I write this as I sit in the bed of room 155 at 3 am listening to a train go by, wishing I could make the room cool enough to get a good night's sleep. Studies show that ideal sleeping temp is between 60°-67° F so I don't know why, an establishment you pay to sleep at, wouldn't let you turn down the room temperature below 68°, but this one doesn't. If the temps don't get you, then how about the pillows? There are 4 pillows, and every one of them is a flat feather pillow (maybe synthetic feather. Idk if they even sell real feather pillows anymore). Go ahead, try scrunching, stacking, or folding them, just don't expect to actually sleep on them. That being said, the bed is pretty comfy, and the sheets are nice and seem clean. Let's move on to the lack-luster bathroom with good water pressure as long as you like your shower scalding hot. If you try to turn it down to a temp that you won't get 3rd degree burns at, the water pressure goes from great to a trickle that barely gets the shampoo out of your hair. The bathroom does have a light that automatically goes on when you walk in, so that's nice. In my room, the toilet seat is on crooked, so that isn't very comfortable, but that's probably not the case in every room. The lighting in the bathroom is great for going green but not great for putting on makeup. The bathroom seems cleaned well. The room we are in is a studio. Here is the layout: As you walk into the room, to your right is the bathroom, to your left is the closet. As you walk a little further in, beyond the entry, you walk into the rest of the room. To your left, next to the closet, is an apartment size fridge and a small kitchenette with a 2 burner stove, dishwasher, microwave, kitchen sink with a separate filtered water faucet (I love this feature!), and all the pans, dishes, & utensils you'd need to make your own meals and eat in. To your left is a little bar height table overlooking the bed. Straight ahead is the couch (facing the door, not the tv) & a large window. On the adjacent wall, in the corner, is a desk with a large TV mounted to the wall above it. The room is a nice size and the kitchenette is the big seller, although I didn't use it much. I went to use one of the provided glasses but they were all a little dirty. No worries, they provide you with a small bottle of Palmolive so I was just going to wash one but couldn't get the water hot. This was in the evening, thank goodness I took my shower in the morning when there was still hot water available. I let the water run for about 5 minutes, thinking it might heat up, but it never did. The breakfast yesterday morning consisted of a cheese omelet, 2 pieces of turkey bacon, & 2 pieces of French toast with whipped cream and berries served at the counter to you. Self serve was bagels, toast, cereal, and a yogurt bar. It was pretty good. At the evening reception from 5-6:30 they have a little self service cart with the selection of an ipa, light lager, red wine, or white wine. They also offered cheese, olives, & french bread. It was a nice little offering. The ambiance of the lobby is nice with a bunch of big couches and good music. The hotel shares a courtyard with the neighboring hotel and, as far as I can tell, they also share the pool and gym. Speaking of, the gym was a nice size with the treadmills looking out over the courtyard. The pool is small, but the area is nice. I think it said it is 3'-6" deep. It would be fine for some water aerobics or for 3, maybe 4, kids to play in, but it's not very big - definitely not a lap pool. Location is fairly good depending on what you came to do. As far as I can tell, there's no event venue or great shopping nearby but I came for work so haven't really looked. There is a nice restaurant district right across the highway from here with a lot of good choices. You don't hear the highway noise at all but you do kind of hear the train as I alluded to previously. Everyone I've met on staff is amazing however, I don't think I'd stay here again due to the pillows, room temp, &...
Read moreI am a titanium elite member, I was transitioning from Georgia to Kansas City, a very sudden & abrupt move. I made the reservation under the govt rate on April 22nd. I went to check in after driving 12+ hrs...the young lady at the front desk & had an attitude through the check in process asked me for my govt ID which I had no idea where it was between here & Georgia. She eventually checked me in anyway still under the same rate. Apparently it didn't go through on their end because I was asked to swipe my card again. When I got to my room I realized that there were two pre-authorizations on my card for the room. There was no point in me going back to address it with her she already had an attitude and I definitely would have gotten an attitude and there was nothing that could be done about it because it was a pre-authorization floating around and pre-authorization land until they settle the transaction. My room was subpar as far as cleanliness goes. They did honor my 4p.m. request for checkout. It took me until May 16th to get the issue resolved with the duplicate pre-authorization and when that pre-authorization was pending it put my account in the negative which caused me a lot more problems. Yesterday I got an email from someone named Miguel I'm assuming he is a manager at this hotel contacting me asking me about my government rate telling me that it was tax exempt and that I needed to provide documentation or my ID or there would be more charges basically I would have to pay whatever taxes were exempt from my rate. This is over a month later mind you after this ordeal with my bank account He's emailing me about something so petty and ridiculous as far as I'm concerned he should have taken that up with the young lady that checked me in and allowed me to check in despite me not having my ID. I have never had this happen and all of the times that I have used the government rate at a Marriott or any hotel for that matter it was rude and very...
Read moreIn summary, a newer hotel with affordable rates, run by an excellent staff, with only a few kinks to work out.
We stayed here for two days over the Labor Day weekend and we’re VERY happy with our stay, even with our “unwelcome guests”. Let’s just get that out of the way.
Shortly after we arrived and had already unpacked, we found ants on our counter. There weren’t many so we didn’t think much about it, but by the next afternoon a few had turned into dozens. After setting down some spearmint we had and running hot water and soap down the garbage disposal they weren’t as big of a deal, which leads me to believe housekeeping wasn’t thorough in cleaning the kitchen area. We also noticed a layer of dust under the couch and a tennis ball, as well as some knock off air pods wedged between the mattress and the wall. This is why we took off the one star. Had we not settled in, we would have asked for a room change but with a toddler in tow dealing with the ants was the easier of the two options.
That aside, our stay was great. The staff was super helpful in suggesting local dining options as well as activities to substitute for our rained out zoo day.
Breakfast was well done considering Covid. Hot options were available along with standard prepackaged pastries and cereal.
Aside from the ants, the rate we paid for our “suite” was well worth everything. Next time we’re in Kansas City we will definitely stay here again. Can’t...
