I rarely write reviews but for those who are planning to stay at the Sea Watch Resort need to know this information. First of all, most if not all of their units are privately owned which we did not know at the time of our booking. Since there is not a minimum standard of care/furnishings required with each unit, it's a random shot if you get a high quality unit that has been maintained well. I'm not talking about the cleaning service; rather, I'm talking about the overall condition of the unit. We were assigned to unit #1714 in the North Tower. Upon arrival, all the furniture was a mismatch assortment coming from a second-hand used store. The refrigerator light was dangling whereas I jerry-rigged it during our stay. The light above the stove was burnt out. The towel rack in one of the bathrooms was broken. The carpet was excessively torn (not worn) especially in the area from the kitchen floor to the living room. Finally, the plastic furniture on the balcony was so old and dirty we would put our beach towels over them before sitting. Additionally, the wi-fi at the resort is outdated because every day especially during the afternoons channel overcrowding would occur, preventing you from accessing it. When I would turn it off on my phone such that I could access Verizon's network, it would run too slow or not access the info I was seeking due to the weak signal there at the resort. I will also mention the blood-stained fitted sheet that was on the king-sized bed which I immediately took off and took it downstairs to the front desk for a replacement. Finally, I had to personally clean up all the large food droppings under one of the cushions (discovered them when one of my friends took it off to use as a pillow on the other sofa) of the loveseat. Overall, outside the amenities and location our overall experience was very disappointing if not borderline disgusting. Clearly, we had the unpleasant experience of staying in a unit owned by a slumlord and careless oversight by the resort's cleaning service made it worse. It is frustrating knowing that the slumlord who owns unit #1714 received a majority percentage of the amount we spent staying there for a week. Yes, we asked for a different unit with a similar ocean front view but they were fully booked or were being lived in by their respective owners. Not all units are this bad, obviously, 1712 next to us was a very nice and modern 1 BR unit with wood floors, stainless steel appliances, and matching furniture (the cleaning people left the curtains opened after the guests left where we were able to look inside). However, that was what we were expecting when we booked our stay. Instead, we felt like our unit belonged at a run down hotel. So, if you're planning to book your stay at Sea Watch Resort - beware!
P.S. I made several attempts to contact mgt including a voicemail to contact me about our stay. They never responded
Re: Response from Heather Lee - General Manager We stayed at Sea Watch from May 7-14. It was booked under my girlfriend's name. For obvious reasons I will only giver her initials M.F. but with this information you should have no problems finding it. That is why you could not find it under my name. During the course of our stay I came to the front desk numerous times to try to talk to you. You were either in meetings, not available, or late coming in as you were on May 14 when we were checking out. I got to know your front desk people so well during that week one found out about my background and asked me for some advice. I kindly obliged and gave him some ideas about investing for his future. While eating breakfast at Blueberry's Grill in Barefoot Landing after we checked out I called you twice. The first time you still were not at the resort. The second time I left you a detailed voicemail which you never returned. That was on May 14 around 10:30 am. I wrote this review on May 26. It is obvious that the voicemail was deleted. If you have anything to offer for our disappointing stay feel free to contact us. You now have our...
Read moreCelebrating my daughter's 8th grade graduation, I selected this resort after research. Without going into all the details.... Booked for my daughter, myself/significant other, mom and sister. I was at the front desk when the call came in that the room was clean and I proceeded to the room. Unfortunately, one of the bathroom toilets had waste matter in that toilet, which was unsettling seeing that I was just informed that the room was clean. Later upon more inspection of the room, some of the furniture was outdated, it was dusty and had a mustiness about it, we weren't sure we should trust the sheets on the beds and the dishes in the cabinets looked like they had not been cleaned for sometime i.e. simply not up to our standards. We spent the first day of our vacation cleaning that unit. Also, whenever we would dial 0 from any room in the unit for assistance,( as indicated on their welcome brochure), nobody answered the call. Anytime we needed assistance we walked over to the registration area which was in the North Tower and we were in the South Tower. It's a larger resort, which is good, but an inconvenience when technology is not used to communicate more effectively.
Needless to say after further discussion with the general manager (Heather) regarding our concerns, we did receive the monetary refund we requested and additional benefits to utilize at the resort.
There were/are several saving graces to this place: Mark at the front desk has outstanding customer service skills and thinks quickly on his feet. Continue to have him as your front-man as he brings value to your organization and a sense of calm to patrons. If anyone has problems; I'd recommend speaking to him. Will save you some time and lend some calmness to the matter! Most of the staff was friendly and helpful. The non-free cooked to order breakfast is hot and delicious. The breakfast buffet is about equivalent to other resort buffets. Enough pools, space etc. Tiki Bar is nice and night bartender great. Pools open to 11pm Very close to highway 17 and all the main stores, attractions etc. The location was fantastic! The access to the beach was great and our ocean front view unbeatable with a large enough balcony for all of us to comfortable fit and enjoy. They have a Starbucks onsite; however, you will have to find out what time(s) it opens and closes as they vary. Remember you will need to walk to North Tower each time to get Starbucks, restaurant etc.
To sum it up, I'll be back to Myrtle Beach but unfortunately not to this resort. The drawbacks of the experience outweighed the benefits for this family milestone. Maybe others have and/or will have a...
Read moreGiving this resort 1 star is too good of a rating... The resort was easy enough to find and the lobby, although dated appeared to be clean. No one was at the front desk, no sign to indicate how to request help, so we waited for about 5 minutes or more till someone came out. The unremarkable, friendly enough staff gave us our room key and we made our way to room 811 in the south tower. Upon walking in the room, we were greeted with a smell that could only be described as an overpowering, nauseating, musty stench. We returned to the desk, to wait again for someone to come out. Upon explaining the problem, she told us she would have housekeeping go clean the room. We told her that was unacceptable, that we would not stay in that room. She then gave us room 307 in the north tower. Entering this room, the smell was much better, although now we had two full size beds instead of a king. Upon sitting on the bed, it was clear the mattress and boxspring were possibly the cheapest ever made. They sank so far, I was squatting on the floor. The accumulation of dust on the lamps and TV made it clear the room was not well kept. Finding hair in the shower and a clogged bathroom sink was enough to prompt a call to the front desk. However, the phones in the room weren't in working order, so I had to use Google to find a number and call from my cell phone. Automation at its best, I left a message that was never answered. Fortunately, they called my wife to inquire if we planned on checking in 😳. Maintenance and housekeeping showed up rather promptly and the sink issue was resolved quickly and cleaned up. We left the room prior to housekeeping arriving and Upon returning, still found hair in the tub and cigarette ashes on a chair on the deck. Oh and the showerhead? Good pressure, just make sure you're under 5'4" tall or you'll have to squat down to wash your face and hair. I'm sure I could go on, but ill not make you suffer reading more. The owners should be appalled that Sea Watch allows thier room to be treated with such lack of care and should definitely be more involved. Because this was part of a fundraising golf package, the reservations were not made by us and we had no control over them. Had we booked it ourselves, a refund would have been demanded and we would have found a much more suitable place to stay.
Sea Watch, you can save your pre-written responses, we will never give you another chance and will let our friends know to stay...
