I'm so glad that we were able to stay at this location. The owners were very welcoming, inviting and hospitable. After a 10.5 hr drive coming up from smokey California, I was relieved to have finally made it safely with my family to the motel. I believe in first impressions and when I entered the front lobby, I was greeted with a smile from the front desk person Elizabeth. The front desk is shielded to protect your host and yourself upon your arrival. The lobby was clean and inviting. Elizabeth and I had a nice conversation about the weather and I told her how long our trip was and she recommended I try their hot tub to relax my muscles (which I wish I had done but I forgot). While we were conversing, one of the owners of the motel also joined into the conversation and she offered me a bottle of water. We also had a dog with us and just paid an additional $20 per night which was pretty reasonable.
After I had received my key cards, my family and I headed to our rooms. Our room location was perfect as it was close by the back door and easily accessible to the nearby parking lot where we parked our minivan. There is plenty of parking on the property. The room was simple- 2 queen beds, very clean and the sink was surprisingly outside the room rather than inside the bathroom. I actually liked the idea of having the sink outside because you don't have to wait until the person inside the bathroom is done doing their business. The bathroom has a seating area where you can place your clothes next to the toilet and the inside was very spacious. Since we had a dog with us, I was thinking there was designated rooms for dog owners, but to my surprise, the room that we stayed in didn't have any foul odor of any dogs that may have stayed before us. Our dog happens to be hypo-allergenic and he has no smell. I bet the next guests who will be staying in our room couldn't even tell a dog was there prior to their visit.
The shower-head was perfectly placed for short people like myself, and it was relaxing to take a warm shower especially after that long drive. During our initial stay in the area, we couldn't find any available rooms in Newberg, so we stayed in Tigard at the Embassy Suites. Their beds were not as great as the one here in Travelodge- man I slept like a baby for the first night and even better the 2nd. The pillows were just your standard cotton-ball bags with no firmness, but it didn't matter to me because the bed was so comfy it made up for everything else. I also like how the soda machine was so cloe to our room, maybe just 10 steps away. On our first morning there, we headed to the dining area to pick-up our to-go breakfast bags that had a simple bagel with cream cheese and muffin. There was also some fruit, coffee and juice available as well. Had it not have been for this COVID, I'm sure we would have enjoyed some bacon, eggs and other offerings. I'm just fortunate that the motel was able to offer a simple to-go bag at least. The food was enough to get us through to lunch. We're so fortunate to have stayed at this facility and now we're calling it our go-to motel. The reason why we chose to stay here was because it was the closest we can get in proximity to George Fox University and to our surprise, many other families associated with the University also stayed at the hotel the same time we did. The manager and his wife are very friendly and I almost forgot to add, there is plenty of grass area for your little pooch to do his or...
Read moreResponding to your comment below...the email response you gave with the “extract I received from Expedia” which is strange following your comment on the phone that you didn’t get a cancellation from Expedia. Both the document that you provided as well as the copy of the cancellation email I received show that it was canceled the day before over 24 hours prior to when my reservation was for. Expedia does state that the hotel MAY charge a penalty fee but Expedia doesn’t and to contact the hotel, which I did. I would love to write this off to a misunderstanding that can be corrected but am struggling with the effort you are requiring to do so. Thank you for the number to Expedia. I am sure they will be interested in the details. We have stayed here before and for the most part it was fine. I have seen the people be extremely nice and also seen the man be pretty rude but I assumed there was a backstory so didn’t really think about it. Now I know. I booked through Expedia because when you google it pops up first. We had something come up where it was going to be difficult for us to stay so we were deciding that maybe we should cancel. It says free cancellation up to a certain date so I did but when I got the email from Expedia it says the hotel can charge a penalty so contact them. I called and a girl answered. When I explained she said she couldn’t see the cancellation yet because she had to wait for notification from Expedia and that I should call back before noon to make sure. I did and she said they got it. I confirmed with her that there would be no charge and she said there wouldn’t be. I found that I got charged for the full night stay over a week later so I called back. It took me calling twice to get someone to answer and it was the man. We went through the situation and he said Expedia never canceled. I explained again how I had called and the girl was waiting for the notice from Expedia and how she confirmed they got it and there would be no charge. He became even more rude. I told him I was looking for the email from Expedia that he had said to send him. Talking while looking I asked why the girl would have told me that and he said his girls never would. I told him that doesn’t make sense that I would know how they have to get notified by Expedia unless she told me and he said to call Expedia “they are experts at goofing things up”. I told him we have never had problems before and that since we go down several times a year if this is the way we would be treated should we go somewhere else....he hung up on me! Seriously I would give them no stars if possible! I feel odd taking time to do my first ever review for this but feel that it is important to let people know when someone treats customers this poorly! Customer service is not just taking someone’s money when things go without problems but actually caring enough to make sure problems are corrected and take steps to prevent them...
Read moreUpdate: Despite what management says below both my dad and I looked for coffee in the lobby at separate times and there was none to be found. My dad even asked the desk clerk and they said none after breakfast is put away.
Traveling through on our way home and stopped for the night. If you are coming from the North into town the sign to the hotel is not easy to see until you are almost on top of it because it is partially hidden by a closed restaurant so keep your eyes open. The hotel is not very tall either so you don't see the building until you are right next to it. The hotel has plenty of parking spaces but it didn't seem to be very bust since there were only 2 or 3 other cars. The clerk at the desk was friendly and helpful. The lobby is clean and tidy. Breakfast is only served from 6 - 8:30 am so we didn't get that to be able to comment in the breakfast. There is no coffee available in the lobby. They don't allow you to take any breakfast items to your room and must be eaten in the dining room, I saw a sign. The room was neat and clean. The fan from the A/C unit has an air freshener or a filter with air freshener in it because there is a pleasant scent coming into the room when it is on. The refrigerator had a loud hum but it was consistent and quickly just became a part of the background noise and not too bothersome after awhile. The fridge is a small one but there is a separate freezer compartment. There is a small microwave in the room as well. The beds were comfortable. Not a bad place to stay and a reasonable cost. I would stay here again and recommend it to...
