I’m not the kind of person who writes reviews, especially not bad ones. I run a business myself, so I understand how stressful and unpredictable customer service can be. I usually let things go. But what happened to my daughter in your store today wasn’t just poor service. It was unnecessary, condescending, and hurtful.
I was on the phone with her the entire time because I had just activated her new card. She came into your shop and told the cashier she needed to test a new card, and the cashier said it was okay to do so. She’s an authorized user on my account, and my bank had just issued her a replacement after her previous card had been giving her technical issuess. she didn’t want to place a full order, only for the card to fail since she goes there regularly and knows your food is made as soon as an order is taken (not after it’s paid for), so she tried to do the respectful thing: test it first with a $1 banana instead of wasting food incase the new card also gave her issues. (again, the food is made before payment). She even explained that to the cashier.. who again, was fine with it.
The card worked. She then ordered her regular meal, and very politely asked if it might be possible to return the banana, now that it had served its purpose. She wasn’t demanding. She made it clear it was completely fine if not.
But instead of answering her kindly, your staff responded with visible frustration and condescension. She told me that one of the men rolled his eyes, huffed, and gave her a look like she was stupid for even asking. And as if that wasn’t enough, they wouldn’t let it go. Even after she said, “No, it’s okay,” and “It’s not a big deal, no problem,” they kept circling back to it, repeating why they wouldn’t do the return, over-explaining it with a tone that felt like they were lecturing her, not helping her.
She did everything she could to defuse the situation herself. even when she shouldn’t have had to. She kept it calm, respectful, and mature while your staff made her feel embarrassed and singled out.
What they didn’t see was what happened after she walked out. We were still on the phone and she bursted into tears. My daughter has a history of panic attacks. She’s been doing well, and she handles herself with so much grace. But being spoken to like that, made to feel dumb and uncomfortable, especially in front of other customers, triggered all of it.
And as her father, hearing her in that state and knowing I couldn’t do anything about it in that moment.. its one of the most helpless, gut wrenching feelings there is. It wasn’t about the banana. It wasn’t about the refund. It was about how she was treated.
What upsets me most is that she didn’t immediately post about it social media. She has a large following, and most people in her position would’ve gone straight to social media. But she didn’t. She actually told me she didn’t want to damage the store’s reputation, even after they made her cry. That’s who she is. That’s how much grace she gave you. far more than your staff gave her.
As a business owner myself, I’ve dealt with all kinds of people. But no matter how small the issue, you treat people with basic decency. Especially the ones who walk in respectfully, communicate clearly, and try to make things easier for everyone.

Read moreThis is a go-to breakfast and lunch spot because it often has a much shorter wait than other options. The egg and cheese on a bagel is consistently good as is their cold brew. The gigantic muffins they serve are also a big hit for us; the blueberry and mixed berry ones were particularly excellent.
We’ve also tried the shop for lunch. The pesto chicken wrap was a favorite, and the chipotle chicken wrap was good too.
The staff are helpful and friendly. The shop does have a restroom, but it is behind the counter and tucked into a hallway, so it’s necessary to ask to use it, but the staff said yes every time anyone from our group asked.
For folks visiting by bike, there is a rack right near the entrance to the shop. If that one is full, then the rack by the grocery store usually has space. And, if both of those are full, there is a small rack next to the dumpster is the parking lot; it rarely has any...

Nice place to enjoy a breakfast sandwich (they make a great bacon, egg and cheese), or some great pastry and a coffee. My wife and I go there every morning, while on Island It's the ideal spot for people watching at the corners of Ocean, Water, Corn Neck, and Old Town roads.
