AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!
If you're looking for a dirty, run down, roach and rat infested dump that wreaks of cigarettes and weed to lay your head, look no further than the Howard Johnson on Boston Road.
You'll be greeted in the lobby by an attendant behind a bulletproof window who is unkind, unhelpful, rude, arrogant, smug, lazy and unpolished. The lobby boasts prostitutes, addicts and creeps. The hotel has trash on the floor, which attract mice, rats and bugs, outdated furnishings, cracks in the walls and ceilings and a linoleum floor that looks like it hasn't been mopped since Dinkins was in office [that's 1993 for those that don't get the joke].
We read the bad reviews and still decided to book a two queen bed at this disgusting, sketchy, low budget hotel right next to an elevated train that shakes the hotel every 4-6 minutes. Upon arrival, we were given one King sized bed, then returned to the lobby and politely asked the man behind the bulletproof glassed counter to change it to 2 queens. Thinking, no big deal, mistakes happen.
He said we need to call our agent and tell them, he can't change reservations. Why would any self-respecting agent refer their clients to this terrifying hellhole? We told him we booked direct through Howard Johnson and had our confirmation number. He asked to see the e-mail which we told him we never received. He then read off his screen an e-mail that the confirmation was sent to and the e-mail didn't exist. Can't make this stuff up. The wonderful and competent people at Howard Johnson made up a fake e-mail to send our confirmation to.
While this was all going on, some scumbag john came in and asked what the hourly rate was. The man behind the counter looked unfazed and said "Come back in 30 minutes." The guy went back outside and him and his lady friend who barely looked 18 and the two disappeared into the night.
We ended up canceling the room and asking for a refund, where the man behind the counter smugly informed us he can't do that and we have to call Howard Johnson. If he can't change reservations or issue refunds, why is he even there?
We left, cutting our vacation short thanks to the creeps at this establishment. It ruined our whole trip. If you're looking to stay in the Bronx at a hotel, stay at one of these fine establishments instead:
Opera House Hotel Residence Inn Ramada Inn
You may pay a few more dollars but it's worth it to save on the headache of dealing with the absolute worse customer service I've ever experienced with the Howard Johnson Express Inn on Boston Road. Never again!
Read this review, and book elsewhere. Learn from my mistake. This place is a dangerous drug den and prostitution spot and should be shut down by the city and not be in business. DO NOT STAY AT...
Read moreoh boy, if we had an option for NO stars or 0 stars, we would of selected it... As to my wife and I chose to visit the Bronx as one of our stops on our honeymoon, we stayed here for 3 days.. Now we generally take our own linen and pillows. .On day 1, 07/13/18, we checked in approximately 1:45pm, we were making the bed we noticed torn, stained and ripped sheets. Not to mention drugs and drug parfenila, (crack) we immediately contacted sraff, they offered nothing at first, after 2 hours on the phone, Staff requested for us to A- change rooms, or B- checkout, Even though we already had reservations in the Bronx ( we should of left!) We went with option A-, we changed rooms. on day 2,-07/14/18, we enjoyed the day in Zoo, , upon returning we observed a short haired valet driver consuming alcoholic beverages in the lobby, between retrieving guests vehicles... Later on that evening/early morning we decide to go out, we had our vehicle brought to us by a male valet driver wearing a hat and glasses (later identified as "Sal") When we returned, "Sal," parked our vehicle at an off site location without our knowledge, On day 3-07/15/18, my wife and I, after a great day in NYC, decided to grab something to eat, as to the snacks in the vending machine were and probably are still expired ( The Doritos expired in June 2018 .) We returned and "Sal" brought the keys to us 45 minutes later.. The next time we saw our car it fashioned a nice new big dent on the driver fender panel. At this point it seemed like the staff got amnesia forgetting each other's names, claiming that nobody knows anybody. NYPD, had to be contacted, causing our honeymoon to be inconvenienced another 4 hours, between phone calls to insurance companys and NYPD in efforts to resolve this.So needless to say a picture speaks louder than words, take a look for yourself below.Oh, and the building only has one iron, & ironing board without a cover, & No phonebook so glad we didn't stay...
Read moreI wish i could give this hotel ZERO stars. this was the WORST hotel ive ever stay in. i chose this hotel because i am from the bronx and i only needed it for the night. The WORST DECISION OF MY LIFE. Lets start with the parking. Which was located down the smallest driveway ever. and only had 6 small parking spots. so somebody car is bound to get hit. there was no access to the hotel from the parking lot which means had to walk u the steepest driveway, mind you i have a torn ligament in my knee.. so i was in pain. I went to get my room, the front desk guy was super rude and demanded that i pay in cash and not on my card. at this time there was a man screaming about not having his room cleaned since 8 am. we get to our room ( no elevator & had to walk up steps) the hallway was old and run down i felt like i was walking thru an asylum. The room was horrible. We got two funky pillows that were more like pillows for infants because they were so small. Two of the outlets in the bathroom were coming out of the wall (fire Hazard) our wash rags were not cleaned.. our towels were big enough to use for a child not a grown adult. the bed didnt even have fitted sheets. it had to cover sheets and a super thin "blanket" i paid $207 and had the worse experience of my life. Never found the free breakfast that was advertised. When my boyfriend checked us out i told him to get a receipt for the room. When i finally made it home to Maryland i notice that on the receipt the room was $140 in cash.. so please explain to me what happened to the other $67?? i want my...
