American Mattress — Hotel in Oak Park

I went in and worked with Robert who asked me the top dollar I was prepared to spend($1500). We went around briefly-I had an idea of what I wanted. I picked out a mattress for $699.00 plus an additional $200 for the box spring, plus $50 for delivery and $69 for this mattress cover that’s probably worth $20 if you’re feeling generous but you had to buy it if you wanted a replacement in the next 4 months.

I got a call last evening to say the mattress I paid for wouldn’t be available till May 15th but they had a better one-a Sealy-that was a $1500 value and I could have that one on time so, early this morning 2 men delivered the Sealy and the box spring and took my ancient mattress away.

The Sealy is as hard as a rock and it’s 10 inches high which means my existing sheets won’t fit.

I called to ask about the crappy quality of the mattress cover-like-is this what I paid $69 for?!? And to ask for an invoice to get more information about this Sealy. The guy blurted out that the Sealy was $699, so all of a sudden, it sounded like a scam, no? Guy number 2 said I could have the floor model today-so shouldn’t that come discounted?

I was all set to tell my friends because they offer a $100 off reward to new customers but now it’s feeling very scammy and I’ll be sleeping on the couch tonight and telling ALL my friends a completely...

We have been in need of a new mattress for a while, we shopped around in a few other stores, but were so glad we ended up here!

Frank was so helpful, he wasn’t just friendly and personable but so professional (my husband and I both have background with retail management so customer service makes a difference in our shopping experiences). He knew the sales dance between giving us space and trying out/laying on the mattresses (not hovering beside the mattress or at the foot of the bed as we’re laying on it, like another store had done— not that it mattered at the moment but in retrospect it made us more comfortable).

He helped us figure out what we liked and then proceeded to help us find something that was within the price range we were willing to spend. There was guidance on policies, just in case, so we walked with our purchase feeling at ease and well-informed.

As far as delivery and set up, everything was just as explained and better. We waited a few days to get the mattress delivered so that it worked with our schedule. They got here a few minutes within the timeframe and we’re in and out in 15-20 minutes at most! They set up the adjustable base, disposed of the old mattress and voila we have a new bed!

We’re so excited to try our new mattress and happy...

UPDATE: I stand by the original post of receiving great customer service. This review is now about the quality of the mattress. After paying $$$ for a new mattress, the same issue occurred with the sinking of the mattress, even after following the recommendations from Jim, which included rotating the mattress every week or as often as possible to ensure even wear and tear. Two months after receiving the mattress, I noticed the sagging, dipping, and softness even though I purchased a firm mattress. I am no longer going to use a mattress store but looking at another company as I have spent over $6,000 at this location to purchase two mattresses and the difference in cost for the exchanged mattress. Customer service is great, but quality could be better!
