This place needs to be on the TV show "Hotel Impossible." Everything I am about to say I have only seen on the horrors of that show! Where do I begin?! Checked in after 3:30, but the room was not ready because they were "fixing the door." Go to the restaurant, was told it was closed for the day; closed at 2pm. Supposed to have breakfast, lunch & dinner. Never saw anyone eating in there the 2 days we stayed. Go to the bar and was told that half the drinks on the drink list could not be made because she was out of the ingredients. Chose this place for the oceanfront views, restaurant on site and the bar--2/3 were already a let-down. We stayed with another couple and when booking on the phone with Nick, asked if we could be next-door to one another. (He also told me I would likely get a discount upon coming, he had to see. But if anything, this was $200 more for 2 nights total, than what we were figuring we were paying. With taxes and fees it was $350 a night to stay in the dirtiest, oldest, uncared room I have ever stayed in.) My friends had the 2nd floor, we had the 5th w/a totally different and pricier layout. I never asked for that. It was a 2-room efficiency with a kitchenette that we didn't need or ask for, and for being an upgrade of sorts, the bed situation in the front room was only a full size and a twin. So now we get a smaller bed than we wanted. Yes the view on the 5th floor was great--this was the only thing that was good the whole time. The problem was the front door was completely wrecked like a police raid had happened there. See pics. It locked, but my boyfriend said he felt anxious about the whole thing. Plus, we met a man and his daughter who told us he just turned that room down because he refused to stay due to the door. Decided to talk to front desk--which was a very young girl who didn't even know about the door situation and I explained I wanted to be near my friends who had a less expensive room, and we didn't ask for this, and then of course the biggest concern was that my boyfriend decided the room was unsafe. The girl said my best bet was to call Nick directly since he left. Then another lady chatted with her and next thing we get moved to a new room on the same floor. This room now had a bad smell. Mildew, musty. The bathroom smelled like feet--which is what happens when you clean with a mop harboring mold and bacteria, and use dirty water. I immediately checked the beds for bedbugs and stains. Luckily no bugs but stains on sheets and one pillow under the case had a dried, crusty orange stain--threw that onto the twin bed and didn't use. The ceilings in both rooms were peeling and cracked, falling apart. The vents were gross and right over any hanging clothes. Dirt in corners of vanity. Greasy marks in sink. Tub faucet was loose, showerhead had dark stuff all around it. We had ants on the kitchenette counters, couldn't leave anything on them. We were so skeeved out, we left all our belongings on the round kitchen table and wouldn't touch the floor, sofa, or chairs. Wore flip-flops the entire time, would never go barefoot here. Wore them in the shower too, because I will not risk getting some weird foot issue. Wore socks to bed. Barely slept on this bed--which moved too much with every small movement from the other person-- and one missing stained pillow meant I was sore. Met a lady in the elevator who said she had cancer; needs to spray down and sanitize places she visits--she turned over the sofabed cushion and it had dried vomit on it that was so old, it literally had mold growing on it. I should have left right then. I could not believe she stayed there and switched rooms. Shows the lack of cleaning! Appearance of this place inside is atrocious; beautiful Greek fountain in the lobby to trick you into thinking they take pride--yet every plate-glass door is shattered, lights falling down, no ice machine worked. Room left our clothes damp! Freezing! Restaurant smelled. Lobby candle awful to cover up. Take some pride! Fix it all! Stop with fancy fountains; make...
Read more3 stays in 2024, 2 stays in 2025. No more stays for me. Let me start this by saying I really wanted to leave the Acropolis a good review, but I just can’t. I have some very happy memories from staying here with family and friends back in the late 90’s–early 2000’s, and because of sentimental reasons, I’m probably a little more tolerant of the conditions here than most—but a recent experience has soured me on ever staying here again. All the negative reviews you’ve read here are mostly accurate, and the purpose of this review is to save you from having similar experiences.
Our Issue: We checked in and went directly to the beach. Shortly afterward, my girlfriend realized she forgot something and went back to the room. Upon arrival, she was surprised to find our door wide open with a man lying under the sink making a repair. He said he was also coming back the following day to finish. Our wallets, computers, some cash, and other personal belongings were all out in plain view. Someone could have easily entered and grabbed our things. When my girlfriend complained to the front desk about why we weren’t notified and why they put us here knowing the repairs were needed, she was approached by Jennifer, a woman we’d seen previously but had never met. Jennifer identified herself as a co-owner and proceeded to say she didn’t think it was a big deal, that she travels often—and it wouldn’t bother her. After some back and forth, she gave us a different room.
