel is two floors and there is an elevator. Our room was extremely hot when we first came in however the air conditioning was good and we were able to get it cooled down in a few hours. The room was a good size with four pillows per bed... very comfortable beds. The room had a television, a fridge, a microwave, an iron, a hair dryer and a coffee maker.
There was an indoor pool and fitness room available. Breakfast was included in the price of your room, and it was very good. The eating area was not huge, and was very very busy on a Saturday morning. Also very very warm. The air conditioning in the room was cranked up as high as it would go but still was warm enough to make you sweat sitting there.
The breakfast attendant was very busy and friendly and she was busy cooking made-to-order omelettes if you wanted that… otherwise there were scrambled eggs and sausages and hot gravy for the hot biscuits, There was a make your own hot waffle station and a little area of add ins (choc chips, raisins, granola, coconut) that you could put into your oatmeal or yogurt. Three kinds of fruit, four kinds of Cold cereal, tea coffee decaf two kinds of juice…
Very good...

I don't agree that this should be called a 2-1/2 star hotel at all - room had a musty odor, had lots of mildew spots in the shower, and was in need of at least a fresh coat of paint in several areas.
The electrical situation was also a bit disconcerting. There was one outlet behind the mattress (below the headboard) with a six-way outlet splitter plugged into it. From this was a very light duty extension cord plugged into it that the alarm clock was then plugged into. Not only did this seem like a blatant fire hazard, but it made it necessary to move the mattress in order to plug in a phone charger that would reach the nightstand.
My biggest issue with this hotel is their pet fee. This is how the pet policy fee reads on the Best Western website: "There may be a maximum charge of $20 per day for each room with a pet or multiple pets, or a maximum charge per week of $100. A refundable damage deposit of up to $50 per stay may be required of all guests with a pet."
This fee also factored into my decision to book a room there. They charged me $30 for two dogs ($15 each) for one night. That doesn't equate to what is stated on Best Western's website. I disputed their charge with two different employees & they basically told me "tough luck" with no attempt at customer service.
Overall, I was less than satisfied with this...
Read moreIt's conveniently located across from Walmart. I like Best Westerns because I do a lot of work with dog rescues and they are very dog friendly. The room I stayed in had plenty of room to fit two of the largest dog crates they make. Although this stay I did not have my dogs with me. The refrigerator and microwave were good size. TV is small but I could care less about that. The room was clean and didn't have any odors. My allergies didn't act up. I'm a spinal surgery patient with an ACDF at C5-6 with titanium hardware. I slept fine and the pillows were fine for the night I stayed there. (I forgot mine at home) The lady who checked me in was extremely nice and excitedly told me about the hot breakfast in the morning. It was a simple breakfast and there was plenty. The potatoes are pretty good as she said they would be.
I actually had a medical appointment in Iowa City but chose to stay in Mount Pleasant. My boyfriend is always telling me how small towns are dying. I came to support a small town. I figure the city gets plenty of year round business with university events..but the small towns need the love and help. So if you have the option...help these small towns...
