If you're the right kind of traveler, this spot is a great value and deserves all the rave reviews. It's cute and quaint and fairly cheap. It just wasn't right for me as a practical person, germophobe, and control freak who wants a private, functional room to sleep in, shower, and get on the road.||My complaint is that the whole motel uses central A/C and heat, which means all the rooms share circulated air. Not only do rooms lack a thermostat, but more importantly, your vents are likely spewing out germs and odors from guests in all the other rooms. If you're concerned about COVID or contagions in general, this isn't a minor point. I've stayed in over 100 motels across dozens of states, mostly on the cheaper side, and have never seen this anywhere else. It's mystifying why they can't just put in cheap window units like virtually every old time roadside motel in the US, which would single-handedly make Husker Inn nearly perfect.||Air aside, the rooms are a bit small and cramped, but fairly standard for a 50s-style motel. Otherwise, my impressions were mostly positive: the room was as superficially clean as any I've ever stayed in at this price. The bed, microwave, and minifridge were all a step or two above what you'd typically find in a bare bones roadside motel. The shower had good water pressure. I will say that on a warm, muggy night, the central A/C was at least set fairly cool, so I was able to sleep well. But I'm sure some people who prefer one temperature extreme or the other would've had trouble sleeping.||This is a family owned and operated location where they appear to live on the property and do everything themselves. Super late check-in won't be an option. Check-in is not as fast as a chain; the host even walks you to your room before giving you your physical key. Muffins and coffee are available in the tiny front office in the morning, but there's only room there for about one person at a time.||I'd advise thinking of the Husker Inn more like a pretty good private bedroom inside someone's home on AirBnB, rather than a traditional motel. If that sounds appealing for the price and you don't mind sharing air with other guests, by all means, go for it. For my personal preferences, I'd probably look at the similarly priced and also highly rated America's Best Value Inn across the road if I'm ever back in NP.||My rating may seem harsh given all the positives, but I can't get past the fact that guests don't know about the shared HVAC until they've paid and walked into the room. It's reasonable for anyone booking a MOTEL in the 21st century to assume they're getting room-by-room climate control and separate ventilation, especially with the highly contagious, airborne COVID in the world now. If the owners can throw in some window units, I'll be happy to return and rate...
Read moreFirst call to book was great.but then.. it began. Was told they would run the card morning of checkin but instead they ran it the night prior after being informed that the card would changed. At check in, had to wait to be walked to a room about 12 min. Must give car details and sign a statement that they aren’t responsible for stolen items. The sheets had stains. The tvs require your personal sign in for Roku or cannot be used. WiFi not given at checking or offered unless you ask. The floor was not vacuumed well. All the windows were very dirty. Shower had no working fan. Not allowed to lock your own deadbolt when you leave the property you have to have them do it and they aren’t available after 11pm. All linens must be exchanged you cannot have extras. Toilet was so close to the tub you had to sit sideways. Room had previously been broken into, damage was visible evidence. Told no pets allowed but owners walk a dog around the property. No control of thermostat. Can’t leave the door open, yet the man in the room next door the night before left his open for 3 hours while he cleaned his bike and they didn’t bother him about it once. They look in your room windows when walking by multiple time an hour, harass you if you leave the door open and accuse you of smoking in the rooms in an attempt to get the $250 fee. The staff stepped into the room on two occasions without permission while harassing me. Sketchy behavior by staff and no respect for privacy; down right violating it. While the property itself was quaint, and had a 4.5 star rating that left me hopeful to arrive, it was not even close to comfortable, accommodating or private by any means. I had to file a police report against them for harassment and documented everything including the multiple times he looked through the window and came to the door. NEVER AGAIN! Quality inn was worth the few extra bucks. Anywhere else would have been a better choice. If you are young, have children or are a female traveling alone I would recommend staying far far away from this place of business.
FYI: The only photos here are the stained sheets and the poorly vacuumed floor at check in. All the others are videos and too long...
Read moreDon't ever stay at Husker Inn or recommend it to anyone. Kept security deposit from 2 different accounts, the individual and his job that paid for a couple nights for him. They had the audacity to go and make up damages. The person stayed 12 days and when they checked out the company got a messsge they were being charged for damages like more than double the amount of original bill. They have no proof of pictures to prove anything to show what it was before, said things were missing, before asking or looking. They said the frame was broken, but when I looked at the frame the next day it was leaning but when i checked out and left the room the morning before the frame and bed was standing straight up. You would know if something like frame was broke because the way it was sitting you would definitely know it was broke because you would not being laying properly. Then there was a couple scuff marks on box spring, i asked do you have pictures to show that those marks weren't there already and they said no. So just because they say it with no prior proof, they can charge total 375 in charges. The room was used for 12 days and was taken care of for them to threaten that there was 4000 bucks worth of damage and cleaning. I would say are you not going to sanitize and re-clean before next customers. Still at this moment the so called list is out there and the 375 dollar bill charges are there. They send a list of stuff they feel was damaged, but as far as I am concerned they have insurance they probably going to file and collect both. Towels get stains and if they pay 132 bucks for a bath towel maybe they should get else where. Anyway if you stay at this motel I would suggest bringing your own bed, bedding, towels and maybe just sleep in your car...
