My partner and I checked in earlier this week at night, following a medical procedure at the VA. We specifically chose this IHG property for its proximity to the VA.
However, our experience was far from what we anticipated. We planned to rest and recover before our five-hour drive out, but starting at midnight and lasting until 6:30 AM, there was continuous loud noise from the room above us. The disturbance was so severe that none of us, including our dog, were able to sleep. Our dog, who has a history of trauma from an abusive home, barked and whined throughout the night, clearly anxious and terrified by the noise.
I reported the issue multiple times to the night auditors, Julie and Nicole, who were incredibly empathetic and professional. They even came to our room and confirmed the noise was loud and disruptive. Despite their best efforts to locate the source of the disturbance, they were unable to resolve the issue.
After several trips to the front desk and numerous complaints, I asked to check out early and receive a refund. I was informed that only the General Manager, Dawn, could handle such requests when she arrived in the morning. Reluctantly, we had no choice but to endure the rest of the night without rest.
The following morning, I spoke with Dawn to explain the horrific night we had endured. She informed me that the guest above was an extended stay and that I was only there for one night, which showed she regarded profits over comfort of all guest. Unfortunately, her response was dismissive and lacking in any concern. When I requested a refund, she inaccurately claimed that I didn’t report the noise until 5 AM. I corrected her, noting that I had complained at least five times before then. After further discussion, she begrudgingly offered a partial refund, which I declined. I requested a full refund, as all three of us were profoundly disturbed throughout the night. It wasn’t until I mentioned my IHG membership that she began to take my concerns more seriously.
As a veteran, partnered to an active-duty combat vet who had just undergone surgery at the VA, and as a loyal IHG member, I felt completely disrespected and dismissed. My expectations were significantly higher, especially given the importance of rest and recovery in such circumstances. Furthermore, my dog has been deeply shaken by the experience and has not been himself since that traumatic night.
While Dawn did eventually refund the night’s stay, she refused to refund the $50 pet fee. This is particularly insulting, considering our dog was equally disturbed by the incessant noise and spent the night restless and anxious, just like us.
If you value comfort over corporate greed, pet-friendly staff, hospitality and understanding, I would stay away from...
Read moreI was looking for accommodations for 3 people and my service dog when flying out of Milwaukee. We chose an IHG hotel as rewards members. This hotel worked out very well and was close to the airport. I would recommend using a sound app on your phone if you're a light sleeper because its proximity to the airport can make it loud at night. There were also frequent sirens, maybe it's by a hospital or fire station too. We really appreciated the pet friendliness of this hotel. They offered our shiba inu dog bones and had a dedicated dog walking area with a path, grass and poop bag dispenser (though it was empty when we were there), along with a waste receptacle. The staff was very friendly and offered a very good selection of DVDs to use. The store in the lobby is open 24 hours, with alcohol available until 9. The living room area in our suite was nice, with a comfy recliner chair along with other seating options. We needed to use the pull out couch, but didn't find any sheets for it. We had to ask the front desk for a blanket and got their last one. There weren't any comforters available for either the king bed or the couch bed. My niece had to sleep without sheets. We went to use the kitchen and found barely any dishes. We finally figured out that they were sitting dirty in the dishwasher. It would have been nice for them to at least have been run through clean, if they weren't put away in the cabinet. I liked having a full kitchen at our disposal. Note that because of this, there's no room service or restaurant at the hotel. I have a personal complaint that the buttons on the lamps were hard to use. It was painful for me but I'm extra sensitive due to fibromyalgia. Our biggest complaint was the smell. The air freshener was VERY strong. We all tried to find where to unplug it but I guess it's a spray or pumped through the hotel. I thought I'd get used to it but I didn't. My brother and sister visited us and everyone commented on it. It gave me a headache after awhile. Again, I'm sensitive, but it bothered everyone and we couldn't really air out the room. I would stay at this hotel again but would hope these few complaints could get addressed. Overall, our stay was comfy, nice, and...
Read moreI had a scary experience at the Candlewood in Oak Creek. A little after midnight, I woke up to an unsettling noise. Someone was attempting to enter my room. I had remembered to put the safety bolt into place before going to sleep; so, fortunately, the person was not able to enter my room. However, it was very scary that this person, whoever they were, had a key card that allow them access to my room. I heard the door open, then hit the safety bolt. A male voice called out “front desk,” then the door closed. Obviously, I was very spooked. I am a female traveling alone, so I am wondering if someone saw me and targeted me, then somehow managed to get a key card that allowed them access to my room. I did not feel safe, and got very poor sleep for the rest of the night, so I checked out of the hotel in the morning and found another hotel for the remainder of my stay in town. The room itself was a bit dirty, there was hair from a previous guest in the shower, there was no toilet paper on the roll, and there were weird black marks in the tub. I have attempted to submit this review to their website multiple times, but each time they are preventing it from being posted. My first attempt was flagged for “legally sensitive content” and not allowed to be posted. Nothing about this is legally sensitive content. This is a reminder to take proper safety precautions when traveling, especially when traveling alone. And also a reminder to hotels to be diligent with security. My third attempt was flagged for “inappropriate media.” Nothing about this review is inappropriate; what’s an appropriate is that this incident happened in the first place, and that they are preventing this review from being posted on...