On the day we checked out, we stopped to discuss our issue with Nick, as he’s who we normally book our stays with. Jennifer walked over and sarcastically commented that she was sorry she hurt our feelings. From the beginning, had she just apologized, you wouldn’t be reading this, and we’d probably be booking another stay here. So Jennifer, I should thank you. You knocked the sentimental reasons right out of me, and we will be booking future stays in better-run motels that appreciate our business.
Pros: It’s directly across from the beach. If you’re lugging a bunch of chairs, umbrellas, bags, etc., you’ll appreciate the proximity. The views are probably the best on the island. You have an unobstructed view of the ocean and beach. There’s a nice little restaurant located off the lobby where you can get breakfast and lunch. The pool is probably the biggest in the area, and while we didn’t use it, it appears to be nicely maintained. All of the staff we encountered—not named Jennifer—are very nice and accommodating.
Cons: The AC is terrible—it’s never worked properly during any of our stays—and it’s noisy. The front desk will give you a box fan as a solution. The lone elevator services all floors, and the wait times are long during busy periods. The property is very dated and needs maintenance. On-site parking during busy periods may be an issue, as they rent spaces to beachgoers. Jennifer—she thinks she’s better than you.
Tips: If your options are limited and you decide to give this place a try, I recommend the following: When heading to the beach, exit toward the 4th Street side of the property. The 3rd Street beach entrance is closed due to the sand being washed out in 2024–25. If you’re reading this in the future, you may want to check to see if the sand has been replenished. Avoid an end unit, as they don’t have back windows. This is important during hot/high-humidity periods, as front-to-back airflow is limited. Interior units get a better breeze, which helps if the AC isn’t working. (It won’t be.) If you have a problem, talk to Nick; he’s very nice and has helped us in the past. Avoid Jennifer—she thinks she’s better than you. If you are looking for better accommodations in this area, you may want to consider the Aloha, Athens, or Alante, as they have similar beach proximity and are better run. And lastly, I’d be suspect of any positive reviews (other than restaurant, pool and view) you read here. Take your time and read through them all. You’ll see plenty of comments supporting what I’ve...
Read moreJust returned from a one week stay at this dinosaur with our family. We booked 2 rooms. Room 506 and room 407. There are only a few good things about this hotel. It's location, which was perfect, the AC (very cold but could be adjusted), the spotty internet and every room is ocean front. Yes, I said spotty internet, because I was happy to at least have some connection. The hotel is run down, dingy, dirty and smelly. We walked into the lobby and could not figure our what the smell was. It was not the musty smell of beach houses but a dirty farm animal smell. We followed the trail of its oder and it lead us right into the restaurant. Needless to say, we never ate one meal there. The elevator was filthy which seems to me, to be one of the easiest things you can clean (see pic). The foyer on our floor had chipped ceiling and wall paint. Not a little chipped paint here and there, but, large obvious decaying paint. Upon entering the room it had that musty smell. I understand, most of the hotels in the Wildwoods have that distinct smell, since, we have been visiting Wildwood for over 20 years on and off. But, now that I am home all of our clothing has taken on the smell, so, now my house smells musty. Everything needs to be washed whether we wore it or not. The room was falling apart. Please see pictures. 4.The pool was cloudy all week and the seagulls seem to have found a swamp to swim in and drink from. My understanding of a chlorinated pool is, if a bird can drink it you don't have the right amount of it in the pool to protect it from algae and bacteria growing. So, we never went in the pool. The kiddie pool was even cloudier and green. The area around the pool is a rock cement walkway, so, you can not walk barefoot around the pool or rip up your feet. The maid service stinks. Our beds were made everyday looking like a 3 year old made it (see pics). They never cleaned the table, counters, sinks, bed stands, or floors. Thus the reason for ants, yes, ants!!! So, I guess maid service just means making the bed. The sliding glass door was never cleaned before our stay and was never cleaned during the week. It was hard to stay there but, since I booked one of the rooms through, Booking.com, I had to give a 50% deposit, and since their policy is, up 30 days prior to your stay you can not cancel, it meant if I walked out at that point I would have lost $1800. Our biggest mistake was not looking at the room first before paying up front. I might have had an option to find a cleaner safer room. I will never do that again. The best thing about this hotel is the location and the view you get from your room. It is close to the restaurants and bars and seeing and hearing the ocean everyday was therapeutic. Glad to be home and will...
