I'm going to give truthful pros and cons to the Blue Dorey only as this is the place we are staying right now! I'm writing this review on day 2 , here in the Victoria room , the pros are
CONS
These are the cons and I'm not going to sugar coat it or try and be rude either just honest.
When we first showed up after paying over 800.00 for 2 nights (which is a ton of saved up money) the door was open there was a note with our name and a key on the table. Ok hmmm ....no one at all was around so we went into our room with tons of unanswered questions like , when's breakfast ? where is the best place to grab dinner ? This isn't a hotel it's a b&b it's suppose to be friendly and welcoming like any other I stayed at where u are greeted and treated warmly this was weird to us but , we thought let's just give it time . Now day 2 got up this am and breakfast is downstairs in a basement with dingy rock walls and it's dark , a lady who doesn't speak much English is making food , she looked at us , never said a word not even a cracked smile , she was just humming and singing to herself lol, so we look at each other and wonder , do we help ourselves? Do we leave the dishes on the table when we are done? Do we hand them back? So I asked .. Is breakfast ready can we start .. She replies coffee is right there. Ok well I guess so , so there were stale muffins , watermelon , pineapples , orange juice and some egg and spinach thing. After breakfast we head back upstairs and on our way to the room I say to my husband .. You know what ? we been here day 2 never spoke to the innkeeper or owner , we never seen her , the door to the house is open all night there is no one watching the house cause there's no front desk person anyone can walk in here , this is so weird and to me rude . I thought for the money we paid , at least we would be greeted by now , they are supposed to have cookies and wine??? When? It never happened last night unless we missed something ?
Besides there are little Dogs that go off on barking fits on and off last night At 10 pm I was almost asleep and these dogs were going off lol, came in to take a nap just now at 1pm and it started again , which prompted me to write this review. I finally seen the innkeeper or owner not sure what , she was sitting downstairs on the phone she looked at me and half smiled and said your going out for a adventure ? I'm thinking wow she was kinda shy and withdrawn like she really didn't want to talk to us , so I just said yes thank u and we left.
So this is our experience , it's a nice place maybe if you don't mind being left to yourself totally, you won't be disappointed . We are nice people who don't like to make waves so we won't complain , but I just feel when u pay to stay at a bed and breakfast , and you pay that much money , you should be at least greeted and made comfortable and we do not feel that way at all, there is suppose to be a special warmth about a b&b , and my husband said it perfectly when he said he felt we were totally neglected and ignored here. We will not be staying here again , and I can't tell u not to come here because the pros are good just the...
Read moreThe Blue Dory is a gem. From the moment you enter the quaint Inn you feel like you're a long-lost family member. Garrison was welcoming and a wealth of information, and his food recommendations were spot on. ||My daughter and I stayed in the Chantilly, a corner room on the second floor. It is small and cozy and has big views and a spacious bathroom. The queen bed is comfy. The room décor is country, and a beautiful vase filled with fresh flowers sat on the dresser and was a lovely touch. ||Wine and nibbles are served around 5:00, and while we were there included red and white wine, lemonade, crackers, cheese, guacamole, chips, homemade pickles (SO good, Holly!), olives, and their famous cookies. I believe the offerings are slightly different each day. We mingled with other guests outside on the small patio, which was lovely.||Breakfast is served downstairs in a cozy and spacious room and our fare included made-to-order eggs, potato dishes, yogurt, homemade granola, a variety of muffins and rolls, English muffins and toast, fresh fruit, and the list goes on. Everything was delicious. ||The Blue Dory sits just off the main street and perches above a pretty stretch of beach. It is a five-minute walk or less from the ferry, and very convenient to all shops and restaurants. We took our car over so that we could explore the island, but bike and moped rentals are everywhere so a car isn't really necessary. ||All in all, we were beyond happy with the Blue Dory. Repeat guests are evidence of the consistent high quality of this sweet Inn. Thank you Garrison, Holly, and other staffers, for making our stay so wonderful. And Ann, THANK YOU for going the extra mile to insure my daughter and I got to enjoy a true Block Island experience we'll...
Read moreWe had a wonderful 1 night stay at the Blue Dory Inn in the cheapest room I’m pretty sure (Ocean Sonnet). It was cozy and had plenty of space for 2 people to move around. Bed was comfortable and we fell asleep hearing the waves crash on the shore through the cracked skylight window. Great location right next to the ferry and downtown area. Everything was clean and the staff were a joy to interact with. The fresh made breakfast included in the room price was delicious and the perfect start to our day, and I really appreciated how every time the manager got a compliment about the food from a guest, he said, “Thank you! She does a great job” pointing the praise to the housekeeper/cook. There are many little touches that make this place so enjoyable, like access to free beach towels and chairs, complimentary wine and cheese hour, and letting us leave our bags after check out because our ferry didn’t get in until later that night. Don’t hesitate to book here!
Also the resident ginger cat was a very sweet surprise at check in. The friendliest cat ever and laid half his body on my lap and the other half on my husband’s lap as we sat on the couch waiting...
